Great post from a poster on another board. 'This is factually incorrect. ROR was a UFA after that deal. Stepan RFA. Inadmissible in arb hearing, per CBA.'
he doesn't have to name a player on the reason why he wants what he wants..his agent however can put in his bid similar to the contract given to ROR
http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/538417 Here is something found....Stepan can not use ROR by name to compare himself to ROR, but he can still use the contract as a measuring stick for his own proposal. Either way you know his asking price will be similar to ROR. The Rangers will low ball their offer and the arbitrator will find a medium
It doesn't matter --- It's not just O'Reilly. Look at Brandon Saad....Also an RFA, 1 time over 20 goals, 1 time over 50 points just got 6/36 An arbitrator is going to skull fuk the Rangers if it goes that far
Saad and Stepan are good comparables. Stepan is no better than Saad. I have no issues giving him 6 million. Over 6, no. That's the line.
Yeah I mean lets say tomorrow the Rangers put 6 years and 36 million on the table as an offer. Does Stepan really turn that down?
Its not a good comparable to Stepan but the Blues just gave Tarasenko 8/60 There is no way you can keep a good team together with the current salary cap + these escalating contracts
Exactly my point. You can be 100% responsible with the cap and contracts and still be able to keep only 4 or 5 main core guys if you want a good enough deep team. The cap is too low and restrictive. It will hurt the game..mark my words. Fans will get turned off by it.
Unfortunately, economics and mainly the Canadian dollar vs the US dollar is a huge determining factor in the cap.
