    LA Galaxy win 2-1

Camilo netted his MLS-best 13th goal of the season Saturday night, but the shorthanded LA Galaxy relied on youth to overcome an early deficit and claim a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Jose Villarreal and Gyasi Zardes, paired up front as captain Robbie Keane sat out with an ailing hip, scored goals as the Galaxy dictated terms from start to finish in front of 20,093 at the StubHub Center.

Villarreal scored a 29th-minute equalizer despite Vancouver's protestations for an offside call, and Zardes tallied the winner in the 57th minute, tracking down a long ball, beating a defender, then firing past Vancouver goalkeeper Brad Knighton at the near post.

OPTA Chalkboard: Galaxy control things from start to finish

LA (10-8-3), which had fallen to sixth in the Western Conference with Colorado's draw against Seattle earlier Saturday, vaulted into third place, four points behind Real Salt Lake and one in back of Portland. Vancouver, which was outshot, 22-4, dropped to 9-6-5.

Hector Jimenez nearly gave the Galaxy an edge twice in the first 10 minutes. Brad Rusin cleared his header, from a Villarreal cross, off the goal line in the sixth minute; the winger's dipping shot from outside the box caromed off the crossbar three minutes later.

Camilo, with his ninth goal in the last eight games, struck in the 19th minute on the Whitecaps' only chance of the first half. Lee Young-Pyo, on the right wing at midfield, sent a sharp diagonal cross toward the middle. Russell Teibert got a piece of it with his head, redirecting it beyond LA's backline and into space. Camilo took it alone to the box and slotted past Carlo Cudicini.

The Galaxy were even 10 minutes later. Gonzalez headed Juninho's free kick into the goalmouth, it barely cleared forward Zardes' head, and Villarreal poked it home. Linesman Jeremy Hanson flagged LA offside - Villarreal would have been offside if Zardes had made contact with the ball - but referee Chris Penso stuck to his original correct ruling, signaling the goal for LA.

Zardes scored the winner 12 minutes into the second half. A long ball from Todd Dunivant found the rookie streaking behind the Whitecaps' defense, and he caught up with the ball at the left byline. Zardes poked it past Rusin, stepped around the defender as he tumbled, then beat Knighton at the near post, getting off his shot just as Johnny Leveron arrived to pressure him.

Cudicini made a foot save on Kenny Miller in the 73rd minute, and defender A.J. DeLaGarza dispossessed Jordan Harvey in the Galaxy box in the 86th, the only second-half chances the Whitecaps created.

Vancouver is home next weekend against Philadelphia, and LA visits Colorado.

Panamanian 'keeper Jaime Penedo set to sign with LA Galaxy
    [IMG]

He was one of the stars of the Gold Cup. Now it looks like he's about to get his chance to star in MLS.

Multiple outlets in Central America, as well as Spanish-language press in the States agree that Panamanian goalkeeper Jaime Penedo is set to put pen to paper with the LA Galaxy.

    LA Galaxy ink Omar Gonzalez
to historic multi-year Designated Player contract

The LA Galaxy made some history and secured a huge piece of their future on Thursday, signing defender Omar Gonzalez to a new multi-year contract that both keeps him in Los Angeles for the near future and makes him the first American defender to sign a Designated Player contract in league history.

Gonzalez, 24, has emerged as one the best central defenders in MLS since his rookie season in 2009, anchoring the Galaxy’s back line en route to two MLS Cups, and has a promising chance to feature for the US national team during the World Cup next summer in Brazil.

“To be the first Galaxy and US defender to be named as a Designated Player is a great honor for me,” Gonzalez said in a statement. “The Galaxy are the premier club in MLS and I’m looking forward to growing as a professional in LA while working towards winning a third consecutive MLS Cup.”

LA Galaxy beats Real Salt Lake

Robbie Keane scored a hat trick as the LA Galaxy tightened the fierce race for Western Conference playoff spots, rallying from a second-half deficit for a 4-2 victory in a sizzling encounter with visiting Real Salt Lake.

Keane scored in the 56th, 67th and 86th minutes, giving him 10 goals this season, and Omar Gonzalez headed home a Landon Donovan corner kick in the 75th as LA (11-9-4) climbed within four points of first-place RSL.

The Utahns (12-8-5), who have won just once in their last five matches, watched their lead in the West trimmed to just two points over Colorado.

