    Jarron Jones, Drue Tranquill out

Notre Dame's defense is down two more starters for the rest of the season, as defensive lineman Jarron Jones and safety Drue Tranquill both suffered injuries in Saturday's loss to No. 24 Louisville that will keep them sidelined for several months, coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday.

Jones suffered a Lisfranc injury in his foot and will be out four to six months. Tranquill suffered a torn ACL that likely will keep him out for a similar time.

Kyle Brindza's late FG sends Notre Dame by LSU

Notre Dame and senior kicker Kyle Brindza got the finish they had missed too often the last half of the season. Beating a Southeastern Conference team in southern territory only made it that much sweeter.

Brindza hit a 32-yard field goal as time expired, and Notre Dame upset LSU 31-28 in a Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl shootout Tuesday.

Everett Golson, once on track to be the winningest quarterback in Notre Dame history, is instead joining the long list of Fighting Irish quarterbacks who sought success elsewhere.

Golson announced Thursday he will use his final season of eligibility at another school, ending an up-and-down career for the Irish that included a trip to the national championship game, a season lost to a suspension over academics and a competition this spring withMalik Zairefor the starter's job.

Backup DeShone Kizer rallies Irish over Cavaliers as Malik Zaire fractures ankle

Notre Dame keeps winning games and losing players. Whether the ninth-ranked Fighting Irish can keep it up will depend on whether their replacements keep putting forth golden efforts.

Quarterback DeShone Kizer came in for the injured Malik Zaire and threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Will Fuller with 12 seconds left Saturday as the No. 9 Irish beat Virginia 34-27.

C.J. Prosise scores 3 TDs as Fighting Irish take down Yellow Jackets

C.J. Prosise provided the flash for the Fighting Irish with three touchdowns and 198 yards rushing, including a 91-yard TD run that was the longest run in Notre Dame Stadium history, and the defense provided the grit.

A pair of touchdowns for 14th-ranked Georgia Tech from Justin Thomas to Patrick Skov in the final minute, the second coming after a recovered onside kick, brought some drama before No. 8 Notre Dame's Torii Hunter Jr. recovered a second onside kick to clinch the 30-22 victory Saturday.

No. 6 Notre Dame overcomes slow start to beat UMass

Notre Dame punter Tyler Newsome pinned back Massachusetts, and returner C.J. Sanders got the sixth-ranked Fighting Irish going.

After Newsome placed a 52-yard punt on the Massachusetts 1, the Fighting Irish defense held the Minutemen to a yard on three plays and Sanders answered with a 50-yard punt return that helped spark Notre Dame to the 62-27 victory Saturday.

Notre Dame holds off USC; Trojans AD Haden treated in locker room

Notre Dame showed the mental toughness against Southern California it was sorely lacking in an embarrassing 35-point loss last season.

The No. 14 Fighting Irish rallied for 17 points in the fourth quarter after blowing a two-touchdown lead, and took the lead on Corey Robinson's diving catch with 9:06 left in a 41-31 victory Saturday night.

DeShone Kizer's late TD pass helps Notre Dame escape No. 21 Temple

The biggest football game in Temple history was on the verge of turning into the Owls' greatest victory. DeShone Kizerrefused to let Temple make history at Notre Dame's expense.

Kizer hit Will Fuller with a 17-yard touchdown pass with 2:09 left in the game, KeiVarae Russell picked off a pass to end the last threat and No. 9 Notre Dame escaped with a 24-20 victory over No. 21 Temple on Saturday night.

Kizer throws for 5 TDs, No. 5 Notre Dame tops Pitt

Brian Kelly isn't ready to start politicking. The Notre Dame coach figures it's far too early to get caught up in the endless debate of "who's in, who's out" of the College Football Playoff.

Still, considering the way the Irish's offense is humming at the moment, he might want to get a speech ready just in case.

DeShone Kizer threw for five touchdowns and ran for another as Notre Dame (No. 5 CFP, No. 8 AP) bolstered its CFP resume with a relatively easy 42-30 win over Pitt.

