Aaron Gordon's 17 points lead No. 2 Arizona past Oregon State

Arizona coach Sean Miller rose from his seat every time Roberto Nelson touched the ball and yelled "Shooter!"

He could have been talking about his own team, too.

Playing with confidence at both ends, No. 2 Arizona found its shooting touch and hounded Nelson, the Pac-12's leading scorer, into a rough night to race past Oregon State 76-54 on Sunday.

    Brandon Ashley has surgery

Arizona sophomore forward Brandon Ashley underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a ligament in his right foot, the school announced.

The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Ashley suffered the season-ending injury early in Arizona's first loss of the season Feb. 1 at California. He was averaging 11.5 points and 5.8 rebounds in 22 games, all starts, for the Wildcats this season.

No. 4 Arizona slips past Utah in OT to escape with win

Strong defense has saved Arizona in several games this season. It was no different against a determined underdog in a tough environment on the road.

Gabe York and Nick Johnson each scored 15 points, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson added 13, and the fourth-ranked Wildcats escaped with a 67-63 overtime victory against Utah on Wednesday night.

Jordan Adams scores 28 as No. 23 UCLA cruises past Cal

UCLA is on a late-season roll and right in the mix for a Pac-12 championship, hoping to chase down an Arizona team that has shown its imperfections.

Jordan Adams scored 28 points, and the No. 23 Bruins returned to the national rankings with an impressive 86-66 victory against California on Wednesday night to keep pace in the conference title chase.

Aaron Gordon scores season-high 23 as Arizona beats Colorado

For a team that built its reputation on stifling defense, fourth-ranked Arizona sure showed some offensive prowess Saturday night.

The Wildcats routed the Buffaloes 88-61 for their first win in Boulder since 1973. They did it by holding Colorado without a bucket until 9:50 remained in the first half, then by shooting 84.6 percent in the second half.

Stanford upsets No. 23 UCLA behind Chasson Randle's 26 points

Chasson Randle and the Stanford Cardinal showed how much they have grown as a team since last month's blowout loss at UCLA.

Randle made a career-high seven 3-pointers and scored 26 points to help Stanford boost their case for an at-large NCAA tournament berth with an 83-74 victory over the 23rd-ranked Bruins on Saturday.

Arizona clinches Pac-12 title behind Aaron Gordon's double-double

If this was Aaron Gordon's final home game at Arizona, and it almost certainly was, then he went out in style.

And took the Pac-12 regular-season championship trophy with him.

Gordon, expected to turn pro after a one-and-done freshman season, scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds to help the No. 3 Wildcats clinch the conference title with a 79-66 victory over Stanford on Sunday night.

No. 3 Arizona pulls out win in tight finish with Oregon St.

Nick Johnson said the Oregon State crowd got into the game during the second half and affected his Arizona team.

    So he kept shooting.

"I felt pretty good shooting the ball over the past few games, so I just tried to stay with it. ... Especially in tough environments like this, I try to take over a little bit," Johnson said.

Johnson scored 25 points, and No. 3 Arizona beat Oregon State 74-69 on Wednesday night in a back-and-forth game that wasn't decided until the final minutes.

Ducks earn 7th straight win with upset of No. 3 Arizona

Oregon opened the regular season with a 13-game winning streak. They closed it with seven straight victories.

The Ducks may have stumbled in the middle, but reserve guard Jason Calliste says the Ducks still belong in the national conversation -- especially after a 64-57 win over No. 3 Arizona in the regular-season finale on Saturday.

No. 4 Arizona stifles Utah in Pac-12 tourney opener

T.J. McConnell laid out like a baserunner diving headfirst into a base. He missed the ball, but, after landing with a thud, jumped up and raced the other direction.

Aaron Gordon, who did get the steal because of McConnell's effort, flipped the ball ahead and Arizona's point guard ran under it, scoring an easy basket in transition.

The play, and countless others like it in a spirit-crushing rout over Utah, let the rest of the Pac-12 field -- and the country -- know that one of the nation's best defensive is in high gear for the postseason.

Playing with a feverish intensity from the opening tip, Arizona raced through the record book and overwhelmed the stunned Utes in a 71-39 rout on Thursday to match the most lopsided game in Pac-12 tournament history.

No. 4 Arizona runs away from Colorado in Pac-12 semifinals

Aaron Gordon slid across the lane, sprang off the floor and blocked Xavier Johnson's one-handed dunk at the top of its arc.

    No chance.

