Added a poll to see who you think will make the final roster. Assuming Omari Johnson will be cut, two more cuts have to happen before opening night. You can vote for 2. You can change your vote as training camp progresses.

The full amount of the contracts of Frazier, Montero, and Alexander don't become guaranteed until Jan 10, 2016. Up until that point they can be cut and the cap hit is the prorated amount.

Moe Harkless and Meyers make list of key free agents.

If Harkless plays as he has now for the whole season he likely gets a near max offer. Will be great if he plays so well but kind of suck if we have to pay so much to keep him.

The contracts for Alexander, Montero, and Frazier are guaranteed now for the season. Not a big surprise since the Blazers are so far under the team minimum salary. Apparently they had to be waved today for it to be effective Jan 10.

That minimum NBA team salary clause of 63 mil forces owners to give players like Aminu 8 mil. I wish Dame got that paycheck.

The Blazers only have to pay the salary for the remainder of the season. The first post is in regards to the salary cap; where the Blazers payroll is at $62,968,612. That is the figure used for required minimum team salary as well.

Varejao was paid 52/82 Cavs games so the Blazers only owe him $3,928,739
Roberts was paid 53/82 Hornets games so the Blazers owe him $1,009,673

So the Blazers will only have to pay $54,313,531 in actual cash.

I'm not sure the specifics of the players contracts but if some of their salary was instead paid as an earlier bonus the Blazers could be paying even less.

A few writers noted this point earlier this week; absorbing salary seemed inevitable because even if the Blazers didn't receive picks or any assets both them and a team over the luxury tax could save significant millions in cash expense.

Updated Post #141 showing the Blazers projected CAP space for summer 2016 (2016-17 season).

If the CAP is at $92M, it's looking like the Blazers could have up to $39,993,095 of CAP space (if they renounce the rights to all of their free agents.)

The estimated Max contracts will be:
0-6 yr NBA vet, 25% of CAP, $23,000,000
7-9 yr NBA vet, 30% of CAP, $27,600,000
10+ yr NBA vet, 35% of CAP, $32,200,000

Agreed. Even though the Blazers are responsible for only the player's remaining salary, the Blazers assume the full year CAP hit for calculation purposes.

I'd expect we renounce Roberts. Lillard has a chance of making an All-NBA team bumping his salary up significantly. I think that would be the $4 million extra per year going from 25% to 30%? With Memphis and Houston trading away pieces, and us only needing to beat out one of 4 other teams I'd say odds are more likely than not we make the playoffs and don't have that pick on the cap.

So that puts us at ~$42 mil in cap space. More likely is the $18.6mil in space if we keep cap holds on Hendo, Meyers, Harkless, and Crabbe. Something can change between now, the end of the season, or the draft. But thats the most likely scenario I suspect; we go shop for another value free agent or two with that space. $18 mil in space this offseason will be as effective as MLE $6 million money from 2006.

Mostly we just use cap room to retain our core; then talk about extensions for CJ and Plumlee.

    From ESPN insider

    http://es.pn/1SflbZo

"The last All-NBA spot will probably go to Damian Lillard, who is also eligible for a Rose rule boost to his salary next season and beyond if he makes an All-NBA team. As part of his extension with the Portland Trail Blazers, Lillard agreed to cap his possible salary at 27.5 percent of the cap, according to BasketballInsiders.com, which means a difference of approximately $12 million in future salary if he's chosen All-NBA."

I posted this in another thread, but it seems more appropriate here -

    Guaranteed:
    $21,109,000 Lillard
    $7,680,965 Aminu
    $6,666,667 Davis
    $3,219,579 McCollum
    $2,751,360 Vonleh
    $2,328,530 Plumlee
    $874,636 Connaughton
    $2,029,199 Varejao (stretched)
    $46,659,936 Guaranteed

    Non-Guaranteed:
    $874,636 Montero
    $874,636 Alexander
    $1,749,272 Non-Guaranteed

    Cap Holds:
    $9,000,000 Henderson
    $7,689,700 Leonard (restricted)
    $7,235,148 Harkless (restricted)
    $6,520,800 Kaman
    $3,711,422 Roberts

    $1,215,696 Crabbe (restricted)
    $35,372,766 CAP Holds

Assuming the CAP is at $92M:
    - If we bring everyone back except Kaman, we'll have $14,738,826 in room.
    - If we bring everyone back except Kaman and Roberts, we'll have $18,450,248 in room.

    Approximate max salaries:
    0-6 yr vet (25% of CAP): $21,564,143
    7-9 yr vet (30% of CAP): $25,876,971
    10+ yr vet (35% of CAP): $30,189,800

If we want to get to that $25,876,971 spot to make a max offer, we need to find another $7.5M. Of course everything depends upon timing. Crabbe will get more than his CAP hold, so his signing would need to happen after any other max offer we try to make, since we can go over the cap to match offers for our restricted free agents.