No. 4 Irish beat Wake Forest; Josh Adams has 98-yard TD

Notre Dame made the most of its limited opportunities. Wake Forest didn't.

The Demon Deacons had 23 first downs to 15 for the Irish, 340 yards to 282 yards in total offense and had the ball for 11:36 longer than Notre Dame.

The Irish (No. 4 CFP, No. 6 AP) won 28-7 anyway, getting a 98-yard touchdown run from Josh Adams, scoring twice on two trips into the red zone and adding another TD on a 28-yard interception return byAndrew Trumbetti. The Demon Deacons were 1-of-4 in the red zone.

No. 4 Notre Dame survives 5 turnovers to beat Boston College at Fenway Park

Notre Dame made itself at home in Boston College territory.

Taking over Fenway Park for a far-flung home game, the Fighting Irish (No. 4 CFP, No. 5 AP) spent most of it on the BC side of the field, overcoming five turnovers to beat the Eagles 19-16 on Saturday night.

Brian Kelly agrees to 6-year deal through 2021 with Notre Dame

Notre Dame has agreed with coach Brian Kelly on a six-year contract through the 2021 season, the school announced Friday.

Kelly previously had been signed through 2017 but reworked his agreement with Notre Dame after guiding the Irish to a 10-3 record and a Fiesta Bowl appearance this past season. He is 55-23 in six seasons at Notre Dame and has reached bowl games every year with the Irish. Kelly, 54, has a career record of 226-80-3 in 25 years as a head coach, including 149 wins since 2001, more than all but two FBS coaches (Bob Stoops and Urban Meyer). - See more at: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/artic...h-notre-dame-393144.html#sthash.XaqEyc1f.dpuf

Notre Dame confirms transfer of TE Tyler Luatua

The reports of Tyler Luatua‘s departure from South Bend have proven accurate. The only thing now remaining is whether his landing spot is accurate as well.

Via Twitter Monday night, Notre Dame confirmed that Luatua (pictured, No. 13) will indeed transfer from Brian Kelly‘s Irish football program and continue his collegiate playing career elsewhere. Whether that will be at BYU, as has been reported, remains to be seen.

Ex-Notre Dame RB Greg Bryant hospitalized after shooting

Former five-star running back Greg Bryant is in critical condition at a West Palm Beach, Florida, hospital after he was shot in a car along with another man early Saturday morning.

Bryant originally went to Notre Dame and had transferred to UAB. He and the other man, Maurice Grover, were found in a car on the southbound lanes of Interstate 95.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Grover was the passenger in the car and he sustained minor injuries. Bryant was trauma transported to the hospital and the interstate was closed for approximately three hours after the shooting, which happened before 5 a.m. Police are also seeking witnesses to the shooting.

Why Notre Dame can already be eliminated from the playoff race

Notre Dame had what most would consider a successful season in 2015. The Irish won 10 games, and their only regular-season losses came in the last seconds to a pair of teams that finished No. 2 (Clemson) and No. 3 (Stanford) in the final polls. No. 4 Ohio State did hammer Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, causing the Irish to finish just outside the final AP Top 10.

Irish quarterback DeShone Kizer did not view that season quite as favorably.

“When you make the decision to play football for Notre Dame, you’re playing for national championships,” he said last week. “You’re not playing for conference titles, you’re not playing for bowl gifts, you’re playing for the opportunity to hang another banner in that historic tunnel that sits in the middle of God’s country.

Notre Dame boots Max Redfield, suspends Devin Butler

One day after the arrests of six Notre Dame football players, coach Brian Kelly kicked off senior safety Max Redfield and indefinitely suspended senior cornerback Devin Butler.

Redfield was one of five Notre Dame players were arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession after a traffic stop Friday night. Redfield and two other players in the car also face a misdemeanor charge for possession of an unlicensed handgun.

Butler was jailed early Saturday for resisting law enforcement and battery of an officer, both potential felonies.

Notre Dame, which will open the season Sept. 4 at Texas, opens the season at No. 9 in the Amway Coaches Poll and No. 10 in the AP poll.
