He should get another chance in the league, I think hes good enough to be a backup point somewhere.

Many on the board (me) wanted to keep Briscoe, of the 3 players (Anthony Morrow, Archie Goodwin) Olshey waived to get down to 14 players. I thought he'd go to the G-League, and we could compare him to players well-known in the U.S. There are only a few such players where he's playing. Disappointing.

Yeah I was heavy on the Briscoe train. Even with a so so jumpshot he still made an impact in other areas, and most importantly looked like an actual point guard. I know I’d rather have him running the offense than CJ.

Same applies to Baldwin, but at least we’ll probably see him at some point.

G league showcase is in Ontario for the next four days. I believe most NBA executives are in attendance. Baldwin plays at 3:30pst. Swanigan at 5:30. Both games will be on twitch.

My first time to Twitch or Snitch or whatever it is. No log in required, free. Baldwin on Canton Charge, Cliff Alexander on Wisconsin Herd.

Baldwin, hand still wrapped, makes his first shot from about 20. Makes his 2nd from about 23. Gravitates to the left corner everytime he bring sit down. Too predictable. But then he takes it right. Maybe he was decoying them into expecting it everytime. He moves slowly and deliberately, might take a year to integrate into the Stotts style. Timeout.

Cliff Alexander takes it in for a hoop, for the Wisconsin Herd. He handles the ball outside now sometimes. Baldwin sure isn't hyperactive in the Stotts style. Baldwin air ball, tape coming off finger, rips it off. Walks to bench fiddling with thumb. Man, Alexander is a sieve on defense. Ow! They like to have him handle it outside and he throws it away, supposed to pass inside. Fucking sieve again inside. Flips in a shot on the run! Timeout.

Neither is in now. 1st quarter ends. 34-27 Texas. 2nd quarter, neither is still in. Much higher quality of play than when I last watched D-League 2 years ago, because all the NBA scouts and GMs are here. Cliff comes in. Again, he's the hub of the passing wheel. Wade's in, too. Spins and misses from 10 feet. Cliff makes good catch to score, but is blocked, gets free throws. Wade is fouled on a screen, no call, makes layup. Alex has a set role on this team, unlike last time I covered him in this league 2 years ago, when he was lost. Timeout.

Baldwin gets fouled, free throws. He fouls Shannon Brown hard on the brow. Get it? Brown on the floor a long time, blood on eye. Baldwin has habit of swiping arm straight up into air, looks weird. Black eye on Brown. Mopping blood not allowed, there's a more complex procedure apparently. Spraying the floor. Ruled Flagrant-one. Brown able to shoot FTs. Makes both, returns to bench. Cliff not in, Wade in. Baldwin fouls another guy with his straight arm, looks worried, goes to bench. Timeout.

Cliff misses. Carries a lot less weight than when he was a Blazer. 2 years ago was out of breath, couldn't last many minutes in D-League. Cliff passes crosscourt, didn't pass 2 years ago. But his inside defense consists of putting up his arm in the air 2 feet from the shooter's arm. Which is 3 feet closer than Meyers Leonard gets his arm. Man, Cliff took an hour to rise on that dunk, was easily blocked. Dunk artist wannabe. Halftime, Texas 62-59 over Wisconsin.

Snazzy long, long bounce pass by Baldwin results in teammate flipping it in under the hoop. Is Cliff a starter on his team? He's not in. He enters game with 10 minutes left in 3rd, misses layup. Are these quarters 12 minutes? I've been gone too long. Cliff makes a close one. Baldwin sees a lane from 25 feet out, dribbles it in for layup. Misses a long shot. Fouls. Cliff misses outside shot. Wow, now he makes a very hard falling away well guarded 10 footer. But no foul called. Cliff dribbles in a flurry to no avail, it's stolen. Dunk artist with flair wannabe. Why dribble, just turn and shoot. Timeout. If you're a fat guy in Canada, you get a job standing on the sidelines during timeouts here. Very obese.

Cliff has all day from the 3, misses. Gets offensive rebound, can't put it in. Baldwin apparently being held out because of fouls almost getting him thrown out. Misses a 10-footer just like the well-defended on he missed before. He sure is in better shape than when we sent him down. Another missed offensive rebound. As I said 2 years ago, he has no height advantage in the D-League. Does not stand out. Timeout.

Neither is in now. Many minutes go by. End of 3rd quarter. Texas ahead, 96-80. Defense picked up. Makes Baldwin look bad, big surge without him.

