http://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-two-months Review of the GS5 on an Android fanboy site. They're critical of the user experience, the plastic case, the camera, fingerprint scanner, preinstalled bloatware apps, two app stores, etc. I was skeptical of the fingerprint reader on the 5s, but I've used it too many times to count and without it getting in the way. I own a GS4 and iPhone 5s. I use the GS4 very little.
It doesn't seem that much better than the 4s. I like my iPhone. It's well-built. But if you think it's as sexy as some of the new phones out right now, you're fooling yourself. It's a Toyota, while some of the new phones are Lexus.
http://www.gizmag.com/iphone-5s-vs-iphone-5c-vs-iphone-4s/29214/ Faster CPU, more memory, bigger screen, faster network, 1/3 lighter too.
Good for you. I said it is all about preference, which can include the iPhone. I still think that they are all more or less the same. I go on that site a lot. They're critical because it is their job. Different editors on the site like different phones, cause you know, options are a good thing. Some like the Nexus for its simplicity. Some like The M8 for the build quality and Sense. Some like the Moto X, because though the specs lag the rest, the user experience is perfect for them. Some, I'm sure, even like the S5. And this was the conclusion on the S5.
I think for the common user, the change from 4s to 5s is not greatly noticeable. I can read the statistics on it. Naturally, all computers are faster and have more memory with each evolution, but that doesn't mean it spectacularly changed. You seem a little defensive on the subject. I love my iPhone. But it's not as exciting as some of the other phones out there.
Well, here's the thing, the S5 has something like twice the CPU power. the 5s is on a dual core while the S5 is on a quad core. But.... the S5 is $200 while the 5s is only $100 and I'm a broke motha fucka right now.
If you can try them both out at the store, you might get a sense of the user experience. More CPU is great, but if you're using it to run XP, do you really care about the hardware specs?
I really don't honestly. I feel like we're getting too caught up with trying to release the next, latest, greatest thing every year. It's a phone. My S3 would probably still be working fine if I hadn't dropped it within the first week of ownership and spider-webbed the screen. I think I've had some issues with it ever since, but overall the phone is great. It's fast. It meets most of my needs. All I ever do on the thing is make calls, text, email, stream music, and check things like facebook and tapatalk. I feel like we're getting to the point where the cell phone companies can't really make the phones that much better, so they're just gouging us.
I rarely make voice calls anymore with the iPhone. I use it a lot when I'm away from work/home. Longer lasting batteries and faster browsing are a huge plus for me. http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9248360/Samsung_Galaxy_S5_first_month_s_sales_top_those_of_S4
I make voice calls often, and one thing I really don't like about my current phone is that the quality is very poor. I have a hard time hearing people. It sounds garbled.
my wife went from no smart phone to 5c I think (the one that has the same chip as the new Ipads) and she loves it. I think it comes down to preference. For me I have a Galaxy 3 and I used to think it was all about the customizations I could do on Android, then I started to realize that I dont really take advantage of all the features. I mainly use my phone as a phone, or when I need internet in a pinch. But for me I walk on all my breaks and lunch breaks at work, so I listen to a lot of podcasts (yes I know you can get podcasts on Android, but not much easier than just pressing refresh on subscriptions I have) so I find myself on my walks having to take my Galaxy, and my ipod touch which has my music an podcasts. Also when working out at the gym too. So carrying both around gets kinda annoying.
So I've never owned an iPod or an iPhone. Do you have to buy every bit of music or can you put free stuff on there as well?
Longer-lasting batteries? My iPhone battery sucks. From the time I unplug it (as soon as I wake up), it will be dead by like 9 or 10 pm. That's the biggest negative on iPhones for me. I'd be shocked if there were any popular phones with a shorter battery.
I personally can blow through the battery on my S3 very quickly if I'm actually surfing the web or using apps. Probably in a matter of four or five hours.
Yeah, I try to conserve the juice in the iPhone since it's a work phone. But yeah, that just shows you how quickly you can burn the batteries.
I turn the brightness down to about half and I get all day battery on the 5s. That's doing a lot of network stuff. Using the built in radio (phone, 4G) drains the battery much faster. I ripped about 450 CDs and iTunes Match made the all available via iCloud on all my devices. Not only are the songs available, but Apple replaced my older 128k bps versions with much better ones. Costs $25/year for Match. I paid $0 for the ripped songs, but originally paid for the CDs.