Joao Plata gave RSL a lead eight minutes into the second half, but the Galaxy, who had far more control of the game, were dominant from that point, claiming their third straight home victory and extending their unbeaten streak at the StubHub Center to six games.

Panamanian international and recent signing Jaime Penedo got the start in the nets for the Galaxy, with Brian Rowe as his backup and Carlo Cudicini out of the 18.

Real Salt Lake returned to its traditional 4-4-2 with a diamond midfield after using a 4-3-3 in last week's win over Houston.

The Galaxy attacked in waves in the first half, often through a counterattack, but created few real chances. When they did, Tony Beltran, Nat Borchers or Chris Wingert came up with big stops -- Beltran twice in the box on Keane, in the 32nd and 44th minutes -- or goalkeeper Nick Rimando did the job.

RSL moved the ball well in the middle third but struggled to penetrate deeper until after the break, when Alvaro Saborio challenged Penedo with a blast to the upper-right corner. Penedo parried it, then handled a Morales blast from the right byline moments later.

Plata struck in the 53rd minute, slotting past Penedo from a superb touch by Ned Grabavoy. Borchers collected an LA clearance near midfield and quickly played it forward to Grabavoy just above the Galaxy box. Grabavoy sliced it to the streaking Plata, who got behind Gonzalez to finish.

Keane evened the score three minutes later. He took a long ball from Hector Jimenez at the top of the box, juked defender Carlos Salcedo the ground, cut the ball back to his right foot and fired inside the right post.

Donovan nearly added a second for LA two minutes later, taking a through ball from Keane, beating Nick Rimando at the 6-yard box, then chipping toward a nearly open net. Chris Wingert chested the ball on the goal line, keeping it out of the net, and it was cleared.

Keane's winner was a beauty. Juninho played the ball into space up the right wing, and Franklin, who had come on moments earlier, ran onto it and crossed to the near post. Keane volleyed home from just above the 6-yard box.

Gonzalez scored in the 75th minute, nodding in Donovan's corner kick from the left, then started his celebration in Borchers' face. Borchers was wrapped around Gonzalez through the play.

Keane wrapped up his hat trick after Franklin played a ball over the RSL backline. The Irish striker raced beyond Borchers and Salcedo and lifted the ball over an onrushing Rimando into the net.

Todd Dunivant nearly gave LA a fifth goal a couple of minutes later, but he was cleared off the line by Abdoulie Mansally, and Robbie Findley netted a second goal for RSL with the game's final touch.

RSL finishes its two-game trek Wednesday at Portland and then returns to Utah for next Saturday's clash with Columbus. The Galaxy play their CONCACAF Champions League group-stage opener Tuesday at StubHub against Costa Rica's Cartagines and return to league action next Saturday at Vancouver.

    Galaxy wins 1-0

An early goal from Landon Donovan was enough Saturday night, as the LA Galaxy defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 at BC Place in front a sold out crowd of 21,000.

Donovan opened the scoring in the third minute with a shot into the top left side of goal from outside the area. Matt Watson gave up the ball in his own half before Johnny Leveron inadvertently teed up Donovan by poking the ball away from Robbie Keane.

A world-class save from Jaime Penedo in the 82nd minute was just as crucial as Donovan's goal. The Panamanian recovered after making a dive for a Kekuta Manneh shot that hit the post to spring and deny the rebound chance from Jordan Harvey.

The win pushed the Galaxy to second place in the tight Western Conference with 40 points while dropping the Whitecaps, on 36 points, to sixth.

Gershon Koffie came inches away in the 10th minute, dispossessing Landon Donovan just past the halfway circle before unleashing a stinging, swerving effort that just went wide of the top right corner.

Nigel Reo-Coker forced Penedo into a stop with a long-range effort in first half-stoppage time. The Englishman made a surging run from midfield before Penedo pushed the shot wide for a corner.

Kenny Miller missed a gilt-edged opportunity in the 53rd minute, scuffing a left-footed effort well wide from inside the area. The Scotsman shanked his shot after Darren Mattocks whiffed on a Russell Teibert pass across the box.

Jordan Harvey broke through clean on goal in the 66th minute, but attempted to pass it to Darren Mattocks rather than shoot. The Galaxy managed to react well and break up the pass before the play eventually came to nothing.

