I like them all except the Skylab project. Epic fail. The orig. design was great - the changes they made when it was 75% finished ruined it all. Barfo will love this one, I do, and it's going up just a few blocks east:
I love those building down by the Burnside bridge. Very European feel. Look like some buildings I've seen in London and Amsterdam.
So, they're re-cladding the Portland building. The metal paneling replacing stucco is going to make a massive change ..for the better. I loathe stucco with a passion. Before: After: Keep in mind this will be a $250m project. Placesovertime: "In the end, after all this dust settles, most passersby probably won’t even notice the drastic change from stucco and concrete to painted metal panel or that the building envelope will soon be seven inches wider than before."
Dear Portland, Your traffic sucks. WTF? And. No room to expand or improve upon the existing infrastructure. It's only going to get worse. I've been through town 4 times in the past 8 days - I really cannot believe how shitty it's gotten, and it can be extremely shitty at any time of day. When the apocalypse happens, or some sort of serious disaster, all you MF'ers living on top of each other will struggle to survive in a perilous battle.
Dear Suburbia, I also noticed that traffic became really shitty 4 times in the past 8 days. I blame you. Stop coming to town and things will be better for both of us. barfo
Traffic always sucks in Portland. I just had the misfortune of having to travel through it several times recently. And I don't live in suburbia. I live in a rural area.
I was just driving thru Manhattan this morning on my way to the airport. Our traffic is pretty god damn amazing compared to theirs!
@Fez Von Savage Where do you get these pics at? Online? Are you part of the overview flight crew? City Planning?
I generally know most of the downtown projects so I go directly to the architecture firm's website. DJC Oregon and NextPortland are the sites for info and renderings.
This aerial shot really shows how dense the Pearl is getting: And 10+ projects are still in the pipeline.
. .. . For those who aren't aware - this building is getting gutted to the studs - exactly like the Edith Greene federal building. This will make a huge difference in appearance. Going from stucco/concrete, where there is texture and warping, to smooth painted aluminum is going to transform this building - for the better. The glass being used will go from the 1980s mirrored glass to glass similar to what was used on the Ladd Tower.
