Aminu isn't listed as our starting PF on the depth chart yet he started many games there for us last year and (if you believe Neil) is going to start the season there this year.
Players don't only play their listed position, I think is the point here. Some players swing between a couple of positions. CJ will start at shooting guard, but he'll also play some point guard. Probably more point guard than anyone else on the roster other than Lillard.
Finally some logic. I don't argue this point, but I was purely talking from a depth perspective - the PG is our weakest spot with Lillard followed by Shabazz. As far as CJ playing PG when Dame went out, that is partially because CJ is capable of playing that position, but also because we were relatively weak behind Dame (As we will be this season as well). It's not uncommon for teams to be weakest in the spot behind their star player, and with our SG capable of playing point it makes sense that we would be less deep there.
I don't think there is anyway we get Okafor unless we give up CJ, which we wont do. There is little reason for Philly to move Okafor for what we have unless they desperately want to be better next year and don't listen to other teams offers.
Yep the thing is that even if they decide to trade one of Okafor or Noel there will be teams capable of giving them a better deal than Portland. I am still amazed they did not do that trade with Boston, one of centers for #3. They'd have gone with Dunn and it would have made both teams better.
I certainly saw how awful CJ was at trying to run our offense and move the ball around while attempting to play PG.
He's great at dribbling the ball around in circles and hitting the runner or fadeaway midrange, but I want my backup PG getting others involved. He's similar to Mo Williams in that regard.....I'm NOT calling him Mo Williams.
He had some amazing passes last year, he improved dramatically from his previous year in terms of PG skills. I honestly don't know what you're talking about, when the season began i thought CJ will be awful at the point, but he proved me wrong every night.
I agree with this. CJ is not a PG and ideally wouldn't have to play PG at all. Using him outside his natural position weakens his effectiveness and wastes his playing time. I would actualy rather see Dame at SG than CJ at PG
You're calling PG our weakest position when our two best players (by far) manned the position 90% of the time last year.
They signed Turner to play a more ball-handling styled SF for us this AND ALSO to be Dame's primary backup. I don't think CJ is going to move from SG this year. That's how he will provide more - by shooting / creating / finishing. I could be wrong - but that's the tea leaves from Olshey and Stotts in press conference for ET.
Dame and Turner should be handling most of the PG/ball handling duties. Still would like to see a vet PG signed to be mixed in with the second unit.
