No. 18 Purdue beats No. 2 Arizona 89-64 for 7th in Atlantis

Purdue kept knocking down shots -- 3-pointer after 3-pointer, with midrange jumpers thrown in -- on the way to a lopsided win that allowed the 18th-ranked Boilermakers to close the Battle 4 Atlantis on a positive note.

The unexpected part? The overmatched opponent was a second-ranked Arizona team on its way to a third loss in as many days.

Dakota Mathias scored 24 points to help the Boilermakers roll past the Wildcats 89-64 in Friday night's seventh-place game, sending a Final Four favorite home with a winless showing in the Bahamas.

Alabama, down to 3 players in 4th, loses 'bizarre' game vs. Minnesota

Minnesota coach Richard Pitino never saw anything like it.

Nor had Alabama coach Avery Johnson.

"That was one of the most bizarre things I've ever been a part of," Jordan Murphy said after he scored 19 points and and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead No. 14 Minnesota to an 89-84 victory over No. 25 Alabama, which finished the game with just three players, in the championship game of the Barclays Center Classic on Saturday.

Purdue uses size advantage to upend No. 17 Louisville 66-57

Purdue coach Matt Painter gambled Tuesday night.

Center Isaac Haas made sure it paid off.

The 7-foot-2 senior played most of the final 15 minutes with three fouls, banging around and drawing fouls on Louisville's leaner defenders. Eventually, Haas' inside presence loosened up the defense for his teammates who used a late run to finally get past the 17th-ranked Cardinals 66-57 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

No. 3 Michigan State beats No. 5 Notre Dame 81-63

Tom Izzo is usually hard to please, consistently finding fault with his teams following victories.

After No. 3 Michigan State beat No. 5 Notre Dame 81-63 on Thursday night, he looked and sounded uncharacteristically happy after a game.

Mason, Murphy help No. 12 Minnesota rout Rutgers 89-67

Coaches aren't usually concerned about a letdown in the first conference game of the season. But No. 12 Minnesota was coming off a hard-fought loss to a ranked opponent, and with lightly regarded Rutgers on the schedule Sunday, Richard Pitino had cause for concern.

Nate Mason, Jordan Murphy and the rest of his players put those fears to rest quickly.

Mason scored a season-high 26 points, Murphy had his ninth straight double-double to start the season and the Golden Gophers beat Rutgers 89-67 in the Big Ten opener for both teams.

No. 3 Michigan St beats Nebraska 86-57 for 6th straight rout

Jaren Jackson gave himself a chance to show some of his potential because he figured out how to stay out of foul trouble.

The freshman had 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks to help No. 3 Michigan State beat Nebraska 86-57 on Sunday.

Bridges scores 21 as No. 3 Michigan State beats Rutgers

After blowing out its last six opponents, including highly regarded North Carolina and Notre Dame, No. 3 Michigan State was due for one of those off nights.

It almost cost them against Rutgers.

Miles Bridges scored 21 points and the Spartans (8-1, 2-0 Big Ten) overcame their worst offensive performance of the season with a 62-52 victory over the surprising Scarlet Knights (6-3, 0-2) on Tuesday night.

Watson lifts Nebraska over No. 14 Minnesota 78-68

Glynn Watson Jr. was coming off a miserable game, with six points on 2-of-11 shooting in a loss to No. 3 Michigan State. He got back on track Tuesday night.

Watson scored 20 of his 29 points in the second half and Nebraska opened up a 16-point lead early in the second half en route to a 78-68 win over No. 14 Minnesota.

No. 21 Purdue dominates Valparaiso 80-50

The Purdue Boilermakers don't spend too much time worrying about the college basketball landscape. That doesn't mean they're oblivious to games played outside of Mackey Arena.

Ball State's upset of No. 9 Notre Dame earlier this week earned Purdue's undivided attention. So, when an undefeated Valparaiso arrived on Thursday night, the 21st-ranked Boilermakers (9-2) avoided becoming the latest victim to suffer an upset loss by smothering the Crusaders with aggressive defense and fast-paced offense on the way to an 80-50 win.

No. 2 Michigan State holds off upset-minded Oakland 86-73

Tom Izzo and Michigan State probably needed a game like this.

Little Caesars Arena definitely needed it.

Detroit's new downtown sports venue -- where empty seats at Red Wings and Pistons games have limited the buzz so far -- was a pulsating home for a college basketball doubleheader Saturday, and No. 2 Michigan State capped the all-local event with an 86-73 victory over upset-minded Oakland.

Rutgers, behind Corey Sanders, tops No. 15 Seton Hall 71-65

Steve Pikiell is turning around the Rutgers' basketball program a lot quicker than anyone expected.

Corey Sanders scored eight of his season-high 22 points in a game-ending 17-2 run Saturday, leading the Scarlet Knights to their biggest win since Pikiell became coach last year -- a 71-65 win over No. 15 Seton Hall.

Morgan helps Indiana rally past No. 18 Notre Dame 80-77

Indiana forward Juwan Morgan spent all week preparing for a showdown with Notre Dame star Bonzie Colson.

Turns out, all Morgan needed was one frantic flurry to take down the preseason All-American.

Morgan scored the final eight points in regulation and eight more in overtime, including a go-ahead dunk with 8.6 seconds left, and Indiana rallied past No. 18 Notre Dame 80-77 on Saturday.

No. 16 Purdue cruises past Tennessee State 97-48

No. 16 Purdue had Tennessee State right where it wanted the moment the Tigers set foot inside Mackey Arena.

The Boilermakers haven't left the state of Indiana since Dec. 1, meanwhile Tennessee State was playing its fourth road game in 10 days.

Carsen Edwards scored 26 points, P.J. Thompson finished with 17 and Purdue cruised to its eighth straight win with a 97-48 victory.

No. 2 Michigan St wins 11th straight, tops Long Beach 102-60

Miles Bridges attracts a lot of attention on offense, drawing eyes as one of the top players in college basketball.

He's only one of many Michigan State players defenses have to try to stop.

Bridges had 17 points and nine rebounds as part of a balanced offense that gave the second-ranked Spartans a 102-60 victory over Long Beach State on Thursday night.

No. 2 Michigan State routs Cleveland State 111-61

Tom Izzo took the microphone after the game and addressed the Michigan State crowd.

His team had just played another routine late-December tuneup, and games at this time of year aren't ideal for student attendance, but there were enough Spartans fans at the Breslin Center for a lively atmosphere.

"You packed this place when we got no students here or anybody else here, and everybody's in the Christmas spirit," Izzo said. "You guys are supporting your Spartans, and your Spartans appreciate it."

Nick Ward had 22 points and 14 rebounds , and No. 2 Michigan State rolled to a 111-61 victory over Cleveland State on Friday night, the third straight game for the Spartans with over 100 points. Michigan State led 63-25 at halftime after shooting 74 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes -- including 9 of 13 from 3-point range.
