Helfrich is the one that found and recruited Mariota. And the Ducks really had had a drought of good QBs since Dixon left in 2007. Masoli and Thomas were not that great, they were just good enough to keep it going.

Before that, the Ducks had a great run with QBs, Musgrave, O'Neil, Smith, Feely, Harrington, Fife, Clemens....alot of guys that took snaps in the NFL.

Also, I think if Vernon Adams finger did not get broken, and our defense was as good as it was in the Mariota/Thomas era, we wouldn't be talking about this. Vernon is as good as Thomas.

Gotta love non-fans telling fans how to feel.

If Mr Miller (whoever the hell he is) can't grasp the difference in the reactions to the MSU loss and the Utah defilement...all I can say is he is a drooling idiot.

    A) He acts as if fans at other schools wouldn't have this reaction.

    B) Duck fans have a right to care and shouldn't have to justify it.

Sounds like a straw man argument you are making. He didn't say anything about other fans and how they would react. And he's Duck fans have the right to care. And he has the right to call some of those out who are whining like bitches and shouldn't have to justify it.

Of course it doesn't, but it's more of a shtick then a narrative right? I love the constant curmudgeonly thing and yes I will step off your lawn in just a moment, but here's what I don't want to see from all this. I don't like seeing my school being painted as having a whiny/entitled fanbase. Collectively we're coming across as a bunch of spoiled brats... thats a terrible reputation to have. Ted is just pointing out the obvious here, don't shoot the messenger.

They say when adversity strikes, true character is revealed. The program has achieved so much and it hasn't been with the benefit of top end recruiting. Fans immediately turning on the coaches who've brought this success is more then misguided, it's pathetic. Have perspective & show some class Duck fans.

I agree with almost everything you said.

My problem, is that the messenger (Mr Miller) is creating the message. I have about as short a fuse as any poster here - and did you see me (or anybody) losing their minds over the MSU loss? All I saw and heard from Duck fans was normal disappointment. Losing to Utah - a brutal beat-down at home to a conference rival - provoked a strong reaction. I see nothing with wrong with that, and I disagree that is grounds to paint the fans as cry-babies.

Coming off of last year's Championship Game appearance, Duck fans calling for the heads those same coaches because of early struggles is flat ridiculous. If only ESPN Pac 12 Blogwriter Ted Miller had that opinion, one formed by reading emailer questions/comments from fans of the Pac 12 teams, you'd have a point about him creating that message. I've read several articles from him over the years where he's made reference to the high percentage of panicy Duck fanmail he regularly receives. But I've also read that same take from many others who cover Oregon football, & I've seen Duck fans lose their shit again and again in the comments following articles & on various forums including this one. Did you somehow miss the Joey Harrington link I provided in the "what next" thread? Many posters here were calling for coach's heads following the Zona loss last year. With the benefit of hindsight, would that have been a good idea?

Being the fanbase that wets it's collective pants at every turn is not the rep I want. Whining doesn't equal winning & it's a pathetic look for a fanbase
