No. 20 Colorado beats Oregon State 64-58

Struggling to get on track offensively, No. 20 Colorado instead leaned on its defense and scored just enough to come out on top.

Josh Scott, Askia Booker and Jaron Hopkins all had 13 points, and the Buffaloes hung on to beat Oregon State 64-58 on Thursday night in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.

Arizona coach Sean Miller likens the top-ranked Wildcats' size and power to a running team in football: The longer an opponent plays against it, the more it wears down.

The Washington Huskies found out just what he means.

Nick Johnson scored 24 points, Aaron Gordon had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Arizona pulled away late for a 71-62 victory Saturday.

Colorado hands No. 10 Oregon its first loss

Arizona (16-0) withstands late UCLA run to stay perfect

Arizona took its lumps against UCLA last season, losing three times to its Pac-12 rival. Those defeats stuck in the minds of the Wildcats, especially when they let a commanding lead slip away in the latest matchup.

Nick Johnson scored 22 points and the top-ranked Wildcats withstood UCLA's late 15-1 run to beat the Bruins 79-75 Thursday night, equaling the best start in school history at 16-0.

For all of Arizona's decorated basketball history, the 2013-14 Wildcats have done something none of their predecessors accomplished.

C.J. Wilcox drains seven 3s as Washington upsets No. 15 Colorado

Washington coach Lorenzo Romar has seen this before from C.J. Wilcox. One 3-pointer starts to drop, then another and suddenly Wilcox is hitting everything.

Washington's sharpshooting guard put on another display Sunday that ended the Huskies' lengthy losing streak against ranked opponents.

"When he gets in a zone he's pretty special that way," Romar said.

Wilcox set career highs with seven 3-pointers and 31 points, including 21 in the second half, and Washington ran away from No. 15 Colorado for a 71-54 victory. Wilcox topped his previous high of 30 points set earlier this season against Boston College.

Stanford gives No. 17 Oregon its third straight loss

In the hours that followed Stanford's nine-point loss to Oregon State on Thursday, Anthony Brown looked his teammates in the eye and vowed to be better than his 1-for-10 shooting performance.

It took the junior guard one game to live up to his words.

Brown scored a career-high 24 points and the Cardinal held on to send No. 17 Oregon to its third straight loss, 82-80 on Sunday.

    Spencer Dinwiddie has torn ACL

Colorado junior guard Spencer Dinwiddie tore his ACL on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season.

During Sunday's loss to Washington, Dinwiddie crumpled to the court after taking an awkward step on a fast break and his left knee buckled.

He was on the court for a few minutes while trainers and coach Tad Boyle came to his side. Dinwiddie was helped to his feet but had to be assisted off the court with his arms around teammates.

No. 1 Arizona relentless in routing rival Arizona State

Arizona raced out to a big lead and did not back off, hitting the accelerator instead.

No way were the Wildcats going to let their biggest rival get even a sniff of a comeback.

Top-ranked Arizona raced out to a big early lead and extended it with a strong start to the second half, rolling past rival Arizona State in a 91-68 rout Thursday night.

Norman Powell gets hot to help No. 25 UCLA tip No. 21 Colorado

While many of his UCLA teammates struggled with their shooting touch, Norman Powell had little problem getting his shots to fall.

Powell matched his season high with 19 points, and No. 25 UCLA pulled away in the second half to beat No. 21 Colorado 69-56 on Thursday night, handing the short-handed Buffaloes their first home loss of the season.

Jordan Loveridge helps Utah surprise No. 25 UCLA

Close games have not been friendly to Utah in Pac-12 play this season. This time, though, the Utes wrote a new ending to a familiar script.

Brandon Taylor and Delon Wright combined to hit three of four free throws in the final 22 seconds and Kyle Anderson committed a costly turnover in the final seconds to help Utah surprise No. 25 UCLA 74-69 on Saturday.

No. 1 Arizona handles Colorado to remain unbeaten

The McKale Center crowd buzzed in the minutes before the opening tip, more like a postseason game than another conference game.

With support like that, it's not hard for top-ranked Arizona to get off to a fast start.

Charged by the mojo created inside one of college basketball's best home-court advantages, the Wildcats raced out to a big lead and held on down the stretch to remain unbeaten with a 69-57 win over Colorado on Thursday night.

Despite off night, Wildcats beat Utes for school-record 20th win

Aaron Gordon went on wild, fruitless drives to the basket, repeatedly shook his head in frustration and shot a free throw that had a better chance of bouncing off the floor into the basket.

The talented freshman never stopped hustling, though, and came through with some of the biggest plays of the night.

Gordon overcame a difficult night on the offensive end with his relentlessness, providing top-ranked Arizona with a huge boost down the stretch of a 65-56 victory over Utah Sunday night that extended the Wildcats' winning streak to a school-record 20 games.

Nick Johnson, No. 1 Arizona rally past Stanford in final minute

For nearly nine minutes, Arizona made defensive stop after stop. In that critical sequence, the top-ranked Wildcats held Stanford scoreless and helped preserve their perfect start to the season.

This confident, unbeaten group believes it should be doing that all game. For Arizona, three straight defensive stops is called a "kill."

Nick Johnson kept Arizona's unblemished record going for another game, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with 51 seconds remaining and two free throws with 5.8 seconds left as Arizona survived for a 60-57 victory Wednesday night for its school-record 21st straight win.

Justin Cobbs' last-second shot lifts Cal to upset of No. 1 Arizona

Every time Arizona had been challenged this season, the Wildcats survived by making big plays and big shots in the closing moments of big games.

They finally found out what it feels like to be on other end of a celebration.

Justin Cobbs hit a step-back jumper with 0.9 seconds left, and California stunned No. 1 Arizona 60-58 on Saturday night to hand the Wildcats their first loss of the season.

    Brandon Ashley out for season

Top-ranked Arizona will be without starting forward Brandon Ashley for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

Ashley, who was averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, suffered the injury three minutes into Saturday night's loss to California when he landed awkwardly after rebounding his own missed shot. He returned to the bench and was in a walking boot and on crutches in the second half.

"Last night, early in our Cal game, Brandon Ashley suffered a foot injury that will end his season," Arizona coach Sean Miller said in a statement. "While we're all disappointed, we are also aware that Brandon needs our support and positive energy surrounding him. ... This adversity will ultimately make Brandon and our team stronger moving forward."

No. 2 Arizona holds off Oregon, bouncing back from first loss

Arizona's offense was disjointed, the shots weren't falling, the free throws clanging one after another.

Playing without injured forward Brandon Ashley for the first time, the second-ranked Wildcats looked out of sorts on the offensive end, leaving them in jeopardy of their first losing streak of the season.

Good thing they know how to play defense, particularly when the game is on the line.

Digging in over the closing minutes, Arizona overcame a rough shooting night to win in their first game without Ashley, grinding out a 67-65 victory over Oregon on Thursday night.
