Your argument is valid and flawed, Roberson has incredible value to OKC because he covers a massive weakness on one end and he doesn't need to do much on offense when you gave Melo, PG and Westbrook.

However, should he develop as a three point threat ala Bowen OKC could easily become a legit title contender the same way the Spurs did with Bowens transformation.

Because of cj's extension there would have been no cap space the year after, it was use it or lose it

False. You wait on CJ extension as well. No need to extend him that summer. Could've waited one more year with a small cap hold

Really, you let a player like cj go into ufa status and risk losing him?

Woulda been RFA. We weren't going to lose him.

    He advocated waiting to 2017

Exactly. CJ would have been a RFA, but we extend him a year earlier than we needed to

So you risk that he takes the 1 year qualifying offer?

He would've been offered max in RFA. Zero chance he takes the QO.

Yep. How many players have ever taken the QO? Not many.
It's the same thing Portland did with Nurk last summer. Are you really worried that he'll take the QO?

Of course you do, you do not think cj would have got the max from other teams as a ufa? Let's say the team does not offer him the extension, do not get turner, who knows if they do the Nurk trade and finish the year with 38 wins and out of the playoffs, you do not think cj thinks about being free and going to NY where his girlfriend is?

I mean the blazers did not value him enough to extend him, the team is meh and he could be the lead guard in the media capital of the world.

There is always risk, and extending cj was as close to a risk free decision as there was in 2016. Heck, the very premise of your suggestion that there would be less competition in 2017 was unknown based on cap projections. It is easy to see things in hindsight, but the turner signing made sense.

The Crabbe match and myle, these were questionable

The Turner signing was roundly panned as deplorable from the get go, and many in here took issue with CJ's extension at the time as well. These are not solely hindsight concerns--these were fully foreseeable.

    Agreed.
Good teams can look into the future and see what is likely to happen and position themselves to take advantage of it.
Many of the fans here can do that, but the same can't be said for NO....

If this is the case, I wonder why many of the armchair GM's on this forum haven't took NO's job yet.