Vancouver also appealed for several handballs in the match, including on a play deep into second-half stoppage time in which Juninho handled the ball in the box following a teammate's clearance. But given the range, referee Armando Villareal appeared to view the play as ball to hand rather than hand to ball - despite the screams of 21,000 with a contrary view of the play.

Moments later, Keane missed a shot from close range, firing a shot into the side netting, before Villareal blew the game's final whistle.

The Galaxy, improving to 12-9-4, are back at home next weekend, as they host the San Jose Earthquakes at the StubHub Center on Saturday. The Whitecaps, dropping to 10-9-6, play host to Chivas USA next Sunday at BC Place.

Landon Donovan's desire to stay with LA Galaxy makes lucrative renewal a no-brainer
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – Once the LA Galaxy and Landon Donovan started talking in earnest, it didn't take much time to reach an agreement on the multiyear contract that was announced Wednesday.

Donovan, 31, had options in Europe and in Mexico, but he always wanted to stay with the Galaxy, and they made that simple for him.

“I never made decisions for money, and I think I'm a much happier person because of it,” Donovan said after his news conference Wednesday afternoon at the StubHub Center. “At the same time, you do want to be valued and respected, so it was important for me in this process to be treated fair financially.

“The Galaxy made it clear early on that they wanted a type of deal that would give me the opportunity to be the highest-paid player in the league, if I perform well. I think that was important to me, and I think that was fair, so we came to a good agreement.”

    Galaxy wins

The LA Galaxy took a another lead on Saturday night against the San Jose Earthquakes. This time they didn't give it away.

Robbie Keane set up Landon Donovan's 132nd MLS regular-season goal, converted a penalty kick, and then scored on a volley as LA dominated their California Clasico rivals, 3-0, on a muggy evening at the sold-out StubHub Center.

Donovan, who has five goals in four league games since returning from the CONCACAF Gold Cup, moved within two goals of Jeff Cunningham's all-time league record with his eighth MLS tally this season.

Keane has 12 goals this season and seven in the past five games, including a pair in the CONCACAF Champions League victory over Cartagines a week and a half ago.

The Galaxy (13-9-4) solidified their hold on 2nd place in the Western Conference, keeping pace five points behind Real Salt Lake and pulling three points clear of third-place Seattle. San Jose (9-11-7) is eighth in the West, five points out of fifth place for the final playoff spot in the West.

LA made just one change from their lineup in last week's win over Vancouver, with Sean Franklin returning to the right side of midfield in place of Hector Jimenez.

Suspension deprived the Earthquakes of midfielder Rafael Baca and defenders Victor Bernardez and Justin Morrow, and Shea Salinas wasn't 100 percent, so interim manager Mark Watson fielded a 4-1-4-1 formation for the first time. Jason Hernandez replaced Bernardez in central defense, with Sam Cronin in the holding midfield slot, Chris Wondolowski and Alan Gordon in front of Cronin, and Steven Lenhart -- starting with Wondolowski and Gordon for just the second time this year -- as the lone forward.

The Earthquakes had rallied from two-goal deficits to beat LA in three of their past four regular-season meetings, including a July 29 stunner at Stanford University, but they created little against a Galaxy defense that has posted three successive shutouts, including the Cartagines win.

LA goalkeeper Jaime Penedo easily handled San Jose's best chance, parrying Wondolowski's volley from a corner kick in the 10th minute. The Quakes nearly scored on an Omar Gonzalez own goal from a corner kick in the 77th minute, but Penedo snagged the ball on the goal line.

The Galaxy went ahead in the 26th minute, after Gonzalez headed away a San Jose free kick into LA's box and Marcelo Sarvas fed Keane at midfield. The Irishman chipped the ball over the Quakes' backline as Donovan streaked into open space, pushed the ball to the right, past goalkeeper Jon Busch, and fired into an open net.

Keane got his team's second in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick, after Steven Beitashour fouled Gyasi Zardes, and then made it 3-0 in the 67th, volleying a Zardes cross past Busch on the bounce.

The Irishman nearly scored on four other occasions; the best were a shot across the goalmouth and past the right post in the 68th minute and a one-on-one blast that Busch parried 10 minutes later.

Galaxy right back A.J. DeLaGarza exited in the 83rd minute after Lenhart crashed into him on a San Jose corner kick. There was no immediate word on the injury.

