When I were a little nipper, it was a Big Deal to get a hit single in the Xmas season, because every granny in the land would then buy it for their grandchildren, and you would make out like bandits. The weirdest songs would make it, too (like the Pogues one above, which is regularly voted the greatest Xmas song in England - and I saw them perform it live in Brixton). This one has stuck in my head since childhood:
