I don’t know what your whole shtick is, it’s hard to tell through a screen, but if you’re being serious, then you’re just wrong. The flagrant Baldwin got was a basketball play where he tried swiping at the ball from below and ended up accidentally hitting brown in the face. Even the legends coach was confused as to why that was a flagrant. Hardly in danger of “being thrown out of the game.” Baldwin never lost his cool.

Your theory is a much bigger reach than the one where since it’s a showcase designed for NBA and International league personnel, the coach just gave guys without NBA contracts more run, and sat the guy who does have one and isn’t part of the parent club to begin with.

That's what happens when you don't read the whole thread.

That sentence is correct. Did you think that I said something different?

Sentence 1: Could be, I didn't look at the coach. That would be the typical reaction from a fouler's coach and teammates. Sentence 2: Brown was badly hurt, and no doubt the refs gave Baldwin some extra noticing the rest of the game, with thumbs ready. Is that controversial to you? Any refs are going to make sure he doesn't do it again on their watch. Sentence 3: Just as I didn't see the coach's face, you must not have watched the player's face as I did. As I reported, he looked worried when he started fouling again, and later when he got called for a foul soon after he escaped a foul for swiping his arm up again, he lay on the floor a few seconds with his face in the ball as if it were a pillow. I wouldn't call that losing his cool--he didn't remonstrate against the refs, he kept his dignity--so your sentence is correct.

I have no theory. I just reported the fact that Baldwin played steadily until he bloodied Shannon Brown, after which the coach put him sporadically and very little and yanked him when he fouled. Your theory is a stretch that right after the flagrant, the coach suddenly decided to "give guys without NBA contracts more run, and sat the guy who does have one, and isn’t part of the parent club to begin with"--and kept redeciding that whenever Baldwin fouled. As opposed to the conventional commonsense theory that he was yanking a player who was having a bloody night with a stiff uppercut fouls and a similar near-foul.

Damn, I left out the word "gave" above, making the sentence unintelligible. Only one word edited, I'm not changing it after you read it, I'll put the one word in boldface.

Swanigan is playing now. Started the second half on the bench. Wasn’t in foul trouble. Was playing well. So like with Baldwin, players without contracts are getting more opportunities.

I'm sure his coach is holding him out because he is afraid of him angering the refs, or some such nonsense like that...

Swanigan finished with 12 points (5-11) 14 rebounds 2 steals and a block in 25 minutes. Started at center and only had one turnover. I think he’s lost some weight since he’s been in the g league. He needs to lose more. He is what he is. If everything works out he’ll be a role player who crashes the boards and can hit a jumpshot. I don’t think he’ll ever be a post threat. He’s just not athletic or long enough to get his shot off against NBA bigs.

    Baldwin’s final line: 17 points (7-13) 4 rebounds 3 assists 3 steals.

He also clamped up Dwayne Bacon defensively, who came into the game averaging 29 points and outweighs Baldwin by at least 20 pounds. Bacon scored maybe one or two of his buckets against Baldwin. His defense and unselfishness will get him on the court. Bunch of these g leaguers think the way to get noticed is to score 40 points, and they get tunnel vision. Baldwin plays a team oriented game.

Great job by Olshey picking him up in the draft. At 26. In the first round. In 2017. That was a good pick.

Assuming NO uses Napier get some assets or move bloated salaries, could IV come in an play a backup PG role adequately right now?

I think so, but Napier is better than the average backup point, so it is a downgrade. Whatever though, I’m more interested in balancing out the roster, so Napier can go.

I guess we will always have that Luke Babbitt D League game thread to remember.