The Galaxy is home next Saturday against Colorado. San Jose returns home against Philadelphia the following day.

Three Points: Ex-LA Galaxy man Edson Buddle makes LA pay in 1-0 loss

LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano's Three Points to LA's 1-0 defeat with the Colorado Rapids

VICENTE SANCHEZ AND EDSON BUDDLE MAKE THE GALAXY PAY

Last time it was Dillon Powers who hurt the LA Galaxy and this time it was former LA man Edson Buddle that beat his ex-club.

Despite the Galaxy controlling much of the possession throughout the match, Vicente Sanchez was repeatedly able to find space behind LA's back four and nearly found the back of the net himself with a shot in the 42nd minute that forced one of Brian Rowe's three saves on the night. However, Rowe was unable to stop the sequence in the 75th when Sanchez stripped defender Todd Dunivant and then played a pass to Buddle, who fired a shot from 22-yards out that sailed into the top corner of the net.

Although Buddle may have got on the scoresheet, Colorado was anchored by the play of goalkeeper Clint Irwin, who made six saves on the night in a dominant performance that gave him his 10th shutout of the season for the Rapids - tying a club record.

GALAXY YOUNG GUNS UNABLE TO BREAK THROUGH COMPACT DEFENSE

Missing four key players due to international duty, the LA Galaxy's young attack was unable to crack a solid Rapids defense that held on for a 1-0 victory.

Despite being held scoreless, LA forward Jack McBean nearly put LA up in the second minute only to see his close range shot saved by Clint Irwin. However, after that chance, the Galaxy attacked struggled to get in gear as a compact Colorado defense routinely found ways to stifle the Galaxy, even blocking five of their attempts at goal. On the night, LA's finest player was midfield workhorse Marcelo Sarvas, who forced his way into dangerous spaces in the attack and registered three shots on frame, each seriously testing Irwin.

There's no escaping the importance of LA's four international absences as LA's last goal not scored by Donovan, Keane or Gonzalez was on July 20th when Villarreal and Zardes scored in the Galaxy's 2-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In that span, the DP trio has scored all 11 goals that the team has scored in league play.

    HOME UNBEATEN RUN SNAPPED

The LA Galaxy have marched up the standings in recent weeks, but with their loss to Colorado, they saw their nine game home unbeaten run snapped.

LA's last home loss came on May 5 when they fell 1-0 to the Houston Dynamo in a rematch of the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cup Final. During that span, the Galaxy went an impressive 6-0-1 at home, only dropping points to Portland, and steadily pushed themselves into the chase for the MLS Supporters' Shield. The Galaxy still have four regular season matches remaining on the docket at StubHub Center where they are 9-2-2 this season.

However, before LA can think about getting back to winning ways at home, they'll have to travel across country and find a way to beat a tricky D.C. United team at RFK Stadium next week.

Late Goal by D.C. United Costs LA Galaxy Valuable Points Once Again

Landon Donovan called it the "same old story," and it's not a tale the LA Galaxy enjoys.

The defending MLS Cup champions took the lead twice Saturday afternoon at D.C. United, the second time in the 81st minute, and defensive errors again were costly as they dropped two more points in a disappointing 2-2 draw.

The result left them five points behind Seattle and four in back of Real Salt Lake in the Western Conference, and they could drop to 5th place before the night is over -- if Portland wins at Chivas USA and Colorado beats FC Dallas.

Robbie Keane struck early, but Omar Gonzalez's mistake enabled Chris Pontius to equalize just before halftime, and a poorly engineered offside trap let Kyle Porter nod home the decisive goal just three minutes after Michael Stephens provided a 2-1 lead.

"At the end of the game, we're positioned to have three points, and we need to do better in those situations," said Galaxy manager Bruce Arena, whose lost right back A.J. DeLaGarza to a dislocated left elbow near the start and Donovan to a lightly sprained left ankle at the end of the first half. "Give D.C. United credit. They played real hard for 90 minutes, and we had to battle real hard after positioning ourselves poorly at the end of the first half.

"I would call [Gonzalez's mistake] giving away a goal, but give Pontius credit as well for stripping Omar and finishing off the play. Then we got the second goal, which should be enough to give us three points, and we failed to keep them off the scoreboard at the end of the game. That's disappointing."

