For someone to win with less votes in a democracy is mind-numbly stupid. California is only around 7.3% of the votes, so you're being a tad melodramatic. I think it's stupid to have all the votes in a state go one way or the other, thereby rendering every vote in the minority completely useless.

Thats assuming everyone in California votes one way. Also Mar added NY to that list, but conveniently forgot Texas is #2 and Florida is #4.

Huh? How am I assuming that? My whole point is that not everyone in a state votes one way.

    We're not a democracy.

    Nor should we be.

California is 10% of the population. They already get a huge % of the EVs.

More likely we'll kick them out.

I think depressed people looked at the electoral map and saw that the West coast and Hawaii were blue....then they started thinking, that's way bigger than Japan...has food, timber, resources, pot, entertainment....surf's up! Fuck Ohio!!! Someone actually did start a petition in California yesterday but I don't think they realize how many Republicans and retired military guys in Orange County and San Diego County.....Might want to start their succession from Santa Barbara to the north

Not a democracy, fine. Historically speaking, what do we call it when the minority get their way?

Btw, my argument is based in the fact that I'm not a democrat and live in California. I knew my vote was worthless and so I didn't vote. I'm sure there are many more who did the same thing.

You know what I find interesting?

If 10 million fewer Dems voted in this election, they essentially cast their vote against Hillary by not voting.

They didn't vote Trump, but they certainly didn't vote Hillary. So does Hillary win the unpopular vote?

I don't believe not voting is an option myself....I voted for a wider choice of candidates by not voting for the two major party candidates knowing I wouldn't win but could feel good about not voting against someone just to help someone I don't trust to win...Hillary lost because she sucked and didn't inspire the minority vote the way Obama did...and maybe, just maybe....it's not as easy to get elected in this country as a woman as people might think it is...Trump's groping women and locker room talk actually probably hit home with a bunch of white men who enjoy all that and felt he's their guy

99.9% of Californians don't wanna secede. That would be the Texans. And that's no joke.

    A Republic.

If we were a Democracy, the majority could have voted to keep slavery, deny the vote, and so on.

If you look at the electoral map....the west coast is at odds with the Midwest and South

"In 1970, California had the 7th most educated work force of the 50 states in terms of the share of its workers who had completed high school. By 2008 it ranked 50th, making it the least educated state. (Table 1a)"

We're a democratic republic. Only inalienable rights in the constitution are protected by the majority and the government they elect. Both a democracy and a republic elect government. So having the minority of voters elect a government in which the majority of people don't want is a joke.

A democratic republic. We vote for representatives who vote on our behalf on most things. Including for the president. The EC electors are who we elect.

California's interests are not the interests of Louisiana.

Or Ohio. Or North Carolina. Or Wisconsin. There's a reason why we have the electoral college, and the only people who seem to bitch about it are Democrats when they lose the popular vote.
