This sums up my feelings exactly. I like all of our other bigs more than Bennett, but if (BIG IF) Bennett gives us the ability to trade, say Davis, for a wing then picking him up might be a good thing. Or if Bennett himself becomes a good trade chip that would be nice. OR if Bennett could play SF that would be terrific. But I'd give all our other bigs minutes ahead of Bennett at the PF spot.

I think you missed my point.

I don't particularly want Bennett for many reasons. But, if Triano has seen something we have not, and Bennett is really motivated to work hard on both ends of the court, I think he has a body type and some fundamental skills that could allow him to see minutes at the SF position. I have no interest in him as a pure PF and do not personally believe that he is especially motivated at this time.

Philly could submit a bid to claim him at 4:59EST and he would be theirs. So Waivers related stuff is typically very mum.

I think I did partially missed the point.

I believe he possess nothing to make him a 3 other than that, I think we mostly agree though:wink:

How do his tools to play the 3 compare to Aminu's?

Not that it really means anything, but ESPN does have Bennett ranked ahead of several current Blazers (Harkless and Kaman) - http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/13725236/nba-nbarank-players-ranked-nos-251-300

What that being said, we know Miller will be let go, either Pressey or Frazier will be gone, so that leaves them with 1 to cut. I say it's between Alexander and Montero. When it's all said and done, Bennett will be a better NBA player than both those guys. I think it will end up being Montero.

The real question is - who will be better in 5 years - Vonleh, Bennett or Harkless - if all are given a chance to play? I think Bennett can be the best of those three.

Not well. Bennett is hefty, slow, & lazy.
In no way shape or form is he a 3.... although he does have the right height for a 3 (which makes him undersized at the 4).

I might be more interested in Bennett if if he were a former #1 at a position of need.

Again I say its more of a Alexander VS Bennett thing. We can't be concerned about being overloaded at this point, we aren't good enough to be overloaded, a bad team overloaded with decent prospects is a good problem to have. People gripe about draft position and busts and what not but if you take position taken out of it and look at what the player really is that's a baseline for Bennett IMO.

Kwame Brown 11 years played averaged 22mpg and 6pts and 5rpg not bad for a backup PF/C
Bargnani 9 years in the league 30pmg 15pts 5 rpg, not bad for a rotation guy
Michael Olowakandi 8 years in the league 26mpg 8ppg, 7rpg not bad for a rotational center (similar to Robin Lopez numbers)
Greg Oden doesn't count as a talent bust as his body broke down.

So if we pick Bennett up and plan on 2 years from now Vonleh and Bennett are battling for starter/6th man role and one is giving us 14 and 10 and the other 8 and 6... regardless of which is doing what then we have made a good decision. The plan is one or both of those guys to Surpass Ed Davis IMO.

I think we are in need at every position outside of Starting PG. All beyond that are basically unproven.

Or, if they like Alexander and Montero, I would not be shocked to see them cut Pressey and Frazier loose. The only way Pressey or Frazier see significant game minutes is if Dame or CJ goes down. If that happens they can pull in some available backup PG and ride the tank all the way home. Neither Frazier nor Pressey is the long term answer as long as they cannot shoot the three. Montero might be.

There is still some time before any decisions have to be made. Alexander and Montero better make the most of it.

why is everyone saying it'll be one of the super-cheap, potentially major upside lotto ticket end-of-bench guys who'll be cut if we get Bennett (either on the cheap or claiming him), instead of, I don't know, the 2nd-round pick who's had the opportunity to play the 3 for a couple of years for us and still will likely be buried on the bench?

It sure seems like the team has plans for Crabbe.

I wouldn't expect you to ever admit to being so heinously wrong about Leonard. Move along, nothing to see here.

It does. Although at this point I'm more interested in seeing what Montero can do (he's the SG and Alexander is the PF, right?). I'd certainly keep Montero over Frazier and/or Pressey, since SG is the thinnest position in the NBA.
