No. 24 Cincinnati pulls away to 64-49 win over SE Louisiana

For the first time all season, No. 24 Cincinnati had a game on its hands in the final minutes. The Bearcats started playing like a ranked team.

Troy Caupain and Jacob Evans III scored 15 points apiece and led a closing surge that carried poor-shooting Cincinnati to a 64-49 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night.

No. 18 UConn survives Michigan rally in 74-60 win in Bahamas

Daniel Hamilton and UConn put together a solid all-around performance, and Michigan was unable to keep up with the talented Huskies.

Hamilton had 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, and No. 18 Connecticut beat the Wolverines 74-60 on Wednesday night in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis.

Caupain leads No. 24 Cincinnati past Nebraska, 65-61

For a kid who grew up on Long Island, playing at Madison Square Garden is the dream.

Troy Caupin has a soft spot for Barclays Center after his performance Friday night.

"I like Brooklyn," Caupain said after scoring 17 points to help No. 24 Cincinnati beat Nebraska 65-61 in the Barclays Center Classic semifinals. "It's newer."

No. 24 Cincinnati beats George Washington 61-56

Octavius Ellis had back trouble but played through the pain and didn't seem to have any problem holding the MVP award for the Barclays Center Classic over his head.

"It's game time," the 6-foot-10 senior said after scoring nine points and grabbing seven rebounds as No. 24 Cincinnati beat George Washington 61-56 on Saturday in the title game. "I just got to put my pain aside and just go out and sacrifice for the team."

No. 25 SMU beats Brown 77-69 to remain undefeated

Missing its top two scorers, newly ranked SMU needed a spark from Keith Frazier to survive an early non-conference test.

Frazier scored a season-high 23 points to power No. 25 SMU to a 77-69 win over Brown on Sunday.

Moore scores 26 points, leads No. 22 SMU over TCU 75-70

Nic Moore showed no ill effects of a broken pinkie that sidelined him three days earlier for No. 22 SMU.

Moore scored 26 points, including 19 in the second half, and the unbeaten Mustangs beat TCU 75-70 Wednesday night.

Purvis leads No. 25 UConn over UMass-Lowell 88-79

UConn, playing without its starting center, had a tough time making defensive stops against UMass-Lowell on Sunday.

It was the Huskies' second consecutive game shooting over 60 percent from the floor that helped them beat the River Hawks 88-79 in the first meeting between the two programs.

No. 17 SMU stays unbeaten with 81-69 win over Tulsa

SMU coach Larry Brown said it was gratifying during his nine-game suspension to start the season to hear people praise his team for its precise offensive execution, unselfishness and the unique passing skills evident throughout the roster.

Nothing has changed since his return.

No. 17 Southern Methodist carved up a Tulsa team that prides itself on defense, shooting 56.4 percent from the field and remaining one of five unbeaten Division I teams with an 81-69 victory Tuesday in the American Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Temple pulls away to 77-70 win over No. 22 Cincinnati

Temple dominated the closing minutes, shot 50 percent from the field and matched its season high with 10 3-pointers.

All of which left Cincinnati coach Mick Cronin stewing.

With their inconsistent defense, the 22nd-ranked Bearcats don't look like a typical Cincinnati team.

Quenton DeCosey scored 19 points and hit three free throws in the closing seconds, helping Temple pull away to a 77-70 victory on Tuesday, the Owls' first win over a ranked team this season.

No. 17 SMU beats South Florida 72-58 to improve to 13-0

Larry Brown was back at home at SMU, while junior guard Keith Frazier was unexpectedly absent.

No. 17 SMU remained undefeated with a 72-58 victory over South Florida on Saturday with head coach Brown playing only seven players following Frazier's sudden departure.

No. 22 Cincinnati beats Tulsa 76-57

After Cincinnati gave up an uncharacteristic 81 points to Iowa State and 77 to Temple in late December, coach Mick Cronin voiced his displeasure.

On Saturday, the defense returned in convincing fashion.

No. 22 Cincinnati held Tulsa to 22 percent shooting in the first half, built a 24-point first-half lead and beat the Golden Hurricane 76-57.

No. 23 UConn falls to Temple 55-53 on Brown's jumper

Temple guard Josh Brown knew he was going to take the final shot against UConn, even though that wasn't the plan.

The 6-foot-3 junior hit a spinning jumper in the lane with 2.5 seconds left and the Owls upset the 23rd-ranked Huskies 55-53 on Tuesday night.

SMU, playing with 6 men for most of game, rallies to stay perfect

No. 15 SMU is short-handed and still undefeated after a gutsy comeback.

"After that game, I just couldn't believe what I just witnessed," Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown said. "Still don't know what I just saw."

Jordan Tolbert tipped in Nic Moore's missed shot for the go-ahead score with 28 seconds left and then had a big block for the Mustangs, who had only six players most of the game and rallied from a seven-point deficit in the final 3 1/2 minutes to beat Cincinnati 59-57 on Thursday night.

Short-handed No. 15 SMU still undefeated, beats UCF 88-73

Short-handed No. 15 SMU can make a lot of 3-pointers and also put on quite a show with alley-oop passes that lead to rim-rattling dunks. Except those plays don't generally go hand-in-hand.

Halfway through the season in which they are banned from the postseason because of NCAA infractions, the Mustangs are still undefeated after an 88-73 victory over UCF on Sunday that included an attempted alley-oop that became a 3-pointer.

No. 10 SMU stays unbeaten by routing East Carolina 79-55

No. 10 SMU has found a bright spot in only having seven scholarship players: Plenty of touches for everyone.

Ben Moore scored 17 points and the Mustangs remained unbeaten by routing East Carolina 79-55 on Wednesday night.

No. 10 SMU survives poor shooting, downs Tulane 60-45

SMU coach Larry Brown figured that being unbeaten could become a burden on his team sooner or later.

That's what Brown sensed was happening to his 10th-ranked Mustangs when they visited Tulane on Sunday, but he couldn't complain about the way they snapped out of it in the final minutes.

Markus Kennedy scored 13 points and SMU overcame uncharacteristically poor shooting, pulling away late to remain the nation's only unbeaten Division I team with a 60-45 victory.

No. 8 SMU still only unbeaten after 77-73 win over Houston

Nic Moore delivered the message at halftime for No. 8 SMU. The senior point guard also did his part on the court to keep the Mustangs the only undefeated team in Division I.

Moore scored 23 points and had some part in each basket as SMU scored on five consecutive possessions down the stretch in a 77-73 victory over feisty Houston on Tuesday night.
