Luckily with the bird exception we can pay him whatever it takes to keep him. The fact that he's the new kid in town makes it imperative that he be retained as a member of the Portland Trailblazers no matter the cost. Am I doing it right?

Should know soon if he takes the qualifying offer..he should. Don't know what they're waiting for unless Neil has a last minute sign and trade lined up

I will tell you what they are waiting for. Harkless doesn't want the QO. That is the last resort for him. He wants to stay with POR for longer than a year.

Did Murphy ever report that Turner told him he was promised he would start? Murphy just tweets Turner was promised he would start, but there's nothing that says where Murphy got that info.

Agree. He's waiting hoping that another team will make a bigger offer that the Blazers will probably match even if it puts them into the luxury tax. It seems like every week that goes by, the less chance there is of that. I think ultimately he's going to have to either take the QO or whatever the Blazers are offering, which is probably less than $8M per year to start so that they can stay out of luxury tax territory this year.

I thought they offered him 4.1 and one year...at least I read something to that effect.

Given Mo's history, I think he should take it and wait a year for a bigger paycheck. He'll become a better player in Portland than he would with many other teams.

Cant live life on what ifs though.

What if I get into a car accident on my way to work because traffic looks bad this morning? Life is a chance... if you want to gain anything...

From Mo's point of view, I don't see any advantage in taking the QO in July. It's unlikely that the Blazers are going to pull it in order to sign another player. He may as well wait and see if another team will offer up a longer and better deal that Portland can match or not. As of right now, there are still six teams with enough cap space to make an offer that would push the Blazers over the luxury tax threshold:

    1 Philadelphia 76ers $23,587,606
    2 Denver Nuggets $18,858,484
    3 Brooklyn Nets $16,735,735
    4 Phoenix Suns $13,242,017
    5 OKC Thunder $12,309,750
    6
    Utah Jazz $9,925,375

I don't know if any of those teams are looking for a SF or if they would think that Mo is the guy they want to spend cap space on, but why would he accept the QO until he's sure that there isn't a better deal out there?

    {Edit: I deleted the TWolves. They only have a bit over $8M in cap space and the Blazers still have over $9M in room before hitting the luxury tax threshold. Corrected for omission of Thunder.}

That's a poor analogy. Guarnteed long term millions vs 1 year.

Whoa.. who said guaranteed millions? Have yo seen an offer sheet?

Not a poor analogy at all.

Looks like the Blazers have ~$9M they could offer and remain under the LT this year.

Philly has Ben Simmons. I think he'll be their SF, no?
Denver has Gallinari and Wilson Chandler
Mo isn't much of an upgrade from PJ Tucker in Phoenix
Utah has Gordon Hayward at SF.

The team that I think would have a real reason to sign Mo is the Nets. They're a hot mess all the way around.

    Slim Pickings.
