I think the Bulls are going to look to dump his salary by the trade deadline. He doesn't start nor really fit in with Hoiberg's offense. Neither does Rose for that matter. Noah's getting 18 MPG and he's had some impressive games rebounding and playing defense. Hoiberg doesn't seem to care much for defense though. He's also one of the best passing big men in the game. He's on the last year of a $13M/year contract. We have the cap space to absorb it without having to give anything up. If we're in the hunt for a playoff spot, would you want him?
We'd get him for NOTHING. Just taking his salary off their books to save them from paying the luxury tax.
No, but having one of the best defenders in the nba help out with Leonard, Plumlee, Vonleh and Alexander would be very valuable.
I'd do it just to liberate Noah from the smelly undersides of the Bulls. But seriously, wouldn't the Bulls rather dump Taj?
They might want to dump both. I'm pretty sure they'd be happy dumping the guy with the #3 salary on the team who's not playing because he doesn't have a 3pt shot.
Yes! He's a big upgrade over Plumlee and Davis, and we're in talent acquisition mode, right? He's a great rebounder, defender and passer. Even if we're not in the hunt for the playoffs, why not continue maneuvering for more talent? What do you say, Denny? You know him better then any of us.
I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Noah and his defense/offense type play. I am worried about his health though. Isn't his knees shot?
I do not see the Blazers do it without another asset thrown their way. Something like Noah + ?? (likely pick) for Kaman + end of bench guy. I just do not believe the Blazers really care how far they go even if they make the playoffs this year. As much fun as this team is, it is not a championship contender this year.
Meh, might take him for kaman, and see what he has left. that gets us closer to the salary requirements. But at this point in his career, I don't think he's Much better than Davis or plumlee anymore
My first instinct would be no....health concerns and he'd be a rental that would take minutes from our younger bigs when we are in a position to lose and develop players without being in win now mode. He's also too old for our future and Kaman does the mentoring job pretty well
I think he can still play big minutes. He's 30 years old, so he's not a guy in the long term picture. He might have 3-4 years left though. His shooting has taken a real dive the past couple of seasons. But he is one of the league's very best offensive rebounders, which is good if you want to take a lot of outside shots with guys who aren't great shooters . He definitely can still play defense. I don't think his health is the issue for the Bulls. Hoiberg's offense is meant for stretch 4/5 types and Noah is definitely not one of those. Nor are any of the Blazers' centers. His contract is expiring, too. Maybe we could get something else in return as well, just for taking his salary off the Bulls' books.
We don't need to throw in a player. We have the cap space to take him in exchange for nothing. Or $100K in cash (or whatever the minimum is).
Absolutely yes. Getting a defensive center with his skills is not easy, and if his health checks out, definitely take him on. 3 yrs from now when we're contending, we will be desperately looking for a big man who can block shots and protect the rim. Take himn now.
