Holder leads No. 16 Arizona State to upset over No. 2 Kansas

Bobby Hurley is no stranger to college basketball lore. So when his Arizona State team travelled to Allen Fieldhouse to face Kansas on Sunday, the former Duke star knew what they were in for.

"No one really wins here," Hurley said. "You come in here, most of the time you're not leaving real happy."

Well, the Sun Devils sure did. Tra Holder scored 29 points on 8-for-16 shooting, and No. 16 Arizona State upset No. 2 Kansas 95-85 on Sunday to improve to 9-0.

Acuil has 31 points, 20 rebounds in No. 21 Baylor's win

To say it's been a big week for Jo Lual-Acuil is an understatement.

Baylor's 7-foot center hadn't seen his family from Sudan in more than four years but had his parents, an aunt and niece in Waco for his graduation and two games this week.

He gave them a show to remember Sunday.
Lual-Acuil had career highs with 31 points and 20 rebounds and No. 21 Baylor used a 21-0 first-half run to rout Savannah State 118-86.

No. 5 Arizona State rallies to beat Vanderbilt 76-64

Arizona State came out flat, missing shots, tossing balls into the stands, allowing open 3-pointers.

The No. 5 team in the country? The Sun Devils looked more like they should be unranked, not among college basketball's elite.

In a matter of minutes, it all changed. Arizona State forced turnovers, got out on the break and dropped in 3-pointers to keep the crowd on its feet.

Once the Sun Devils get rolling like this, there's no stopping them.

Tra Holder scored 25 points, Shannon Evans II added 15 and No. 5 Arizona State overcame a dismal start with a massive halftime-spanning run to beat Vanderbilt 76-64 on Sunday. The Sun Devils improved to 10-0 for the first time in their history.

No. 18 Arizona beats North Dakota State 83-53

Allonzo Trier banged knees with a North Dakota State player and immediately went down. The McKale Center fell silent as Arizona's leading scorer and an All-American candidate writhed on the floor, clutching his left knee.

Trier returned later in the second half with an ice bag on his knee, but his injury put a damper on what was an otherwise dominant performance.

Deandre Ayton scored 25 points and Trier added 15 before leaving with the injury, lifting No. 18 Arizona to an 83-53 rout over North Dakota State on Monday night.

No. 3 Arizona State beats Longwood 95-61 to stay undefeated

Jayson Gee has coached for 30 years, watching and playing against some of the best teams in country.

After No. 3 Arizona State turned a tight game into a 34-point blowout over his team, the Longwood coach was ready to put the Sun Devils up against any of them.

"This is going to sound crazy, but they've got a Final Four formula," Gee said after Arizona State blew past his Lancers 95-61 on Tuesday night. "You've got senior guards, you've got the ability to score, you can defend and you've got a low-post presence. They will be scary in the NCAA Tournament."

No. 18 Arizona pulls away late to beat UConn 73-58

Arizona clung to a two-point lead with just over 6 minutes left, the type of situation the Wildcats could not seem to handle early in the season.

The Wildcats have grown since an 0-3 trip to the Bahamas and instead of finding a way to lose, they raced off to their seventh straight win.

Arizona turned a close game in a lopsided victory behind its defense and a rash of 3-pointers, riding a late 14-1 run to a 73-58 victory over UConn on Thursday night.

No. 3 Arizona State rolls over Pacific 105-65

Guard U has become unguardable when it gets going.

Led by its dynamic guards, No. 3 Arizona State dominated from the start in a 104-65 victory over Pacific on Friday, extending the best start in school history.

Ayton, Trier lead No. 17 Wildcats past No. 3 Arizona State

Arizona State trailed by nine or more points in five games and came back each time while building a program-best 12-0 nonconference record and a No. 3 national ranking.

The surprising Sun Devils couldn't quite pull that off, though, in the noisy hostility of McKale Center.

Freshman sensation Deandre Ayton had 23 points and 19 rebounds, including a crucial tip-in with 11 seconds to go, and No. 17 Arizona held on to hand the Sun Devils their first loss of the season, 84-78 on Saturday night.

Colorado holds off No. 4 ASU 90-81 in OT

The pregame screening was motivation for the Colorado Buffaloes -- a clip of all the wins the program has posted over ranked teams through the years.

Time for a rewrite. Need to add another segment.

Namon Wright scored five of his 19 points in overtime, including a pair of game-sealing free throws at the end, and Colorado beat No. 4 Arizona State 90-81 on Thursday night.

Colorado springs another upset, beats No. 14 Arizona 80-77

McKinley Wright IV didn't even realize it was his coach's birthday Saturday. Still, he gave him the perfect gift -- another big win.

Wright scored 16 points to lead five Colorado players in double figures, and the Buffaloes held off No. 14 Arizona 80-77 to end the Wildcats' nine-game winning streak.

Evans scores 22, No. 4 Arizona State beats Utah 80-77

Mickey Mitchell had never hit two go-ahead free throws to win a game in his life before Sunday night. With two freebies dropping through the twine, the Arizona State sophomore averted what would have been a disastrous start to the Pac-12 season for the fourth-ranked team in the nation.

Shannon Evans scored 22 points, and Arizona State held on for a choppy 80-77 victory over Utah on Sunday night to end a two-game losing streak.

Trier leads late flurry to lift No. 17 Arizona past Beavers

Tough defense ignited enough offense for No. 17 Arizona to get the Wildcats a bounce-back victory over Oregon State on Thursday night.

Allonzo Trier scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half and the Wildcats, coming off a road loss at Colorado, pulled away from a sluggish, close game in the final 7 1/2 minutes to beat the Beavers 62-53.

Oregon upsets No. 11 Arizona State 76-72

Oregon has been through its share of disappointments this season after reaching the Final Four last spring, none bigger than a loss to rival Oregon State last week.

A road win over the No. 11 team in the country was just what the Ducks needed and it could get them back on the right track.

No. 17 Arizona uses late run to outlast Oregon 90-83

Arizona went on a big run, then had a rash of turnovers and defensive mistakes to let Oregon back in it. The Wildcats again went on a big run, again allowed the Ducks to rally.

A third time put Oregon away.

Allonzo Trier scored 25 points, Deandre Ayton added 24 and No. 17 Arizona used that late run to outlast Oregon 90-83 on Saturday.

No. 14 Arizona overcomes slow start, runs past Cal 79-58

Some games, Sean Miller notices an anxiety with his Arizona team immediately after tipoff.

He sure saw that at California on Wednesday night, when the Wildcats needed a firm talk about taking care of the ball.

Deandre Ayton had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 14 Arizona overcame a slow, sloppy start by warming up from long range against a high zone to beat Cal 79-58.

Travis, Da Silva lead Stanford past No. 16 Arizona St. 86-77

Stanford coach Jarod Haase went to Plan C late in the game -- and that involved Oscar Da Silva guarding the perimeter.

The freshman forward gave his coach something extra.

Da Silva scored eight of his 14 points in the final four minutes and Stanford held on to beat No. 16 Arizona State 86-77 on Wednesday night.

No. 14 Arizona rallies for 73-71 win at Stanford

Stanford stormed ahead with 11 straight points midway through the second half, and No. 14 Arizona powered right back with 11 of their own, a run capped by Allonzo Trier's tying 3-pointer.

So with the Cardinal leading by one in the final minute, it wasn't too hard to believe the Wildcats would rally again.

Rawle Alkins made a go-ahead layup with 38 seconds remaining, and Arizona earned a 73-71 comeback win Saturday at Stanford for their 16th straight victory against the Cardinal.
