So Jimbo’s no longer in limbo. He’s jumped ship to Texas AM. The Seminoles are reportedly ready to offer Taggart the job, undoubtedly hoping he can bring a major portion of his talented recruiting class with him. His press conference at 2:00 today should be interesting.
From what I’ve read, A & M spent a bunch of money on facilities lately and he thinks that will help him recruit. Also, I suppose that honeymoon period new coaches get sounds more appealing than the heat from alums who want to win now.
Honestly don't know about Willie. If the pull is there and he wants to go he will. But he just spent a year getting closer to his goal of being the first black coach to win a national championship..... he has a Heisman Trophy contender at QB and the 6th rated incoming recruiting class. Why the fuck would you blow that up?!!!
Because if he could do all that at Oregon, imagine how much more he could do at Florida State, with more access to top-notch recruits, better locale to draw them, better access to east-coast viewers/voters (since he won't be playing at 10:00pm EST), and the basic benefit of the doubt that comes from playing in the South.
He's got a chance to build his own legacy not add on to one that's already there. He's proven he's got more than enough connections on the West Coast form when he coached at Stanford to make up for access problems to the South/Florida pipeline. And fuck the East Coast Viewers, if anything catering to their patronage has hurt other West Coast programs attempts at the national stage. Look at the way ESPN treats Petersen and Washington. That fair weather attitude would have Willie out on his keister the moment they felt he wasn't living up to expectations.
I don't get how Oregon, with all it's money, facilities and recent success is still a damn stepping stone job. Get someone who wants to be at Oregon...other than Helfrich
I think this is a unique opportunity and doesn't reflect upon Oregon. This might be the only school Taggart would consider jumping to and it just happened to open up. Don't get it twisted, he's going to listen to the offer. I seriously think this is close to a 50/50 shot he leaves, IMO.
Opinion. It is notable that he hasn't signed that extension Oregon offered him yesterday though. He's simply going to listen to FSU. Due diligence. He'd be an idiot not to listen.
I think Willie stays in Eugene..he's already entrenched in recruiting here and is just building his brand.
