I had received a summons (summon? somethin...) a while back and did the whole online registration thing. I had been hoping that since I was number 260 I wouldn't get called in tomorrow, but nope, I'm lucky I suppose. Any ideas on what I should expect? How to make the most of it? How long I should expect to be there (Washington County Courthouse)? Thanks.

I just got done a couple months ago. Had two days at multnomah county.

Nobody likes being at jury duty. A lot of people are dicks to the coordinators. Don't be like them.

I had to show up two days, both days I was let out around 12. Bring a book, your phone, tablet, whatever to keep yourself entertained. Usually they have tvs in the back on too. Sometimes they'll show price is right so it's not something horrendous

Bringing something to keep you entertained is very good advice, if you're not called at all, or if they have a lot of cases and it takes them all morning to call you, it can be excruciatingly boring without a book or movie or something.

If/when you get called, it TOTALLY depends on whether you want to actually be on a jury. I sat on a 4 day trial a few years ago and it was a miserable experience. It was boring, tedious, made me hate every party involved, took a week out of work and paid almost nothing -- really made me question the whole system (maybe a bit dramatic)... trials are nothing like in movies or TV.

IF you get called and you do not want to sit on a jury, the key is to talk as much as possible during Voir Dire -- that's when both lawyers will discuss high level details of the case to make sure that any potential jurors aren't biased in any way. Find excuses to say something as often as you can. If you want to sit on a jury, keep your mouth shut!

    Either way, good luck.

I have it in September, I'm not shaving come August and I'm not getting a haircut to look as grungy as possible. This will probably backfire and I'll be picked for sure. Regardless, I'm filling my MP3 player full of Dan Carlin Hardcore History podcasts to pass the time.

Back in the day it was different. I soent 2 weeks on jury duty from 8-5. You all sat in a big room and periodically they would call you for a trial. If you made the trial you sat in, if not it was back to the room. Luckily the Olympics were going on, so there was something to watch all day, AND my employer paid me while I was there along with the $10 I got from the county. That was in 88'

Yikes, number got called again but luckily I'm excused for a doctor's appointment. Only have a little over a week left, hopefully I can make it through without getting called in again.

I keep telling you suckers. Just ignore it. The more you give in, the more they will call you up. It's like a list of donors. The more you contribute, the more you move up on their list.

If you're dumb enough to show up...Look, if I could get out of the draft, you can create a little hoochy-koochy act yourself. This generation has it too easy. No imagination. Just tell the prosecutor something against the evil legal system and you will be out the door.

Where I live, the sheriff likes to chain people to stuff, then beat them up, and people defend it. Not a dude you want to get acquainted with.

Are you fucking kidding me? I just got called in for a fourth time tomorrow. What's the likelihood of them asking for proof If I call in saying I have a doctor's appointment again? They didn't seem to care that much before.
