I gave you a like, not because of cutting Vonleh, but reminded me that im going to cut him if I go with this. LOL.

Honestly, either him or Layman should be in the D league this year.

    Ill swap him with Laymen.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I tried to look at it from a need/depth standpoint. It was not easy since so many of our players can play numerous positions if a injury was to occur. The way I see it we have about 12 guys who give us a 4 deep.

    Dame, CJ, Napier, ET

CJ, ET, Crabbe, ? (Connaughton, Montero, or Quarterman)

    Harkless, Crabbe, ET, (Layman)

    Aminu, Plumlee, Leonard, Vonleh, (Jerrett)

    Plumlee, Ezeli, Davis, Leonard (Steisman)

There are two positions where there are just too many. (SG and Center).

Stiemsma is eliminated at center....as he is the odd man out
So IMO we either have to cut 2 of these 3 and keep Jerrett, or 1 of these 3 and cut Jerrett:

Connaughton, Montero, and Quarterman. And I have not seen Quarterman play. I really need more time to decide. But if I had to guess right now I would say.......Keep Jerrett because of potential and cut Quarterman.
That leaves Montero or Connaughton.......no idea who looks better in practice. I guess cut Montero

Montero to me is a second year Will Barton and Connaughton is a second year Victor Claver.....I'd keep Montero and let PC walk..Stotts will make the right decision...mine's from a pretty limited sample size, granted.

Patty is fully guaranteed though, while Luis isn't. Luis' competition for that spot are Quarterman, Jerrett, and Steinsma. Patty is safe however.

That is a pretty good comparison except that I think Will was a little further a long since he played two years of college and was player of the year in his conference. Luis only played one year of JC. But that could just mean he needs more time.
But like you said Stotts sees both play every day. We don't

First guy I'd cut is Connoughton. Dude is just one of those guys that can't shoot during a game. I'm sure he's a lot better in practice, but we've now seen him in 2 summer leagues and spot minutes during the season and his percentages are really bad. And he doesn't make up for that anywhere else.

Who actually thinks Steisman is going to make the team? Journeymen big men like him are a dime a dozen. And the Blazers have ample big men. They are going to keep someone that has some upside, not a 31 year old space-taker-upper.

15th man is going to Montero. Jerrett doesn't bring anything to the table we don't already have. He's going to be behind Aminu, Harkless, Davis; Leonard, Vonleh and probably Layman as well. Stiensma also has no role being behind Plumlee, Ezeli, Davis and Leonard. Pat and Layman are on guaranteed contracts this year and regardless of what the Armchair Collective thinks he seems to be in Stotts' good graces. Of the 4 going after 1 spot, Quarterman, Stiensma, Jerrett and Montero, only Montero shows flashes of having special skills. Yeah in the end it might be a failed experiment, but a we are talking about the 15th spot on the roster if that roster spot is ever a factor then the season is lost anyway.

Layman is good enough to be in an NBA rotation imo, he's just stuck on a deep team. Good problem to have however.

I don't know much about him, but if he can shoot and cover the perimeter, he might bring something to the table we don't have. Right now the only one on your PF list who can shoot is Leonard, but at 7'1", he is more of a center because he can't guard stretch 4's.

Aminu, Davis, and Harkless are not "great shooters". I was hoping Vonleh could be the guy. Jerrett is 6'10" and over 230 with a 7'2" wingspan and a 9'1" standing reach.

Here is what Draft Express said about him coming out of college:

"Moving from statistics into game film, it is clear is that Jerrett is, first and foremost, a jump shooter and a very good one at that. At 6'10 and as a freshman, he distinguished himself as one of the truly elite perimeter shooters in all of college basketball"

Maybe we keep him, hope he develops and use Vonleh as part of a possible trade package at the break.........

Jerrett is way better than I thought..great shooter who rebounds and has a high IQ for the game.

Eventually i would like to see Montero,Pat and Meyers gone. Layman and Vonleh still has 1 or 2 years of grace ,but i'm expecting the first 3 dudes to make room for people with actual potential.

Yeah if he goes anywhere it will be for an even better shooting big. Whether we like Meyers or not, this current roster lacks outside shooters. Right now we have 18 guys and I would only consider Dame, CJ, and Crabbe good outside shooters. (Possibly Napier, but how much will he play?) Meyers is the next best shooter we have. There are times in the game where we will need him.

I am liking our improved defense with our wings. (Harkless, Aminu, and ET) But even though Aminu had a decent 3 pt percentage last year, I think we still need either Layman, Jerrett, or Vonleh to also emerge. And I am not too confident one will.

We are going to need Meyers to stay healthy.
