Marcus Foster's 27 lead No. 10 Creighton past Akron 82-70

Akron coach Keith Dambrot knows Creighton better than most nonconference opponents, perhaps better than he would like.

After his Zips lost 82-70 to the 10th-ranked Bluejays on Saturday night, Dambrot said this Creighton team appears to be a cut above the other three he's faced over the last 11 years -- even the Doug McDermott-led squad that beat his team by 16 points in 2012.

Providence beats No. 21 Rhode Island 63-60

Rhode Island coach Dan Hurley knew the Rams were in for a tough one against Providence, which had won the matchup of cross-state rivals six straight times.

He didn't see this coming, though.

Kyron Cartwright, who had made four 3-pointers all season, hit four of five from beyond the arc in the first half. The Providence point guard finished with 19 points and eight assists to lead the Friars to a 63-60 victory over No. 21 Rhode Island on Saturday.

Brunson helps No. 1 Villanova avoid upset against La Salle

Jay Wright led Villanova on a tour around the concourse of the Palestra, the basketball shrine that has served as the hardwood home for many of the game's greats.

Wilt Chamberlain played high school ball here. Kobe and LeBron, too.

There's even a spot dedicated to the greatest Villanova team of all -- at least, at the time the display was installed -- the 1985 national champions. The Palestra curators might want to clear space for `Nova's 2016 title team -- and maybe even prep a new wing for this year's Wildcats.

Jalen Brunson scored 26 points and Josh Hart had 21 to help No. 1 Villanova hold off La Salle 89-79 on Tuesday night.

Watson scores season-high 25, No. 10 Creighton beats Huskers

Creighton's 90-points-a-game offense didn't show up until late against Nebraska.

No problem. The 10th-ranked Bluejays were still more than good enough to beat their in-state rival again.

Maurice Watson Jr. scored a season-high 25 points, Cole Huff added 13 and Creighton dominated the second half in a 77-62 victory Wednesday night.

Creighton's 113-58 win over Lancers biggest margin since '02

No one at Creighton's game had to go hungry Friday night.

Fans win free pizza when the 10th-ranked Bluejays score 75 points. That was taken care of less than five minutes into the second half against Longwood.

By the end of a 113-58 victory, Creighton had set the CenturyLink Center record for points and posted their most lopsided victory since beating Texas-Arlington by 56 in November 2002.

No. 1 Villanova beats No. 23 Notre Dame 74-66

Jay Wright doesn't follow who is in the running for national player of the year. However, the Villanova coach thinks he has the best player in the country in senior guard Josh Hart.

After Saturday's career-best performance, it would be hard to argue.

"He's as good as any player in the country is and he's so complete. He will do whatever it takes to win a game and he has the ability to do it and at the right time," Wright said. "He got big rebounds at the end of the game. He got offensive rebounds, he scored, he made passes, he made free throws, he defended. He did everything. He's as complete a player as we've ever had."

Hart scored a career-high 37 points and No. 1 Villanova rallied from an 11-point deficit to beat No. 23 Notre Dame 74-66 on Saturday at the Prudential Center.

Macura, Gaston lead No. 13 Xavier over Utah 77-69

No second-half slump. No. 13 Xavier held on tightly to this lead, right to the finish.

J.P. Macura emerged from his shooting slump by scoring 18 points, and RaShid Gaston helped No. 13 Xavier get the edge up front against the nation's top rebounding team, leading the Musketeers to a 77-69 victory over Utah on Saturday.

Martin's bench work leads Butler past Cincinnati 75-65

Butler forward Kelan Martin understood exactly why he was pulled out of the starting lineup Saturday.

If he keeps playing this way, it may not happen again.

Martin scored 20 points, grabbed four rebounds and was the catalyst in two key second-half runs to lead the 16th-ranked Bulldogs past No. 22 Cincinnati 75-65.

No. 18 Butler holds off late comeback to beat No. 9 Indiana

Butler coach Chris Holtmann spent most of the last two weeks trying to get his team to play its old style.

