"According to Durbin, the term is racist and offensive to African Americans because it is reminiscent of slaves being transported to the United States in chains." WTF? This guy can't even follow the ball. Or is this classic intentional obtuseness? http://dailycaller.com/2018/01/12/dick-durbin-chain-migration-is-a-racist-term-video/
"“I said to the president, ‘do you realize how painful that term is to so many people? African Americans believe they migrated to America in chains, and when you speak to chain migration it hurts them personally,'” Durbin explained. “He said, ‘oh that’s a good line.'” Ha! Classic Trump.
This sort of drivel from the Democrats, makes me think Trump is rather Saintly. No way could I sit with this sort of obtuse ignorance either way.
There is no honest debate anymore regarding if our President is a racist. You could argue the fine points on each individual incident if that’s an example of his racism or something else, but at the root of the question there is no ambiguity left. Trump is a racist.
You do know, you have not added a thing. This is a repeat of your well known position. The question is about "Chain". Is that now an unusable word as Durbin suggests?
I would say no, it’s usable but context always matters. When using it in reference to people of color you might not want to already be a well known racist like trump. It colors the usage.
I see. Well I guess they will have to go ahead and end chain migration with out regard to what Dems want. The can't follow the ball anyway. Go Trump!!
God forbid “chain migration”. It’s only the most Lilly way for peoples to fully assimilate into their new culture. It’s family, it’s integration, it’s humane, but.... fuck em!
Before 1916ish I did not have a single relative in America. Thankfully America brought in our huddled masses through Ellis Island. Now we are a family of doctors, ranchers, business people, lawyers, teachers and artists. We were the dregs of society, slipping out of the ghettos of Europe a few years ahead of when we would have all been put to death. I love America and am very proud to be an American. I am not proud of everything America does or everything America is standing for nowadays.
Apparently any term he uses he has to check with you because he's a racist. Even if that term isn't racist (it obviously isn't)
You don't see any difference in today's America and the past? You see a need to invite how many poor unskilled people here? Someone recently mentioned basic income in one of the threads here. In regards to automation......How about we put a hold on inviting people here we don't need until we're sure we can provide them what the American dream once was.
I truly believe the American Dream is more likely to be a reality if we continue to bring in people from all sorts of backgrounds who have persisted through all sorts of strife. It’s through struggle that hustle is spawned. It’s through poverty that ingenuity and upward aspirations are born. If we close off we become stagnant, wanting to save every morsel of what we have for ourselves instead of inventing new morsels for the future. Diversity of cultures, diversity of backgrounds and diversity of aspirations are what will drive the future and create the next America Dream.
He is racist regardless of the terms he chooses. He has proven it too many times. My assumption every time he talks is that he will say something racist, sexist or just plain stupid. I don’t need to think much about it anymore, I have made a conclusion.
