Doesn’t sound like Bruce Boudreau will be a sitting duck for long.

Fired by the Anaheim Ducks Friday, league sources told Postmedia Tuesday the Senators have added the 61-year-old to their list of candidates by officially getting permission from Anaheim GM Bob Murray to speak to Boudreau about their head coaching vacancy.

Of course, the Senators aren’t alone on the list because the word is the Minnesota Wild contacted Murray within hours of the announcement that Boudreau had been kicked to the curb Friday to get the right to speak to him as well. The Calgary Flames fired coach Bob Hartley Tuesday morning and they’ll be in the mix as well.

Senators GM Pierre Dorion will likely sit down with Boudreau sometime this week and suddenly there is a lot of competition in the coaching market.

While the Senators have already interviewed four-to-five candidates for the job -- including former Minny coach Mike Yeo, former Tampa bench boss Guy Boucher and veteran NHL coach Marc Crawford -- you have to think Boudreau vaults to the top of Dorion’s list because he has a strong track record.
