Man. This one hurts. You had a rough life but I'm glad you finally got your time in the sun Charles.

I first heard Charles Bradley when I was going through a rough time a few years ago. Listening to him and watching him bare his soul for all to see helped me get through. He just totally blew me away a month or so ago at Pickathon - made me cry during the show. I looked over and saw a sea of wet, salty faces.

Watch these, if you feel like it.

This is the first song I heard of his: a Black Sabbath cover that just floored me.

Here is his life story in song. I dare you to watch this all the way through and not cry just a little bit.

And for those still with me, here is a full performance from SXSW last year.

If you aren't touched at least a little bit, you lost your soul a long time ago.

I did a double take because I thought it said "Charles Barkley."

    RIP

Dude - I said the same thing. It threw me for a freaking loop. I was like "how had I not heard of this yet."

    RIP, though. :(

Loved him as the singing voice of Krampus. Probably my favorite episode of American Dad.

I highly recommend the documentary on him from a few years back. Hard not to root for him after watching it. I had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years ago. Brilliant performer.

Losing both Charles Bradley and Sharon Jones in the past year is a huge loss

I did that too. And it wouldn't surprise me at all either.

What's the name of the doc?
Interesting fact: Both Bradley and Sharon Jones performed songs on last year's Luke Cage series on Netflix. The rest of those cats better be careful.

How sad is it that I know who Justin Beiber and Taylor Swift are but had no idea who this guy is? Will watch more later.

Damn. The Screaming Eagle Of Soul is definitely one of my favorite soul singers of all-time.

Definitely. Such a great story too. Tried and failed his whole life, lived on the streets for part of it, and finally released his debut album when he was 62 and broke out. Talk about a redemption story.
