Local news is saying there is going to be an announcement about a major sporting event that is coming to Portland. Some announcement at 11am today at City Hall.

    Anyone know what this is?

Indy Car racing is coming back to the PIR.

    That's cool.

As usual, the "major" sporting events that come to Portland are a disappointment.

I always liked CART racing in Portland.

The Andrettis had some great races at Portland.

Indy Car will be cool. I loved going to the CART races back in the day.

When? Might be time to schedule a trip to what I still call my "home" track.

CART in PIR was always a great time.

Indy is cool, but wish it was F1. Imagine if, rather than Bridge Pedal, we had Bridge Pedal to the Metal!

A circuit that used the Fremont and Marquam bridges would be amazing! Over the top deck of Marquam, either the Water Ave or Rose Garden exits, surface streets to the I-5N on-ramp at Broadway/Williams, over the top deck of the Fremont to the Burnside exit, then through downtown and onto I-5/Marquam bridge at the bottom of Marquam hill.

I think I'm going run for mayor and this will be the entirety of my platform!

    1. Limited spots to put up bleacher seating.

    2. F1 cars do get airborne, one crash, one flip and that's a death fall into the river.

I have been to F1 races. The snob factor is too high. It will never happen in Portland.

    So... it'll happen in Seattle?

Did I do that right? That seems to be how people think about Seattle - though I love the city.

You bet your ass. I was in much better shape when I raced cars as an amateur(*) - these guys are top level athletes.

    * - part of it was that I could not get in the seat of my car if I gained any weight - but whatever the reason is - you need stamina, you need to be able to handle extreme heat or cold (if you are in an open cockpit car) for long times under high stress and extreme g forces.

    Think of the ratings!!!

Besides, Monaco seems to hold a pretty spiffy race with less space for bleachers than we could offer...
