It's funny, for all of their marketing expertise I don't think the front office really understood what Wes meant to so many fans. Lillard and Aldridge was always the focus.
Yes, I do know that. Check it out if you want, he was talking about $15 mil/year and "being a primary scorer" way before Free Agency started - before the blazers were allowed to say anything. He could be here on those terms and he knew it. That being said, I loved Wes while he was here, too.
An era of Blazer basketball over in a span of a week. It is literally Dame time now, he is the future. I will be sad about this for a while. I have had some memorable moments watching this group (Aldridge, Batum, Wes) and it is extremely, extremely sad to watch it end.
It's sad growing up with this group and it being gone. Gonna miss Wesleys three point celebrations. Dude had a new one every year. Made the three goggles a thing. Exited with the bow and arrow. Loved that one too. I think Wes was definitely the fan favorite. He brought it every night. Was so important in that series against Houston on Harden. Really showed his hustle and heart. When he went down, that was the destruction of this team. So in many ways he really was the heart. Fuck man this sucks
Dear Wes, Sad to see you go, but happy that you're getting rewarded with something the Blazers simply couldn't offer. Get well soon. I'll be in Kabul and not Moda when you come back to POR, but I'll be clapping. Brian
Good god that hit me in the feels. Damn onions. Nothing else needs to be said. Wes was the heart and soul of this team. There's going to be a big void left by him. I will -always- be a wes fan.
Have the Blazers ever had a better value Free Agent signing than Wesley Matthews?? He's #1 on my list. Better than Brian Grant or Przybilla! Will miss you, Wes!
Leaving 12M on the table (64-52) shows that he clearly knows a Sacramento dust storm when he sees one.
i think this pisses me off more than batum or aldridge or rolo. i get why allen didnt want to gamble on post injury after our history of gambling with injuries. but damnit i love me some wes matthews. I thought we had won his heart with the #withwes campaign but i guess he was never even given an offer to test loyalty. i wish him success in every aspect of his career except when he plays the blazers.
This one hurts the most. He was the heart and soul of our team. I hope he comes and rains down three and Olshey and PA for letting him walk. I thought with the wise decision (great) of letting Batum go, that it would make sense for the Blazers to make a run(albeit it futile) and LMA, and also a run at Wes. But not to even make him an offer or pick up the phone, what an insult to the one who made this entire team click. I am still trying to figure out why Paul Allen has gotten over the Jail Blazers era and is so Luxury Tax paranoid to spend the money to put a Championship Team on the Floor. Any back to Wes, Portland is going to regret the day that they let you walk. If anyone can come back from an Achilles Heel injury it is Iron Man. All the best to Wes.
Where's his thank you Blazers letter? I loved Wes. My favorite Blazer of the modern era but it was too big a gamble to give him a long contract
I feel that Wes is waiting until it's official, after he signs the contract. He still has his Blazers pic on Twitter, and hasn't said ANYTHING as of yet.
I know a long term contract is a risk, however we could always do what we did with Brandon Roy and amnesty him if the injury was to much for him to come back from.
I do not think the owners will let that one go especially with the new TV Contracts and the ungodly salaries that will be coming.
This Kat hasn't said shit to us, so I will just sweep him with Rolo and Aldridge. I guess he's okay in my book.
I wouldn't count out the Wes and Rolo fan letters yet. Wes hasnt said anything about anything. That just doesn't seem like their style.