The Galaxy were clearly in charge until Pontius stripped Gonzalez of the ball a ways outside the LA box, raced one-on-one toward the goal, rounded LA goalkeeper Jaime Penedo and deposited it into an open net.

Arena was asked afterward if it was a "teaching moment" for Gonzalez.

"If it's a teaching moment, he failed. He got a bad grade," Arena replied. "He's experienced enough as a player now that he shouldn't be in that position."

Gonzalez said he was trying to change how the Galaxy were playing, and it backfired on him.

"I thought we were playing a lot of long ball at the time, and I wanted to start getting the ball on the ground and start playing it, but I picked the wrong time to do it," he said on LA's postgame telecast. "The ball came in, I was concentrating on the ball, and I didn't take a look at who was around me and didn't see him. That's the way it happened.

"Obviously, I need to not be so lackadaisical there."

Porter headed home Perry Kitchen's cross after the Galaxy attempted an offside trap. Leonardo was slow to move forward, keeping Porter onside. It was the 18th MLS goal LA has surrendered in the final 15 minutes and stoppage this season, and those goals have cost them 14 points.

"Eight minutes to go with a lead, and sort of the same old story," Donovan said. "We'll look at the tape and see what happened on the play, but we can't keep doing that."

    Bruce Arena:
LA Galaxy are MLS "guinea pigs"
after forming USL PRO side Galaxy II

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will serve as “guinea pigs” for the rest of MLS, head coach Bruce Arena said, by fielding a team this year in the USL PRO, and he fully expects the rest of the league to follow their lead.

The Galaxy on Wednesday officially announced their USL PRO side, Galaxy II, and Thursday unveiled the schedule, which begins March 22 against the Orange County-based LA Blues, a fourth-year team in the third-division league.

“I think it's great,” said Arena, who first revealed the plan last September, following LA's training session Thursday morning at the StubHub Center. “I think we've lacked the next step for our Academy players or players that are just outside the first team.

"We've had a bit of a black hole on our development, and this makes everything natural – a natural progression from young players to the U-18s to the USL team to the first team. For those that need all those steps, which is a majority of players, it's a real positive for us.”

LA Galaxy receive a “good training exercise” as they fall 2-1 to Pumas UNAM
    [IMG]

MEXICO CITY— The LA Galaxy acquired everything they needed during their trip down to Mexico, save for a result.

The Galaxy fell 2-1 to Liga MX side Pumas UNAM on Tuesday in a closed-door scrimmage at the Estadio Olímpico Universario in Mexico City. Pumas forward Ismael Sosa scored in both halves while Galaxy rookie center back Kyle Venter added one late for the visitors.

“I think that it was a good exercise for our team,” said Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena. “Obviously, the altitude was very challenging, but Pumas has a good team and this was a good training exercise.”

LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane returns to training after rehabbing from two Achilles' surgeries
    [IMG]

CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane is back on the field with the LA Galaxy after spending nearly all of the first three weeks in preseason camp wrapping up his rehabilitation following offseason surgeries on both Achilles' injuries.

He won't travel north to Fresno for Saturday's friendly with California Clasico rivals San Jose, but expects to see action when the Galaxy face UCLA on Wednesday and the White-Blue game against the club's USL PRO side the following weekend at StubHub Center.

“It's nice to be back 100 percent and feel like I was 10 years ago,” said Keane, who trained the past week with Galaxy II and played 30 minutes in the USL team's intrasquad game last weekend. “Everything's gone good so far. I feel great. It's nice to wake up in the morning without any pain, and it's just nice to come out training and train at the very start without having any pain.”

    Galaxy II Win Preseason Opener
[IMG]Bowen, Mendiola on target in victory against PDL's Fuego

LA Galaxy II News Release -- www.lagalaxy.com

    Thursday, February 13, 2014

FRESNO, Calif. – First game and a first win for LA Galaxy II.

Travis Bowen and Raul Mendiola scored while goalkeeper Cody Laurendi made five saves as the newly formed USL PRO side defeated the Fresno Fuego 2-1 on Saturday at Chukchansi Park in their inaugural match.

"It was a really good exercise for us," Onalfo told LAGalaxy.com. "Any time you put on the Galaxy jersey, you want to win. From that standpoint, I was pleased, but there were some good things and a few bad things, but it is preseason. We're just nine days into the preseason and this is all part of the process. There's a lot that we can build on as we move forward."

