<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Reggie on the radar? No way of knowing how serious it is yet, but Reggie Miller could be a candidate for the Mavericks' vacant roster spot. Owner Mark Cuban brought up Miller's name before Monday's game against the Hawks. The former Indiana Pacers star is the No. 1 3-point shooter in NBA history. He retired after the 2004-05 season, but remains in excellent physical shape. And joining the Mavericks would give him the chance to do about the only thing he never did in his illustrious career ? win a championship. Avery Johnson said he and president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson have been discussing options for the open spot, but are not close to any decisions. Miller currently is a member of TNT's broadcast team. -Dallas Morning NewsLINK</div>Well its been on a couple sites about Reggie Miller filling a spot for the Mavericks. Right now it doesn't seem like much. It just seems like only a thought from Cuban. No word from Reggie himself. This article is from this morning, who knows if Reggie has even heard about it. It interestes me that Reggie is still in good shape. Mavs are a team of depth. Right now they have a couple injuries, nothing long term but....Greg Bucker, Devean George, & Josh Howard. I believe all are day-to-day though. If Mavs offer Reggie, I think a key part in bringing him in would be the potential of Mavs winning this years championship
The Mavericks would be easy favorites for a championship if he decides to come back and join the Mavericks. However I don't think that he will do it. He takes pride in the fact that he spent his entire career with the Pacers, and I don't see him returning more then half way into the season to try and win a championship.
I'm on the fence, at first I was perplexed. But Reggie does fill one need, a shooter. And watching Croshere these past few games, and George on his way. I think our big need falls down a notch. My only issue is Reggie's shape and whether or not he still has it after his retirement. Difference between him and Pip, is Reggie finished strong and had a key role. Pippen faded away.
I wouldn't mind seeing Miller come in off the bench for Dallas, he's still in decent shape. I would love to see him win a championship, he deserves it. Reggie Miller is a shooter, it doesn't matter how old you are. If you can shoot, then you can shoot. He should be able to come in and score 7-8 points per night.

I would much rather us sign a big. I've said it a ton and still believe we should invest in getting a 3rd string center to give us some much needed depth behind Diop and Dampier. Not so much as insurance for an injury because they arent really injury prone. In the last two seasons I've only seen them miss like a total of 5 games. The reason we need someone is because we all know what kind of foul trouble that both of them can get into early on in games. I just dont like Croshere and Dirk playing large minutes at the center position if and when Diop and Damp get into foul trouble. The only reason I could see why we would sign Reggie is becuase of the sudden hit of injuries to our wing players. Devean George has been out for a few weeks. Buckner didnt play last night and could be out a few more games on top of that. Josh Howard also went down last night with an ankle injury in the 3rd quarter. That leaves Stackhouse, Ager, and Croshere as players who can play that small foward spot. I'm not sure how serious the Buckner and Howard injuries are, but if they are, we are very thin. George should be back sometime next week or so. I'm just sort of split now on if we should sign a shooter like Miller or a servicable 3rd string center.
im not sure if he would even come back, he seems like the sort of guy who wouldnt do something like that. after 18 or whatever seasons with one team, its kind of hard imagining him coming back. it would be a good move for the mavs and for him since he would probably win a championship but I dont know if he would do it
Seems like most of you guys think, I also think that the only thing that is holding him back is him spending his whole career with the Pacers. And I love a player that starts and finishes with one team. Eveyone seems to think that the only reason Reggie would go to the Mavs would be for a ring. I agree in a way, but that shouldnt be the only reason for him to join the team. Hes a player that is actually needed. With injuries and Anthony Johnson gone. His help can be needed off the bench. I would see him getting like 15 mintues a game. Also the idea of him being a shooter. Shooters are always needed
I think Lazy has a point to why Reggie would come back. I dont think he would sign with any team just for a ring. I think Reggie's the kind of guy that would only want a ring if he actaully contributed to the team. If we didnt play but garbage minutes on the team, I dont think he would want it. I think he has to know that he is getting at least a good amount of minutes to come back. Not because Reggie is selfish or anything, but because he doesn't want an astrick next to his championship ring. He wants to be needed on a championship team, not just there for the ride. Know what I mean?
I'd definitely like to see Reggie get a ring, but I don't know what kind of minutes he'd get. I agree with pj, I don't think Reggie wants to be a Jalen Rose type guy and join a team just to be there for the ride to glory, I think he'd want to contribute. I'm not sure how true this is or how many minutes he'd play, but I would definitely like to see him get himself a ring.EDIT: Wow, what's with all these 40 years olds wanting to come out of retirement? Shawn Kemp, Scottie Pippen, now Reggie Miller. I love all 3 of them (except I don't have all that much respect for Kemp and his needles), but still.
Oh lord, first Pippen, now Reggie...He could possibly be a good fit. They could use another shooter, and he certainly can still do that. How effective he will be with them, I'm not sure. Depends on if he still has the speed to get around all those picks, and can still give 15-20 good MPG every game in the playoffs. Also depends on how much of a liablity he is on D.Personally I say help broadcast the game, not actually be in the game.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>I'm just sort of split now on if we should sign a shooter like Miller or a servicable 3rd string center. </div>Well considering the options for 3rd string centers, I think we were banking off certain players being waived after some trades during and after the deadline. And it does not seem to be happening, even with Henderson. Mavs only have until March 1st, the deadline for signing players who will be able to play on the playoff roster. That's this Thrusday, and leaves us with little options. The only exception to the rule is players who have not played this year at all have until last day of regular season to sign and be playoff eligible.Miller is the best option I've heard so far that's possibly available. That's why I have to lean towards him, unless someone else pops up or becomes available.
He should broadcast mavs games. Than he could partially feel like he won a championship without the stress of training to stay in shape. What great joy for him to say "The Mavs are World Champions!"
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>He should broadcast mavs games.</div> I prefer Followil/Ortegal over Mr. Stammer.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Well waterboy for the mavs than? </div>How about TNT announcer if he's not joining the team playing wise?
I'd like to see it happen, just because it'd be interesting to see the outcome. My prediction, IF HE EVEN DID COME BACK, would be that he's not very effective. 3 ppg, 1 apg.