Now that one of the nation's best defenses is reaching its peak, it's hard to imagine anyone having much of a chance against No. 4 Arizona.

Arizona backed up a strong opening performance in the Pac-12 tournament with another defensive gem, turning a close game into a second straight rout, 63-43 over Colorado Friday night to earn a spot in the title game.

UCLA upsets No. 4 Arizona to win Pac-12 championship

UCLA went into the season with the uncertainty that comes with a new coach. The Bruins suffered their share of setbacks, a notable one just a week earlier.

Once the Pac-12 tournament got rolling, the Bruins took off.

Now, after trading body blows with one of the nation's best defensive teams, UCLA takes home a Pac-12 championship in its first season under Steve Alford.

Outlasting one of the best closing teams in basketball, UCLA knocked off No. 4 Arizona 75-71 in the conference tournament final on Saturday.

    Washington State fires Ken Bone

Ken Bone has been let go as coach at Washington State, the school announced Tuesday.

Bone, 55, has spent the past five seasons with the Cougars and will leave with an 80-86 mark. He had the unenviable task of following Tony Bennett, who took WSU to two NCAA tournament appearances in his three years in Pullman -- including the Sweet 16 in 2008 -- before leaving for Virginia.

Short-handed California beats Utah Valley in NIT

    - Playing without center Richard Solomon forced California coach Mike Montgomery to go to a smaller lineup.

The Golden Bears never missed a beat in their NIT opener against Utah Valley.

David Kravish had 14 points, 10 rebounds and matched his career high with five blocks, Jordan Mathews added 13 points off the bench and California beat the Wolverines 77-64 Wednesday night.

Elgin Cook's 23 points push Oregon past BYU in NCAA opener

This was one sweet homecoming for Elgin Cook. The rest of the Oregon Ducks made themselves at home, too.

Backed by a vocal group of family and friends, Cook scored a career-high 23 points to power the seventh-seeded Ducks to an 87-68 victory over No. 10 seed BYU in the NCAA tournament Thursday.

Chasson Randle, Cardinal make free throws after blowing 16-point lead

Stanford made the most of its first NCAA appearance since 2008, starting fast and finishing strong.

New Mexico made another hasty exit.

"We came out energetic and ready to go," guard Chasson Randle said after the Cardinal led almost start to finish and knocked off the seventh-seeded Lobos 58-53 on Friday. "We knew how big this game was. We definitely had enough confidence to finish out the game."

Top seed Arizona holds on vs. Weber State

Arizona opened the NCAA tournament with a victory, exactly what a No. 1 seed is supposed to do.

The way it happened, with that jittery start and ease-off-the-gas-pedal finish, the Wildcats will likely hear those upset picks even more now.

Anxious early and a bit too comfortable late, top-seeded Arizona pulled out a 69-59 win over Weber State in the West Regional on Friday, a victory that's unlikely to change predictions that the Wildcats will lose in the next round.

Jordan Adams, UCLA bounce Danny Manning-coached Tulsa

This is what UCLA is supposed to do in the NCAA tournament.

    Win.

Jordan Adams had 21 points and eight rebounds, and Norman Powell scored 15 in his hometown to lead the fourth-seeded Bruins to a 76-59 victory over 13th-seeded Tulsa on Friday night, spoiling the NCAA tournament head coaching debut of Danny Manning.

No. 10 seed Stanford knocks off 2-seed Kansas to slip into Sweet 16

Kansas knows all about Stanford now.

The Cardinal couldn't deny a slight at a news conference a day earlier fueled them just a bit before pulling their second -- and much bigger -- upset of the NCAA tournament.

Kansas freshmen Andrew Wiggins and Wayne Selden Jr. ducked their heads and giggled Saturday when asked about Chasson Randle, Stanford's leading scorer.

"We definitely saw that video," Randle said Sunday after the No. 10 seed Cardinal beat the second-seeded Jayhawks 60-57 to advance to the Sweet 16 in the South Regional.

UCLA defeats Stephen F. Austin to reach Sweet 16

UCLA is back in the Sweet 16 for the first time in six seasons, a big step in the right direction for a program whose tradition was tarnished in recent seasons.

The Bruins don't want to stop there.

"We've had a good overall season but our work isn't done," sophomore forward Kyle Anderson said Sunday after the Bruins beat Stephen F. Austin 77-60 reach the NCAA tournament regionals for the first time since 2008. "They don't hang Sweet 16s up in Pauley."
