He will miss tonight's game after suffering a concussion because of Simmonds sucker punch. The NHL completely screwed this one up with no suspension being handed out.

Funny. The only Ranger that friend to do anything was Klein and his fractured thumb... You gotta love AV putting a team of pansies out there

There's nothing you're going to do at that point that's going to change anything what happened. Sunday, I'd have both Glass and Mcilrath in the lineup and one of them has to challenge Simmonds to drop the gloves.

Glad AV ripped the NHL today. Rightly said what would happen if Crosby was sucker punched and ended up out?

"An All-Star player gets sucker-punched, goes down. I wonder if that's [Sidney] Crosby, what happens? What are the consequences?"

    Rangers coach Alain Vigneault

Good for coach Vingnealt...it was a disgrace that Simmons didnt get suspended

To me, a cheap shot warrants a cheap shot in return. I have no problem with McIlrath laying a nice stick across his jaw and taking a suspension for it. It's not like AV plays him anyway.

Anyone who retaliates AV will bench. He is a pussy in his philosophy and his players play as such. Another reason why he is a dickhead

This AV stuff is getting out of control. A dickhead and a pussy lol.

I truly don't understand how people can say AV doesnt like physical players, fighting, etc. yet we see Glass in the line up day after day. It's the definition of a fallacy. AV sucks because he keeps playing Tanner Glass who only hits and does nothing else. AV sucks because he hates physical players and plays a pussy philosophy. Makes zero sense.

I might be in the minority but I'm not that upset about Simmonds not getting suspended for the punch. McDonagh got the stick up around his head (which for the record I'm completely fine with as it was in response to a late hit). They were jostling face to face, trading slashes. It's not like he was blindsided. Yeah I'm pissed off about it and it sucks McDonagh caught it in a way that he's concussed but shit happens. Crying for a suspension isn't going to change anything.

Yeah, he's a real 'dickhead' alright. Two years of making the final 4 teams with a bunch of wimpy, old and slow dmen and an offense that makes you wish you were watching sand dry instead.

Since a guy with a polar opposite coaching philosophy in Torts also enjoyed a modicum of postseason success here it's not like AV started the job with a bunch of losers. Torts stupidity with a roster featuring many of the same players on this year's team led to a few colossal postseason failures. I think the AV name calling is a little harsh but I sympathize with the frustration over his roster selections, I don't know how any Rangers fan could be happy with Glass in and McIlrath out, more so McIlrath. I give credit to AV for quickly converting the mindset of the team but he's also brought along some of the faults that led Vancouver to fire their winningest coach. He's had great success in his short Rangers career but isn't immune to criticism until he's raising the Cup.

No surprise with Simmonds about the punch but the lack of suspension for the stick throw toward the refs especially after the Calgary incident was curious.

AV better play McIlrath and sit Boyle Sunday if McD plays. If he doesn't he is a pussy

Here is my opinion, I am sure noone cares... lol.

But I think this was bound to happen. I am not trying to be negative, however when you see every player is afraid to drop the gloves and stand up for themselves and your teammates eventually this will happen to an all-star player. I don't know if it AV's philosophy or players are afraid, it doesn't really matter why but is has to be fixed. In this type of situation don't slash back but McD should have dropped his gloves and fought. He would have not gotten a concussion most likely and showed Flyers thugs that he is not going to be pushed around. It was a perfect opportunity for Captain to set an example. Glass does pick his fights, he is no Prust or Orr. Each one should start fighting back.

Av's retaliatory philosophy reminds me of joe torre when he was the yankee manager. Also never retaliated no matter how many yankee players got hit. Can't think of many nhl teams that would have stood around while their captain got cold cocked to the ice. Most others would have every player on the ice coming after him with bad intentions. Only Klein who with a fractured thumb was the only one you didn't want to see engaging with him tried to step in. I was a big fan when AV came in partly because how torts was running the team into the ground and partly his track record. I've been down on him the last year or so with his player moves but don't see him changing anytime soon.

What would Messier do in that situation, I wonder? I love McD, I think he is amazing but he has to be a better leader.

what would Messier do? He would slash Simmond's face with his stick and Graves would jump in and pummel the shit out of that thug.

Don't remember too many times anyone went after Mess as he had a mean nasty streak that resulted a lot of times the butt end of his stick getting (accidentally)misplaced in the other guys throat. And yes, if after that the guy was still dumb enough to come after him then graves would beat the shit out of him.

Well, it will certainly make for an interesting game at the Garden this Sunday....I suspect! I know I'm looking forward to it. The last time they face each other this season.
