What grade do the Giants have on Myles Jack?

Not the football grade, the other grade.

There is little doubt the Giants absolutely, positively love Jack as a prospect. He is everything anyone wants from a linebacker entering the NFL Draft and, if he somehow is not taken in the first nine picks Thursday night, the Giants most likely will count their blessings, select him and gleefully inject him into their revamped defense.

As long as they believe his knee can withstand the pounding.

“We listen to our doctors,’’ Giants general manager Jerry Reese said of looking at prospects with injury concerns. “If our doctors say the risk is too high or reject guys, we don’t take them.’’

Jack should be a sure-fire top-5 pick. He can play any linebacker spot, would be an immediate Day One starter for the Giants and heck, the guy was a very respectable running back as a sophomore at UCLA, so you know he is a special athlete. But he is a huge medical uncertainty. During a practice last September, Jack tore the lateral meniscus in his right knee, withdrew from school, underwent surgery and has been on the mend ever since. Last week, his scouting combine medical recheck went well, or poorly, depending on whom and what you believe.

No chance. They say he might need micro-fracture surgery down the line. No thanks. Giants have already been through that with high pick, players. They aren't going to risk it when they can take a franchise right tackle who is healthy. Or a DE that can replace JPP when they find out he can't play any longer.

FIRE REESE NOW. Eli Apple DB at 10th pick?

WOW. When I think this guy will not blow it,
he does it again. This is a definite reach.

I have had it with this dumb ass.

Reese: "He's the highest player on our board without issues."
Yes, Vic. He could have traded down and got this player.
This guy just does not know how to obtain extra picks.
    I am dumbfounded.

I'll get out of the way for Dump's blowup but I don't get this at all. They could've traded down and got the same guy plus an extra pick in the draft. Just completely stupid if you ask me.

You have to be fucking kidding me.

If you have Eli Apple ranked over Hargreaves, right or wrong, you TRADE DOWN. Do your god damn job, get an extra pick somewhere, and take him in the teens where he would have gone. This was an AWFUL pick at this spot. Tampa probably giggled handing in their Hargreaves pick.

And for the record, I didnt even want a corner. I thought Tunsil was a no brainer at this spot. But that aside, if Eli fucking Apple is your guy, you get the hell out of the 10 spot and get this team an extra chip.

    God I'm pissed. I hate sports :(

Reese wants choir boys instead of football
players. Three quarters of these football
draftees have issues, you stupid idiot.
Talent is missing on this Giant team. Your
GM abilities are lacking. I've had it with his
    negligent issues.

Hey, John Mara & Steve Tisch. Comfortable
with your wuss of a GM? Giants will be at the
bottom of NFC East Division. Still gonna give
this clown a job for his draft expertise?
    Shame on this organization.

Well, my comment on this would be as follows. On one hand, if either of the Giants corners got hurt, there is nobody that can't play. That much is obvious. If you look at our current roster for CB's, to say there is no depth past the top 2 guys isn't even beginning to cover it. They also didn't have anybody that could cover a slot receiver or good TE. Apple runs a 4.40 at over 6 feet which is quite rare. Said he's only the 6th cornerback to run a 4.40 or lower that is about 6'1 since 2006. I'm still waiting for a guy that can run with Jackson on the Skins. He will be given the perfect opportunity to learn from Jenkins and Cromartie. Now, could they have traded back. Possibly. However, you never know if Oakland at 14 would have taken him instead of the safety they did who was a lot more of a reach. Or Atlanta's safety. There were no safeties in this draft that were first round picks IMO. So, backs always being in demand command a premium. They usually go off the board. In this case I thinking trading down was kind of risky once the two OL and LB were off the board.

Now, what I will say is this. I would try to use players like Kennard and Bromley to move with my 3rd round pick to the second round and take Jaylon Smith and roll the dice. If he comes back, he's a pro-bowl LB for sure. It's worth the risk at that point.

I hope they draft a WR in the second round tomorrow and then use a player and their third to go get Smith. If they don't, then I hope they use those players to trade up with their third and take the best OL on their board. Even if it's a guard because they still need a guard.

Now, will the Giants move to the top of round 2 and take Myles Jack much like they did Collins? Figuring, Eli has about 5 years left and even if this guy only plays at a high level at 3-4 years, it's not a bad deal.

What I'll say about Tunsil is this. In the NFL, these pot heads usually never stop. They keep getting busted. I would not have taken him. There are just too many guys that can't get off the weed.

"Apple has an almost pathological aversion to the football. He often doesn’t even attempt to look for the ball and make a play on it, instead choosing to stay focused on his man and play with his back to the quarterback. Last season, had just one pick and four pass breakups; there could have been many more INTs but for this flaw."

