I have to admit that I was a bit surprised by this. I mean you think a guy is good enough to give him a 7 year contract for $150M dollars & then basically tell him that he's not good enough to play in a crucial game. Sounds a little fucked up to me.
Yep, Ellsbury does have good post season success in his resume. Okay....the show goes on....maybe Gardy will get a couple of hits and Young will plant one in the seats. Just one of the many choices and decisions the GM.....er, I mean the MGR makes during the season game in and game out. Keuchel throws ground balls.....wouldn't mind if GJG uses the hit and run earlier in the game when the Yankee batters are ahead in the count. Nah....he doesn't do "hit-and-run" plays. Does he?
...the Yanx are not built for the "hit and run"...especially not vs a strike out pitcher like Keuchel.
But they are quite capable of hitting a ground ball and with the runner in motion it keeps the team out of the DP and just might find a hole through the infield. Nothing flashy. I like it when the opposing infield isn't sitting in rocking chairs waiting for routine grounders and DPs. Girardi is the one who didn't have the various hitters get the feel for it and have it as part of their state of mind by employing it on occasions...he could've done it here and there through the season and if he wanted to play it safe and not "mess up" the hitters or was concerned with it failing, he could've done it when the team had a 2-3 run lead once in a while. jmo Oh well, for another time. Go Yanks!
Tanaka has to avoid the gopher ball. Keep it close- Betances and Miller are both on call for 2 IP. Very worried about Houston hitting the long ball.
Didi and Refsnyder up the middle for a post season game for the Yanks. Bird on first. Don't know what the final score is going to be, but the Yanks have three kids already getting a taste of being post season starters.....I like it. Has to be a beneficial experience for them - good luck boys, and remember, ..you are Yankees!
...yeah, pretty much how they're built... .256 as a team with RISP ain't very good...especially since 62 of those hits were HRs.
...like I said, Houston is very aggressive at the plate early in the count...sometimes it works to their advantage, sometimes it results in a lot of strike outs.
I don't think any other player strikes out more with his bat on his shoulder than Gardner. Took a pitch right down the middle. Just watched it go by.
