Had the plus for two weeks now and absolutely love it. Haven't found a case I like yet, so trying to be careful. Biggest thing I've noticed is how amazing my pictures and videos look.[IMG]

Apple may be getting last laugh as Samsung earnings implode

For the past few years, Apple has seethed as it watched Samsung grab the buzz and market share lead with its Galaxy phones.

It wasn’t just losing that bothered Apple. It was getting spanked by a company Apple felt had essentially copied its best smartphone and tablet innovations. Apple launched a global patent litigation war against Samsung that produced a few victories but failed to fundamentally change the competitive dynamic.

Now, it turns out, Samsung appears to be in free fall. And it’s collapsing all on its own, without any help from Apple’s legal eagles.

Samsung has warned that its third-quarter earnings were going to be even worse than previously expected. In a press release, Samsung said revenues would fall by 20.5 percent and profits would drop 59.8 percent.

The projected profit of $3.8 billion is below analysts’ consensus estimate of $5.2 billion, according to Thomson Reuters. And, Reuters notes, it appears Samsung is headed for its first annual earnings drop since 2011.

Samsung is getting pummeled in China by lower-cost smartphone rivals. And the company got more bad news this week when the U.S. International Trade Commission voted to investigate allegations by Nvidia that some Samsung mobile gadgets may violate some of its graphics processing unit patents.

ong-rumored Apple TV app store could be reality soon

Long-rumored Apple TV app store could be reality soon
Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) is inching closer to unveiling an app store for its Apple TV set-top box, according to software developers interviewed by Global Equities Research.

An app download store has long been rumored for Apple TV but has not yet come to light. Global Equities analyst Trip Chowdhry thinks the Apple TV app store is close to becoming reality based on a handful of developers he has questioned.

All of the developers are expecting a new Apple TV player with its own app store soon, but they are split on the timing of the launch, he said in a research note Wednesday. Some say Apple will announce the new set-top box and app store on Oct. 16, when it is expected to show off new iPads and Mac computers. Others say it will happen in February, around the launch of the Apple Watch, he said.

"All these developers strongly believe that Apple has opened its Apple TV APIs (application programming interfaces) to some big developers including Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Twitter (NYSE:TWTR), CNBC and Disney (NYSE:DIS)," Chowdhry said. "These developers feel that Facebook and Twitter APIs may be built into (the) Apple TV Platform API, which if true, could jump-start a completely new TV experience called 'Social TV.'"

Today, television is a unidirectional broadcast medium, but Apple wants to combine broadcast with interactivity and sharing, Chowdhry said.

"Developers feel that as soon as Apple opens up its Apple TV APIs to all its developers, the following application categories will find immediate adoption: 1. Photo and video sharing applications, 2. Travel applications, 3. Business applications, 4. Games applications," he said.

One possibility for the next version of Apple TV is the ability to use an iPhone or Apple Watch as a remote control, he said.

"Currently there are about 20 million Apple TV devices (in use)," he said. "If Apple TV really opens up its APIs to the developers, it is conceivable that every household that has an iPhone will also have an Apple TV."
