The Bills have big decisions looming over the next month on quarterback Tyrod Taylor and cornerback Stephon Gilmore. And they’re still weighing all the options with both players, according to multiple sources familiar with each situation.

Taylor is guaranteed just under $31 million on March 11 if the Bills decide to exercise his five-year contract extension agreed to last offseason. That money includes a $12 million base salary for 2017, a $15 million option bonus, and $3.5 million of his 2018 salary. Taylor’s cap hit for 2017 would be $15.9 million should the Bills exercise the extension.

New head coach Sean McDermott and his staff have been reviewing film of Taylor and discussing whether or not they believe he should be the team’s starting quarterback in 2017. That decision has not yet been made, I’m told.

The Bills can internally make a decision whenever they want between now and March 11, but they cannot officially exercise the option until March 9, the first day of the new league year. If the Bills do not retain Taylor, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Last week, while at Super Bowl LI in Houston, Taylor told John Murphy on WGR that he hopes to return to Buffalo next season and that he’s talked to McDermott “about five times,” adding “I’ve seen Rico - Coach Dennison - a couple times around the facility. I've seen just about all the offensive staff, quarterback coach included. I talk to those guys often because I'm in Buffalo rehabbing from surgery.”

Last Thursday, CBS’s Jason La Canfora reported that the Bills had “significant interest” in acquiring Cowboys QB Tony Romo this offseason if they could not retain Taylor on a restructured deal.

As far as Gilmore, the cornerback is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next month unless the two sides work out a new contract extension or the team places the franchise tag on their former first round pick. As with Taylor, I’m told the team is still weighing all their options when it comes to the 26-year old.
