I think with the recent increase in activity and members, being able to scroll through the recent activity pages from the front page (instead of just being able to see page 1) is a must.

I think it would help if team forums were more active. I mean....make it so that people can see new posts. I went to the Diamondbacks page and really the only posts there are from the bot that keeps you updated on each game.

We haven't really had much of a chance to improve the baseball forums. We will in time, hopefully sooner than later.

A lot of the team forums need mods, no doubt. If you look at an empty forum and at the dates of the game threads, there's no reason a game from 25 days ago should still be on the home page. Any new threads or bumped threads should be on the first page.

I mean at least show the new threads somewhere in the main forum index.

If it is, my bad. I just don't see it.

The thing is, that there aren't any new threads. We need more MLB members to start threads, and discuss in those forums.

I could moderate the Rockets or Heat or Sonics forums.

Just going through the site, I believe that its a great site as a whole, but the forum aspect just isn't as simple and accessible as I would like. This is no means a bashing, because I still love the merger. But some small things that I wouldn't mind changing:

    - In any individual forum, I would create some sort of seperation between threads and folders that lead to another forum (eg: in the off-topic forum, I'd be referring to something like the "Music" folder). This isn't really to make things easier to find, because the folders are already at the top of the page. It has more to do with the information that is given. After the thread title, the next columns describe the creator of the thread and the last poster in that thread. The problem is that, for the folders, you can't find out what thread it is referring to. If we could put the folders in some sort of seperate box, we could more accurately describe the recent activity in that folder to someone from the outside looking in (IMO, that info would be the thread title and last poster in that thread, as well as the date).

    - I know its like beating a dead horse, but I truly do believe the font is too small. And this isn't just about me being too lazy to customize it myself. IMO, the focus for any quality forum should be discussion. Now, for a newcomer just visiting this site for the first time, that really doesn't come across with the current font size-to-graphic size proportions. It doesn't send the right message.

    - I love the tabs at the top of the page, but I don't believe that its a good enough substitute for a home page for each sport/league. There should still be a page that lists each individual forum within that section of the site. The main reason is that, although the "Recent Discussion" page is helpful, it only directs users to parts of the site that have a lot of activity. That means the low-activity parts of the site get ignored and become abandoned. So for example, if we had a list of every subforum within the NBA section of the site, we could list the latest activity for each of those subforums and users would be more willing to browse those areas as they scan the entire page.

Those are just the main issues that I've noticed. Again, I hope this doesn't seem like an attack. But the one thing we should keep in mind that, despite the fact that vbulletin was limited and outdated, they still had a very simple and effective format for their forums. Obviously we can make this site much more well-rounded than any vbulletin site, but I don't think we should completely abandon some of their concepts.

You just have to get used to S2, and you'll begin to notice more and more of what it offers.

There already is "home pages" for every league on the site.

    NBA

    MLB

The standing pages serve as a home page type hub for each league, with links to the forums.

In addition, if you click on Forums up at the top, which takes you to this page, which is another way to go about navigating the site.

Ahh, thanks a lot man. I totally missed that page. I think it'd be helpful to add a "recent posts" thing next to each team forum, but that's more of a luxury than a necessity.

I still stick by my other two points, though. Not necessarily trying to come in here and change what you've all been used to, but I'm just trying to provide another perspective.

All solid suggestions. To piggie back off your idea and what was answered, I think we are going pages for each team.

This system is built from the ground up and is only a 3 month work in progress. It's by no means a finished product. You can see this long list of ideas, and if you read to the beginning the ideas are used and discussed.

We want everyone to know the ideas aren't ignored. I'm sure the guys who first came to the board can tell you we were something that looked like a word document with clickable links and team logos.

We have 3 full time programmers, but I'm told we are still short handed. We'll work as fast as we can, doing what we can (I can't program, but I'll do what I was signed up to do), to make this the top sports site around.

I'll be sure to flip through the rest of this thread so that I don't repeat others, Petey. And I don't mean to rush you guys either. Just a little brainstormin, more than anything.

btw, when I'm typing a post and press "Enter," why does it move down two lines?

I think that is part of the editor. There are other editors. We have already changed to this one as it's more efficent? Can someone correct me on that?

And I know you aren't trying to rush us. I know it's all excitement. We're all excited. [IMG]
