No. 21 North Carolina beats No. 9 Duke 82-78 in rivalry game

North Carolina went from looking a step slow and struggling to keep Duke's touted freshmen off the boards to roaring out of halftime with an aggressive edge on the way to a rousing win.

Maybe the 21st-ranked Tar Heels just needed their fiercest rival to bring out something that had been missing for weeks.

Joel Berry II scored 21 points and UNC hung on late to beat the ninth-ranked Blue Devils 82-78 on Thursday night, capping an emotional performance that included a comeback from a dozen down in the first half.

Kerry Blackshear's putback lifts Virginia Tech past No. 2 Virginia in OT

Kerry Blackshear Jr. turned a forgettable night into a most memorable one, and he and his Virginia Tech teammates likely kept No. 2 Virginia from ascending to No. 1 for the first time since 1983 with a 61-60 overtime victory on Saturday night.

Maye helps No. 21 North Carolina beat rival NC State 96-89

The shots kept falling. The basket felt huge. And Luke Mayewas so good that he nearly single-handedly carried No. 21 North Carolina's second-half offense to a road rivalry win.

Maye scored 27 of his career-high 33 points after halftime to help the Tar Heels beat North Carolina State 96-89 on Saturday, getting even for last month's home loss to the Wolfpack.

BC rallies late to topple No. 25 Miami 72-70

Miami coach Jim Larranaga never made it out of the locker room. The rest of the No. 25 Hurricanes shut things down with about six minutes to go.

With Larranaga a late scratch due to illness, the Hurricanes went scoreless for the final 6:17 on Saturday as Boston College rallied from a seven-point deficit to win 72-70.

No. 14 North Carolina pulls away late, tops Notre Dame 83-66

North Carolina beat its two biggest rivals, then pulled away late to beat Notre Dame to cap a demanding stretch.

The 14th-ranked Tar Heels are tired. They also might have found a groove.

Theo Pinson scored 14 of his 16 points after halftime to go with 10 rebounds, helping UNC pull away late to beat Notre Dame 83-66 on Monday night for its third win in five days.

Allen, No. 12 Duke beat Virginia Tech 74-52 without Bagley

Grayson Allen has thrived for No. 12 Duke in two games with Atlantic Coast Conference-leading scorer and rebounder Marvin Bagley IIIsidelined with a knee injury.

Perhaps the Blue Devils have found a couple of new twists to implement once Bagley returns.

Allen scored 25 points and matched a career high with seven 3-pointers, helping No. 12 Duke beat Virginia Tech 74-52 on Wednesday night.

No. 14 North Carolina tops Louisville 93-76

North Carolina got the fast start it sought against Louisville and the No. 14 Tar Heels displayed that energy in numerous areas, giving coach Roy Williams a lot to like -- for the most part.

Joel Berry scored 23 points, Luke Maye had 19 with 13 rebounds and North Carolina dominated the boards and second-chance points to beat the Cardinals 93-76 Saturday night for its fifth consecutive victory.

Trent leads No. 12 Duke to 66-57 win over No. 11 Clemson

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has gotten more than he's expected out of the Blue Devils the past couple of weeks with Marvin Bagley III out. And he's certain it will pay dividends down the stretch once Duke's leading scorer and rebounder returns.

Gary Trent Jr. hit three foul shots with 1:31 left to put No. 12 Duke ahead for good, and the Blue Devils won their third straight with Bagley on the sidelines, 66-57 over 11th-ranked Clemson on Sunday.

Allen scores 28, No. 5 Duke routs Louisville 82-56

Grayson Allen took care of the scoring for No. 5 Duke. Everyone pitched in at the other end of the floor.

A 2/3 zone -- of all things -- has the Blue Devils playing perhaps their best defense of the season.

Allen scored 28 points and Duke held Louisville to a season-low point total in an 82-56 rout Wednesday night.

Top-ranked Virginia accomplished its first goal of the season. The next ones on the list will only get more difficult.

Ty Jerome scored 18 points and the Cavaliers held off depleted Georgia Tech 65-54 on Wednesday night, clinching at least a share of the regular season title and the top seed next month in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.

Hokies continue winning ways, beat No. 15 Clemson 65-58

Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams admitted that he and his team only focus on increments of 24 hours.

"Just be consumed with today," he said.

That approach certainly has been working.

Justin Robinson and Kerry Blackshear Jr. scored 14 points each to lift the Hokies to a 65-58 victory over No. 15 Clemson on Wednesday night.

DeVoe's 25 leads No. 15 Clemson to 75-67 win over Ga Tech

Clemson coach Brad Brownell drew up the first play of Saturday's game to get an open 3-pointer for Gabe DeVoe, partly as a way to thank the senior for four good years.

It also served as a catalyst for the 15th-ranked Tigers as they ended a three-game losing streak.

DeVoe scored 25 points, making four of his seven 3-pointers, to lead Clemson (21-7, 10-6 Atlantic Coast) to a 75-67 win over Georgia Tech.