Baldwin in, Cliff not, Shannon Brown in. Will Baldwin hang tough? Wow, swipes his arm on Brown who is taking it downcourt, to stop easy bucket. But Brown is called for the foul this time. Wade got lucky. Baldwin called for foul but falls on tummy with face in the ball he's holding. Baldwin back on bench, good move. Too physical, he'll get thrown out if he makes another mistake. Canton's big star, SG Justin Dentmon is carried off the floor. Timeout. I'll mark it as 9 points up when Dentmon left.

Cliff in, Wade not. Late in the 4th quarter, D-Leaguers used to play slowly and it hasn't changed. Cliff doesn't make it past the halfcourt line on some plays. NBAers definitely play harder late in the game. Ruptured achilles tendon for Dentmon. Season over. Cliff's coach sure uses him for passing now, though I see no special passing talent. Cliff makes ferocious putback. 4 minutes left. Cliff makes a bucket. Gets defensive rebound, practically walks down, takes pass at FT line and misses slow shot. He always shoots outside every slowly and misses. Inside, he's all power, and usually misses against a defender. 2 minutes, Texas up 12, Baldwin in, playing cautiously. Time out. Cliff out. The two players have rarely played at the same time, making it easier for me. Set play after timeout to Baldwin for wide open layup. Baldwin plays till end of game, final score 124-113 Texas led whole game.

Pretty sure jlprk's g-league (then d-league) game day is why I joined the forum nearly 4 years ago. Glad they are showing games somewhere other than Facebook and he's back to it!

Baldwin didn’t play his normal minutes, guessing because it’s a showcase and he already has a contract with an nba team.

    Final line: 14 points (6-11) 5 assists 3 rebounds, 1 steal in 22 minutes.

He only got credited for one steal but even from this highlight you can see he made a bigger impact than that defensively. I also really like how much zip he puts on his passes. Evidently he was a big time baseball player in high school watch the fuck out pat.

Swanigans final line: 13 points (5-12) 16 rebounds 4 assists 2 blocks and only one turnover. Didn’t watch the game but here are his highlights. The interesting “development” has been him starting at center the past two games. Wonder if portland is going to be losing one soon ;)

No, no, no. You missed the dramatic theme of the game. I guess it's hard to read my fine print, so I'll annotate. At first I was humorous about "Brown" and "brow" but then it got serious.

He's worried because the refs will throw him out at the least provocation. Baldwin needs a balancing act to play cautiously yet not fearfully. After almost being thrown out of the game, the coach sits him for a long time till halftime. He starts the 2nd half, plays a couple of minutes, fouls, and is pulled back to the bench.

Fouling was not the thing to do when he was already skating on thin ice. After he's held out a long time, minutes later...

    Minutes later...

Shannon Brown, the player Baldwin bloodied, comes back in the same time Baldwin does. Oh oh. Baldwin is fouled when it looks like actually he fouled, then in a minute repeats his swiping-arm defense. Dumbshit has got to control that horrible habit. Coach pulls him right back out. Here's how I called it.

Possibly in revenge, the best player on Baldwin's team has his season ended here in early January.

Many minutes go by. I'm covering Cliff Alexander for lack of something to write, because Baldwin has been held out so much, due to his inability to control his stupid swiping arm. Finally he's in at the end, to give him a little confidence for the next game probably.

    Wait what??

You do realize we didn't draft him right? You do realize he was drafted the year BEFORE Kuzma and Bell right??

"On June 23, 2016, Baldwin was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 17th overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft.[6] On July 16, 2016, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Grizzlies.[7] He made his debut for the Grizzlies in their season opener on October 26, 2016, recording seven points, five rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks in 24 minutes off the bench in a 102–98 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.[8] On December 6, 2016, he recorded his first double-digit scoring game with 11 points in the Grizzlies' 96–91 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.[9] During his rookie season, Baldwin had multiple assignments with the Iowa Energy, the Grizzlies' D-Leagueaffiliate.[10] On October 16, 2017, Baldwin was waived by the Grizzlies.[11]"

Fill in the emotions as you read, based on games you've watched. If Wheels or Kevin Calabro had to type, they would be similarly incomplete.

Brown couldn't see anything, to shoot the free throws, but he had to, to stay in the game. They were talking stitches, and finally after wiping off his face, we could see a black eye under the blood. While the refs reviewed the video for a few minutes, the sweepers weren't allowed to mop. They said that regulations say they use must germkiller on blood, not spread it.

When he had his face buried in the ball as he lay there, he was hating himself because he couldn't get control of his swiping-arm habit.
