It would be hard to argue against going after a 31 year old outfielder with his offensive ability. I'd obviously take him in left over Gardner easily.
I'd pick him up in a heart beat, simply so we don't have to put up with "Capt. Fantastic and his Sailing Shoes"...fkng Gardner.... Cepsedes has a damn good arm, more arm strength, speed, velocity and accuracy than Hicks, by far. Capt F, has a rubber noodle arm, makes some incredible catches, yet misses routine fly balls by misplaying, or being out of position....Gardner will go down in history as the first to one hop, or double hop a throw to the cutoff man, and triple hop a possible play at 2nd.....Fk u bg... Yoenis's bat, not bad, at times streaky hot/cold. Not always been a fan, tho' some yrs with RISP, he's been a monster, but lacks consistency at times, now that there are yrs worth of samples/stats..... I'd normally pass on Yoenis, love how he can make circus catches in ways that show how disciplined he's been since he was a kid, at executing over and over, with self discipline, 2 key attributes out of 3, for a winning org. The 3rd "Teamwork".... This team will need a FA here and there, I'd say more for Pitchers tho', a big bat or glove will be just as necessary. A true Team Leader needs to emerge, a veteran, perhaps not yet even on the Yanx Roster.....fun to come...
...I have mixed feelings about Cespedes...he tends to run very hot and cold...plus I'm sure he'll be asking for a ton of money. ...as far as Cespedes defense, sure he has a strong arm but in Gardner's defense, Brett's speed enables him to get to a lot of fly balls that Cespedes would never get to, so I think the defense is a wash...I do however like Cespedes RHed power bat as a corner OFer. ...5 years max or 4 years with a team option for a 5th year...just my 2 cents.
Thirty one and walking away from 47.5 mil to get more. One more spoiled guppy in the pond, let him go. Would appreciate the kids in full season, seeing Headley and Ellbury gone and hoping CC to be able to throw more surprised akin to the latter part if the year.
...to make things worse, the Mets will make Cespedes a one year $17.2 Mil qualifying offer after he opts out...this would mean that whoever signs Cespedes would have to compensate the Mets with a draft pick.
Keep in mind that if Edwin EncarnaciĆ³n doesn't resign with Toronto there's an excellent chance he ends up going to Boston.
Encarnation turns 34 in January, not sure how many years or dollars Dombrowski will part with if any at all. The Blue Jays would probably try to keep Encarnation over that loudmouth Bautista.
...that's how I see it too...I think they'll keep Encarnacion...and they'll make Bautista an offer that he may be forced to take. (he should have signed earlier this year when he had the chance)
Let him go. Will cost too much and want at least 5 years. Frazier will be up by the allstar break next year and thats the way to go younger and cheaper. Save the money for young starting itching.
