The buzzer was no match again for St. Bonaventure guard Marcus Posley. Neither was VCU's stifling defense Saturday.

Posley split two defenders and scooped in a 6-footer off the backboard at the buzzer to give the Bonnies a 73-71 victory over the injury-depleted No. 18 Rams.

La Salle coach John Giannini thought it was time a bounce went his team's way against VCU.

It did at the end of regulation Wednesday night, and when Jordan Price made a 3-pointer for his first points in nearly 13 minutes, and then No. 20 VCU failed to score, the Explorers had a break they needed in a 74-69 double-overtime victory.

In a game of big plays, Richmond's Terry Allen got the last one.

Allen had a key block and made two free throws in the closing seconds of the second overtime to help Richmond beat No. 22 Virginia Commonwealth 67-63 on Wednesday night.

Such a great info here . My friends, there is a big difference between playing the likes of Chattanooga and Furman in league play, or Saint Louis, VCU, Massachusetts, Dayton, St. Joe's and LaSalle in the A-10.

    No. 6 Virginia can't answer George Washington's second-half surge

Virginia coach Tony Bennett knew his sixth-ranked Cavaliers would have a tough time with George Washington.

The Colonials are a veteran team, their building was loud, and the weather was unseasonably warm for mid-November and made it uncomfortable for players on the court.

Even so, after the Cavaliers' 73-68 loss Monday, Bennett wouldn't hear of any excuses.

Allen has 34 points, 12 rebounds, Richmond beats No. 14 Cal

Richmond bounced back from a taxing loss to West Virginia -- at No. 14 California's expense.

Terry Allen had a career-high 34 points and matched his career best with 13 rebounds to help Richmond beat California 94-90 on Friday night in a Las Vegas Invitational consolation game.

Cavanaugh scores 18; No. 21 GW beats St Peter's 87-74

George Washington displayed an offensive balance Saturday that could help the Colonials keep their new status as a ranked team deep into the season.

Tyler Cavanaugh scored 18 points and was among four players in double figures and the No. 21 Colonials finished their home nonconference schedule unbeaten with an 87-74 victory over Saint Peter's.

No. 25 Dayton routs Massachusetts 93-63

Steve McElvene is the big man No. 25 Dayton didn't have the past two seasons. Big Steve is making a difference for a much deeper and more versatile team.

McElvene dominated the lane in the first half Wednesday night, scored 13 points, altered shots and helped Dayton roll to a 93-63 victory over Massachusetts.

La Salle slows it down in upset of No. 25 Dayton

John Giannini figured the only way his La Salle Explorerscould topple a ranked opponent was by turning back the clock.

Playing an offense inspired by an era of basketball long-since filed away, the Explorers held the ball on most possessions until the shot clock nearly expired. It worked like a charm.

The end result was a 61-57 win for La Salle over No. 25 ranked Dayton in an Atlantic 10 matchup Saturday.

Lewis leads tourney-tested VCU past Oregon State

New coach or not, the same old tournament-tested Virginia Commonwealth showed up for the NCAA tournament.

The experienced Rams showed why they were the favorites in their first-round game against seventh-seeded Oregon State, despite entering the game as a No. 10 seed.

With JeQuan Lewistotaling 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, VCU (25-10) -- led by first-year coach Will Wade -- held off a furious second-half charge to defeat the Beavers 75-67 on Friday.

Matthews helps No. 23 Rhode Island beat Dartmouth 84-60

A total of 364 days elapsed between games for No. 23 Rhode Island's E.C Matthews.

No. 21 Rhode Island tops Marist 107-65

Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley thought the key to his players making shots was the way they selected them.

"I'm not sure we took any bad shots," he said Monday night after the 21st-ranked Rams beat Marist 107-65 in the Hall of Fame Tipoff Tournament.