Galaxy II scored their first ever goal in the 11th minute when Bowen, the older brother of former Galaxy Homegrown Product Tristan, capitalized on a turnover by Fuego goalkeeper Beau Diaz and poked the loose ball into the net. Galaxy II continued to turn the screws on the PDL side as the half wore on, spearheaded by the influential play of LA Homegrown forward Jack McBean, who frequently tested the Fuego defenders.

Keane has two goals as MLS squad takes 3-0 victory

LA Galaxy News Release -- www.lagalaxy.com

CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane scored a pair of goals and assisted another as the LA Galaxy blanked their USLPRO affiliate club LA Galaxy II 3-0 at StubHub Center.

Just a week after returning to full training, the Galaxy captain scored twice in the first half and set up a goal for Samuel in the 69th minute to seal the win for the first team in the first annual White vs. Blue match.

Keane wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as he received a header from Leonardo and then launched a shot from over 40 yards that caught Galaxy II goalkeeper Cody Laurendi way out of position. The Irishman appeared far sharper than he did in LA’s scrimmage against UCLA on Wednesday as he pulled the strings as the Galaxy turned up the screws on their USL counterparts.

Robbie Rogers among four loaned to LA Galaxy II
for weekend action vs. Sacramento Republic

LA Galaxy winger Robbie Rogers will continue his long quest for match fitness in USL PRO, as the team announced Friday morning that Rogers was among four players loaned to LA Galaxy II for the team's game Sunday against Sacramento Republic FC (Sunday, 10:30 pm ET, streamed live on LAGalaxy.com).

It's been a tough road back to the field for the former US international, who came out of a brief early retirement last year to sign with the Galaxy. However, he was limited during the 2013 season as he attempted to get healthy and match fit, totaling 602 minutes over 11 regular-season appearances and notching just one assist.

LA Galaxy midfielder Stefan Ishizaki coming into his own

Stefan Ishizaki was brought to the LA Galaxy this offseason to add a little touch of class to a team that struggled in 2013 and in LA's 1-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC, he delivered.
After a frustrating first half that saw the two teams trade chances, Ishizaki provided the necessary spark for the Galaxy in the 47th minute.

Sent into space down the right by a Juninho long pass, Ishizaki brought down the ball perfectly before squaring up with ‘Caps defender Jay DeMerit and sending in a precise cross to Keane, who easily knocked it into the Whitecaps' net. With his role in creating the Galaxy's game-winner, the Swedish attacking midfielder has now tallied a goal and two assists in his last two matches for LA.

"Over the last few weeks, Stefan has been getting stronger and stronger physically. You can see that his fitness is getting better," said Keane. "We know technically how good he is and how good he is at linking up with me, which was the case on the goal. I moved into space and I knew that more likely than not, he was going to find me."

A far cry from the 3-0 victory over Chivas USA a week earlier, the chances were limited for the Galaxy on Saturday as they managed just three shots on goal while allowing four as Vancouver sought to pack the midfield against LA's diamond formation.

Ishizaki's own success came in part due to Vancouver's attempts to pressure Keane, which allowed the Swede space to drift into up top. When Ishizaki did find the ball during his 79 minutes on the pitch, he was a threat each time he went forward.

"They made it tough for us. They didn't give us a lot of time on the ball. We tried to play, but they made it hard," said Ishizaki. "We still created some good chances and probably should have finished a few of them, but in the second half, we came out flying and scored in the first few minutes. That's always a great sign."

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena was among those to praise Ishizaki after the win, but admitted that the team is still expecting even more from their dynamic Swede.

"A great play by Stefan on the goal. Taking the ball down and getting byDeMerit, whipping in a great cross to Robbie Keane. It was a great play," said Arena. "It was Stefan's best performance of the year. We got close to 80 minutes out of him. He looked a lot better. We think he can certainly continue to get better."

And Ishizaki, who admits that he's still coming to terms with the pace of MLS, agrees.

"As you play more games, you get more comfortable on the pitch. The more that I play with all my teammates, I get a better feel for them and they get a feel for me," said Ishizaki. "I'm still not 100 percent or on the top of my form yet, but it's getting better.

"For me it's just getting into better shape and being at my peak physically because I know what my soccer skills are like," he added. "I just need to get more fit and [play] more games...Hopefully I can do good stuff here."
