The Caps and BJ's have a lot of good young players that clearly will improve.

I simply disagree with the people who think the Caps didn't get better adding Williams and Oshie. They also have young players that will improve.
The BJ's added Saad, and also have young players that will clearly improve. Their issue this past season was crazy amounts of injuries.

Right this second I believe both are better than us on paper. Not by any huge amount, this is the NHL where parody reigns and every series is close, but to me if we don't add another forward I think we are short up front and would be behind the Caps and BJ's, and right there with the Pens and Isles.

We agree 100% Dis. That's how I view it with Klein also. Plus never a bad idea to deal high on a player like Klein.

Well that's what you do in any sport. You deal high when the player has the most value. You can scream trade Boyle a thousand times but what's his value?

Agreed Mess. I think it happens as well. Why have R shot Diaz and Mac and Klein unless a deal is coming.

    Agreed on the last part.

I think Fast will be here. AV/Gorton like him a lot, and someone else would be part of the package if needed. Fast will be on this team next season IMO.

It is unbelievable how screwed the Lightning are the next 2 years with the cap. Stamkos is a RFA next year. Welcome to 10 million a year Tampa. Kucherov is a RFA next year. Welcome to 6.5 million a year. 2 years from now Johnson and Palat are RFA's. Johnson might get 8 million. Palat 5 million. Hedman is a UFA. He will get 7 years, 7-8 million. Bishop is a UFA. They have a top goalie prospect. This is a deal I expect to happen soon. Tampa trading Bishop. They have to. The have absolutely no choice.

They are done. Period. If they wanted to keep most of those guys, they will have to trade first and second round picks and top prospects to get teams to take crappy contracts like Callahan, Flippula, Garrison and Carle.

The NHL cap is too low and is a joke. It is beyond parody, teams cannot even keep their core together. Do you notice a theme here dump? A ton of teams are f'd...it is way too common in this league. The cap is too low, and honestly I think it will start hurting the league because fans will get tired of their team having to get rid of core players year after year because the cap is too low and goes up 2 mill tops per season.

Mark my words...this cap will hurt the league. I am a cap fan in sports, but the cap cannot be so low that teams cannot keep their players even if they stay somewhat under control with the deals they give out.

So, with this analysis, the Rangers right now are
on the outside looking in on next year's
    playoff hopes?

Could be...who knows really. I would say we are a playoff team right now, maybe we finish 3rd in the Met.

A lot of time left to improve though, so let's have that discussion in a few weeks.

Boyle has 1 maybe 2 years of playing time left in his career. If the Rangers inform him that the upcoming year will be spent in Hartford, cap consequences or not, Boyle would be foolish to get in a standoff as the Rangers have already demonstrated they will take this route. The real cap killer was the unbelievably stupid Staal contract. I agree with you about the cap Chuck and think the Canadian team owners bear a lot of responsibility here.

Canadian team owners and just dumb cities for NHL teams are ruining it for everyone (Florida, Glendale, etc).

The cap is ridiculous and way too low. It will kill the league in a few years...that is my prediction. Teams cannot keep their core at all. Keep a small handful and the rest have to go even if you are smart with the cap.

And totally agree about the Staal contract. AAV wise it is a good deal for us, but on top of G and McD and Klein already locked up, that is too many dmen locked up for too much cap IMO.

And Boyle has a NMC, so he cannot be sent down without his approval...no shot of that.
