Heres the situation. You're up 1, 24 seconds left, other team has the final posession. They win with a bucket, you win with a stop. My question is, who would you guys choose to defense the man with the ball one on one?I'll post my thoughts later because I'm about to go out, but I just wanted to post this so I wouldn't forget.
It depends, is the guy on the peremiter, if so I'd probabely play Kobe Bryant, maybe Jason Kidd. In the post defense I'd like Ben Wallace of course, Ron Artest, and/or Dikembe. There are alot of other players you can play in the peremiter there are alot of the Larry Hughes/DeShawn Stevenson types in the NBA I wouldn't mind any of those guys gaurding him.

No necessarily a block/steal guy.
Clutch defense? Can I go Old School? Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Gary Payton, Bill Russell, and Hakeem Olajuwon. But from today, Jason Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan, and Alonzo Mourning.
all time - charles barkely (cofidence), larry bird (clutch), bill russell (winner), jordan (domination)now - ron arest (the best defender)

Hm, if it was the Cavaliers now I would say Eric Snow. NBA Today, Ron Artest. And I'll take MJ on all time. :winkglasses:

Are you kidding me? He was a matador on defense. In this situation it would be a terrible coaching decision to have him on the other team's best player. And this is kind of interesting. You decline to say Kobe as your first choice (which I would agree with at this point) but look at the reasons you picked when you picked your top four. Can you honestly tell me that there is a player in the league today that is more confident, clutch, dominating, and a better winner than Kobe? Some guys come close, but of those four traits I'd say he's the leading candidate. I just thought that was interesting.
Hmm, what about Tayshaun Prince? Long arms, known as a good defender and could probably stay with his man...just trying to change things up.
Trenton Hassell is one guy that comes to mind that has yet to be mentioned, His defense late in games is hard to beat. He does a great job defending superstars during the final seconds of a game.Carmelo Anthony knows about this first hand, He did hit a huge game winning 3 pointer but Hassell's defense on Anthony couldn't have been better. He shut him down through most of the playoffs.
I would choose Ron Artest, Bruce Bowen, or Kobe they're all fantastic lockdown defenders. For big men, I'd choose Ben Wallace, Tim Duncan, or Alonzo Mourning.
Bruce Bowen. He is the best perimeter defender in the league, IMO, and I am mad that he hasn't gotten a Defensive Player of the Year award. He has the size, strength, and anticipation to shut down any SG or SF, and he's quick enough to stop a smaller scoring guard.
I would actually go with Kobe Bryant. Not only is he a good defender, but he is very smart. He wouldnt foul anybody with time to go, and he gets respect from the refs, so he could probably play a little bit more physical than others. From watching him play this season (especially agaisnt the nets when he was guarding Vince Carter), Kobe was playing ridiculously physical and got away with it. Bruce Bowen would obviously be another person to name. He is great at fighting around screens, and he stays in front of his man.
I just realized I never posted a response to my own question... haha.I would choose Bowen or Prince. Two of the best man defenders in the NBA. Prince has freakishly long arms, and Bowen is just a great defender. Bowen, like CelticBalla said, is a great perimeter defender, and both of these guys can guard not only guards, but some big men too.
I would prefer Kobe or JKidd on the perimeter. In the post, I'd like to see either Ben Wallace, Alonzo Mourning or Ron Artest.. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't mind Artest being on perimeter neither. Ron plays great D.
Bowen would get my vote. If he managed to frustrate 7 foot Dirk last season, he can do it to anybody else. Even if Bruce does not the the blocked shot, he will still frustrate the offensive player to the point where the guy will miss the shot.