I personally hate that in a CB. So, I hope the coaching staff immediately starts to work on that. That's a bad flaw at the NFL level.

Almost an automatic penalty in today's NFL trying to cover a guy like that.

Look I wont deny that CB was a need going into draft day. If the season started tomorrow we'd have Trevin Wade playing the slot. McBride is still a FA and Hosley thank god is gone (worst player on the team last yr behind Kuhn). But there is no doubt Hargreaves was the better pick there. And if you truly had Eli Apple ranked higher, you had to find a way to move down. Even a couple of spots. It really seems like Reese panicked when the Bears jumped us for Floyd and didn't have a back up plan. Again, not saying Apple isn't going to be a good player, but I really believe we could have gotten another chip if he was our guy. With your job on the line Reese should have found a way.

Regarding Tunsil, look, if you passed on every kid who smoked weed at some point you'd be passing on 3/4 of the board. Trust me on that. Obviously with him the problem is that he decided to record himself doing it, so I wont argue with you if you question his judgment. But there are tons of prospects who messed around with weed at some point and are completely fine. Not every kid turns into Will Hill.

In the long run it's probably better we didnt take him, Flowers is going to be at LT for a long time and I'd rather not keep switching him around. Thats why I was high on Conklin from MSU who could have been our RT for years to come, and then 4/5 of our line would have been solidified for the foreseeable future. Right side of the OL is still a big problem, as is pass rushing depth (whether DE or edge LB). Reese needs to step up.

The more I hear about Tunsil the more I'm glad the Giants passed. They're not the only team to do so. It's not only him being dumb enough to make a video like that but there's also stories about him taking money as well. Suzie Colbert asked him straight out if the video was him he refused to answer. It's a train wreck the Giants were likely smart to avoid. I'll see how the next couple of rounds go and how the Giants address their needs before really tearing Reese apart.

Yeah there's a lot of Tunsil stuff coming out. And it was happening pretty much live, as the draft was going on. Tough spot for the kid. Probably a smart pass both from a positional standpoint as I said but also a lot of baggage. But still, Eli Apple to me screams panic pick because (1) Chicago jumped up for Floyd, which means they thought we were likely going to grab him and (2) Tunsil news was unfolding before their eyes. All the more reason to move down a couple of spots. But it's over now, now Reese needs to redeem himself.

CB could be a potential horrific problem if one of the two starters goes down. Perhaps they thought they could get a good LB or OL in the second round a lot more than a good CB. This draft seemed very thin on CB's but decent depth wise at LB, DL and OL. Talk about reaching. There wasn't one WR or safety that was a true first round talent. Would I have taken a WR at 18-20 if I traded down. Yeah. That doesn't mean it wasn't a reach. If you weren't reaching, there were probably about 20 DL picks in the first round that should have been first rounders, 2 QB's, 4 OL, 3 DB's, 1 RB, 3-4 LB's.

Well there's your WR. The kid can play and will be a solid compliment along with OBJ for Eli Manning. Also, means if he is healthy Cruz likely moves to the outside so he doesn't have to cut as much as he did in the slot.

I can live with Giants' 2nd round pick.
He's a light weight with spunk.

Jints' 3rd round pick Darian Thompson,
a safety..... is a ballhawk who has questionable
tackling issues. Tackling from the linebackers
to the defensive backs has been a Giant problem
for too many years. The last line of defense needs
    to know how to tackle!

I am convinced that Reese and Company target
a specific kind of person and the football factor
is not the primary drafting goal.

It is frustrating to watch this organization
    selecting college talent.

The Giants picks overall actually haven't been bad at all. They recognized the defense needed to be rebuilt. The losing of leads and not being able to cover anybody was clearly a major issue. They have taken steps to rectify that. As well as steps in free agency to help with the pass rush. A wide receiver was a need and it appears from all accounts the Giants got a great kid. Now in the later rounds they need to address some other needs and if they do so this will not be a bad overall draft at all.

Happy they took a WR. free safeties are suppose to pick balls off and cover people. Your strong safety is suppose to tackle.

Thompson finished his college career with 19 interceptions and broke the Mountain West record for career interceptions previously held by Baltimore safety Eric Weddle. He's an instinctive player who makes sound reads and understands opponents' tendencies. He's consistently in good position as a result and he has the ball skills to take advantage when quarterbacks try to test him. He's also an effective run-stopper who wraps and finishes when he's able to square up.

In other words. Take these scouting reports with a grain of salt. When they all say the same thing you can listen.
