Verify what I write here. From memory. Here's his WikiPedia page.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_Washington

Washington was an alderman in Chicago. He ran for mayor in the Democratic Party primaries against two white candidates, Richie Daley Jr (son of the longtime party machine mayor) and Jayne Byrne. Both Daley and Byrne ended up being mayor at some point, but not this time. In the primaries, the vote was split almost evenly and Washington ended up the nominee with 33.4% of the vote (or whatever, it was really close, a shade over 1/3).

In a city that hasn't elected a republican mayor in a century, and where democratic party mayors get elected with 70% of the vote or more, Washington won a squeaker of an election against a cannon fodder republican candidate, Bernard Epton.

Epton received 80%+ of the white vote. Washington a shade over 50% overall.

This is a liberal democratic party machine city in the 1980s (and still).

Who's really on the side of black people?

When you saw Washington on stage on TV, you saw the faces of black people who made up his administration on the stage behind him. More power to him.

My only gripe with the guy was that in his haste to give govt. contracts to black construction firms, he began construction on all the major expressways at the same time, causing traffic nightmares.

We need more men like him. May he rest in peace.

Who likes the patriot act? People who work for government. Or want more government.

No, the W administration did not hassle people who protested their activities.

And their DA, and Congressman. I suppose it is white privilege not to build a business there. I do wonder who the hell will though now that they have completely shunned the rule of law. Intimidated and shackled their police force, just about no law at all. Murders have tripled?!? Even Obama can't get and investor to risk starting a business to put all those dudes to work. The memory of the businesses burning will last, so will the vision of the police watching as they are torched. You need to let them demonstrate, you know.

Holy Crap! You grab onto any bull shit talking point that will give you a chance to whine! It is amazing to me watch someone actually do it.
However, I will admit that I am proud of my walk that I had the privilege to make. And I do know a couple Black guys that feel the same way having walked about the same track.

    Ron Paul. Rand Paul, too.

Russ Feingold was the only senator to vote against it.

Perhaps you are speaking of Grandmother. Mama allow herself to get knocked up by a Black guy strolling through the country. He was gone before he even change a dipper for little Barry. Not so smart.

What these guys need to remember is, none of the Oregon Democrats voted against the Patriot Act or it's renewal.

Greece's problem is that it's too conservative. It lets the rich cheat on their taxes, so it has no money. Look up Greek lackadaisical tax collection.

He beat Richard Daley's Chicago machine, then died of a "heart attack." Then the machine returned to power.

No Oregon Republicans did, either. As for the present, Republican Paul and Oregon's Democrat Wyden are the 2 main Senate stalwarts opposing the NSA.

Re-elect Wyden if you dislike the NSA spying on you. Beneath leaders Paul and Wyden in the next echelon, the remaining anti-NSA senators are only a handful. Bernie Sanders is one.

Typical. And you don't know anything about what white privilege means if you think what you just posted.

I stopped voting for Wyden. He voted for the disaster that is Medicare part D.

    Her, Koko is a her.

And as long as she stays on the nipple bandwagon she has nothing to worry about.