On Saturday, the pleas paid big dividends

Senior forward Andrew Chrabascz recommended using an inbound play with 15.6 seconds left and Tyler Lewis found Tyler Wideman for a dunk to help No. 18 Butler hold on for an 83-77 victory over No. 9 Indiana at the Crossroads Classic.

Foster has 22 points, Creighton rallies to beat Oral Roberts

Creighton coach Greg McDermott knew the No. 10 Bluejays got away with one after they lost a 13-point second-half lead, didn't score in the final 3:28 and still managed to beat Oral Roberts 66-65 on Saturday night.

No. 1 Villanova romps past American for 18th straight win

Jay Wright offered a quick salute to 30 or so of the former Villanova players honored at halftime during an alumni celebration.

"Some former great players in the house today," Wright said. "I don't know if you noticed."

Oh, sure, the Pavilion crowd gave polite applause for the lineup that included Chris Ford and Harold Jensen. But the true Villanova greats in the house and catching notice were the ones romping their way toward another effortless game during a record winning streak.

Josh Hart scored 20 points in another performance that bolstered his player of the year candidacy to lead No. 1 Villanova to its 18th straight win, 90-48 over American on Wednesday night.

Chrabascz provides energy as No. 13 Butler beats Vermont

Coach Chris Holtmann expected more from No. 13 Butler on Wednesday night.

The crisp passes and fluid offense he witnessed in the Bulldogs' previous two games were missing. Their usually devastating 3-point barrage was off the mark, and the energy was lacking. At halftime, Holtmann made it clear what needed to be done and the Bulldogs responded.

Andrew Chrabascz scored a season-high 28 points and Butler shot 69.6 percent from the field in the second half to pull away from Vermont, 81-69.

Ponds scores 26, St. John's upsets No. 13 Butler 76-73

The losses to Delaware State and LIU Brooklyn seem long ago all of a sudden.

The talk around St. John's is all about the last two games -- a record-setting win at Syracuse and Thursday night's 76-73 upset of No. 13 Butler in the Big East opener for both teams.

Sumner's career day leads No. 17 Xavier by Georgetown 81-76

No chance Edmond Sumner could sleep in on his birthday, not with Xavier's Big East conference game set for an unusual 11 a.m. start time. Instead, the sophomore guard went out and rocked Georgetown with a performance that was anything but a snoozer.

Sumner scored a career-high 28 points on his birthday and J. P. Macura added 23 as No. 17 Xavier fended off Georgetown for an 81-76 victory Saturday.

No. 1 Villanova 3-point happy in 93-81 win over Marquette

Villanova's new T-shirt cannon that it hyped on social media was a dud.

The first couple of shots fizzled and shirts plopped to the ground before the machine malfunctioned and the tees had to be manually tossed to the crowd. The Nova cannon was even booed as it was rolled off the court.

Good thing for the Wildcats their offense never sputtered. Kris Jenkins, Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson were nearly flawless on their deep shots, and No. 1 Villanova returned to form with a 93-81 win over Marquette on Saturday night.

No. 10 Creighton beats Providence 78-64

Creighton coach Greg McDermott will get a little extra time to relish his first victory over the Friars in Providence.

The 10th-ranked Bluejays were preparing for an unexpected night in Rhode Island's capital on Saturday night after beating Providence 78-64. A snowstorm blanketed the area with up to a foot of snow, and Creighton wasn't optimistic about getting out on time.

No. 18 Butler fends off host Georgetown in OT

Freshman Kamar Baldwin ensured No. 18 Butler offered a productive encore to its upset of No. 1 Villanova.

Baldwin scored a career-high 16 points and helped hold Big East scoring co-leader Rodney Pryor scoreless to help the Bulldogs earn an 85-76 overtime victory over Georgetown on Saturday.

Butler (14-2, 3-1 Big East), which upended the defending national champions 66-58 on Wednesday, never trailed in the overtime to earn its third consecutive victory.
