I want to see what everybody thinks about Danny Ainge. I'm not looking for you to break down every trade he's made and say "oh that was a good trade" or "that trade didn't work out." But I want you to let me know what you think about him as a GM in general, and how he fits in Boston. Personally, I'm wondering whether or not if he's the right guy here at this time. I say that because of the following reasons: - We are supposedly rebuilding with youth, yet he still has some vets here. You CAN NOT do both rebuild with a huge youth movement and be a playoff team at the same time. I have thought all along, and still do, that needs/needed to make a decision on one or the other. He STILL, after 3 years, has not really moved up and we are all still very unsure about his direction. - Trades. Danny likes to deal. When you are rebuilding, you want a chemistry and no turmoil. He makes too many trades, and that messes with the chemistry. As of right now, of course they are all friendly with each other. Sure. But chemistry and "being cool" with someone is two totally different things. Paul Pierce is the ONLY player on this team that was here when Danny came into town. Even from 04-05, we only had 6 players from that roster finish on the Celtics roster for 05-06 (and one was traded after the season - Raef). - He is putting his friendship/loyalty with Doc in front of the betterness of the team. I even heard that ownership asked Ainge to fire Doc, and Ainge said he would quit if they made him to that. Doc Rivers is not a good in-game coach and he doesn't deal with young players all that well. How does that fit in Boston? Even if we HAD a stable rotation, Doc is not a guy to coach you to victories. We need a good coach on this team that will get the best out of all our players. Doc toys with their confidence so much it's not even funny. Now, those are my thoughts on Danny, and now you know why I am now skeptical on whether or not the is the right guy here. What are your thoughts?
As far as evaluating talent, he's the best out there. he hasn't always made the smartest financial decisions, such as signing brian scalabrine for five years. he's also made some questionable trades, like the first-- and second-- antoine trade. he could've gotten alot more in both trades. and I think he was the one that signed marky mark to the contract, although I remember he was hesitant, but something like wyc made him. the situation's kind of hazy. I also like his confidence he has in his players. I remember in a big al interview, jefferson said no one believed in him but danny.overall, I think he's done a pretty good job: B.

I tip my hat to him for doing so well with drafting and evaluating players. And yes, he's very confident in his players, but don't take that quality too far. Ainge is not a guy to ever say anything negative, and there is no need to. But still, Ainge can talk up his players all he wants but he knows the real weaknesses as well. He is also very good with the media, and I love that. He will never say anything bad about anything, he will always talk optimistically, and he will never give out ANY type of "inside info." But the other things worry me, like what I had in my opening post. And it's good to be optimistic, but if what you mean by "good job" is bringing in a lot of potential and getting a coach that won't exploit that potential, and 3 years later being back at square one - then yeah, good job. Quite frankly, I don't accept that.
hes done a pretty good job..hes very good at finding who's good and who isn't goodbesides keeping Doc Rivers as coach still..he deserves to stay
Well. What can you say, he's tried alot of things, not really working just yet. But Major props for actually trying some things. Seatle management dont reall do that much. I wish we had Ainge.

I'm not trying to put down Danny Ainge either, I'm just stating some concerns. But he's done a great job in the drafts. Stealing Gerald Green at 18 was unbelievable and totally unexpected, same with Gomes at 50. Rondo has turned out to be a lot better than people though he would, Delonte at 24 is very good value, Leon Powe at 49 is solid value, etc. Perk at in the late 20's. His drafting has been awesome.
