Led by Trier, Ayton, No. 11 Arizona avenges lone Pac-12 loss

Don't think "Hack-an-Ayton" is a good strategy against Arizona's fantastic freshman.

Even though he was just coming off a bout of strep throat that caused him to miss some practice time, Deandre Ayton was 12 for 12 at the line, scoring 20 points to help the No. 11 Wildcats beat Colorado 80-71 on Thursday night, avenging their only Pac-12 loss of the season.

Utah knocks off No. 11 Arizona State 80-77 in overtime

Larry Krystkowiak saw Sedrick Barefield hesitate and tried to call a timeout. The Utah junior guard thought he was yelling "Go!" so he pushed the ball up the court and pulled up for a 3-pointer.

"It's a good thing they were on the other side of the court and don't listen to their coach," Krystkowiak said.

    That's for sure.

Barefield hit the tying 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left in regulation and scored 17 points, helping Utah knock off No. 21 Arizona State 80-77 in overtime Thursday night.

When Tra Holder and Shannon Evans are both rolling, Arizona State looks like the team that shot off to a 12-0 start this season.

That hasn't happened much in Pac-12 play, but the two senior guards found that elusive groove in the second half Saturday and the rest of the No. 21 Sun Devils joined in for an 80-66 victory over Colorado.

Washington holds on late to beat No. 25 Arizona St 68-64

Another chance for Washington to prove its validity was also another moment where the flaws of No. 25 Arizona State were shown.

Perhaps it time the Huskies started to get a bit of the recognition as the surprise of the Pac-12.

Noah Dickerson scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, David Crisp had three key baskets in the final five minutes, and Washington knocked off No. 25 Arizona State 68-64 on Thursday night.

Washington's Dominic Green nets 3-pointer at buzzer to drop Arizona

As the pile of celebrating bodies grew, Washington's Dominic Greenstarted to get uneasy. He'd never been in the situation of celebrating a game-winning basket like this, let alone where he was the one hitting the shot.

"I was really nervous," Green said. "Just because something like that had never happened, so it gave me the butterflies."

Evans leads No. 25 Arizona State over Washington St. 88-78

Bobby Hurley of No. 25 Arizona State was pleased with the resiliency his team showed against Washington State.

The Sun Devils fell behind several times in a back-and-forth game, but kept their composure at the end when the Cougars were losing theirs.

Shannon Evans II scored 23 points and Romello White added 21 as Arizona State won 88-78 on Sunday.

UCLA shoots past No. 13 Arizona 82-74

UCLA pushed around the Arizona Wildcats on their home court, swarming on defense and attacking on offense.

A win like this, against a ranked team in one of college basketball's toughest venues, could push the Bruins off the NCAA Tournament bubble.

Aaron Holiday scored 17 points, Gyorgy Golomon added a career-high 16 and UCLA shot its way past No. 13 Arizona, 82-74 on Thursday night.

No. 17 Arizona holds off No. 25 Arizona State for 77-70 win

Arizona's players left the court after warm-ups to a profane chant from Arizona State's students. Once the game started, the action got so intense a Wildcats' male cheerleader was escorted out by security.

No question, the rivalry in the desert has heated up.

One aspect remains the same: Arizona finding a way to win.

Deandre Ayton had 25 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 17 Arizona used a late run to hold off No. 25 Arizona State 77-70 on Thursday night to sweep the season series.

No. 14 Arizona beats Oregon State 75-65 in OT

Headed to the line with Arizona down two points late in the game, Rawle Alkins thought about his mechanics, as he'd uncharacteristically missed half his free throws on the night.

"Those were probably the biggest free throws of my life," Alkins said. "I hit the first one, and I knew the next one was going in."

Deandre Ayton had 19 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, and No. 14 Arizona, minus one of its star players, beat Oregon State 75-65 on Thursday

Troubled Arizona loses 98-93 to Oregon

Lorenzo Romar has no idea how long he'll be in charge at Arizona.

The 14th-ranked Wildcats played without embattled coach Sean Miller and lost 98-93 to Oregon in overtime Saturday night, ending a difficult day for the troubled program. Romar, the team's associate head coach, filled in for Miller but wasn't sure what's next.

Miller returns, Arizona clinches tie for Pac-12 title

Sean Miller was back on the job, Allonzo Trier was back on the court and Arizona earned at least a share of another Pac-12 championship.

All accomplished in an emotionally charged end to a highly unusual day in Tucson.

Dusan Ristic scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half and No. 19 Arizona beat Stanford 75-67 on Thursday night.

No. 19 Arizona pulls away late to beat Cal 66-54

Arizona coach Sean Miller grabbed the microphone to address the McKale Center when, just for a brief second, his voice broke.

"It's been a tough week," the usually-fiery coach said.

It could not have ended any better: With Miller cutting down the nets as Pac-12 champion for the fifth time in six seasons.

A week that started with Miller's job in jeopardy ended in joy Saturday night with a Pac-12 clinching 66-54 victory over California.

No. 15 Arizona surges past Colorado 83-67 at Pac-12 tourney

Arizona was not particularly crisp on offense and big man Deandre Ayton missed shots that normally fall for him.

None of it slowed the Wildcats on their way to the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals.

Scrappy and suffocating on defense, No. 15 Arizona rolled over Colorado 83-67 on Thursday in the Pac-12 quarterfinals.

No. 15 Arizona beats UCLA 78-67 to reach Pac-12 title game

Deandre Ayton was admittedly nervous in his first Pac-12 tournament game, awed by the size of the arena and the spotlight.

More comfortable and familiar with his surroundings, the Bahamian big man dominated his second go-round, sending the Wildcats into the title game for the second straight season.

Ayton scored seven of his 32 points in overtime and grabbed 14 rebounds, lifting No. 15 Arizona to a 78-67 victory over UCLA in the Pac-12 Tournament semifinals on Friday night.

No. 15 Arizona beats USC 75-61 to defend Pac-12 title

Deandre Ayton dribbled through the sea of red-and-white confetti, bobbing and weaving past cheerleaders and fans. The Arizona big man came upon a security guard, dropped a spin move that left both smiling and headed to the locker room.

Ayton's night at the Pac-12 championship was just as smooth a ride

Ayton had 32 points and 18 rebounds in one of the most dominating performances in Pac-12 Tournament history, leading No. 15 Arizona to its second straight title with a 75-61 victory over Southern California on Saturday night.

Pritchard helps No. 14 Oregon beat Portland State 84-57

Oregon's first game drew mixed reviews from coach Dana Altman.

The performances by returning starters Payton Pritchard and Paul White were right on cue, but the rest of the Ducks showed some rough spots that need work, especially under the boards.

Pritchard scored 22 points while White added 15 and No. 14 Oregon opened its season by routing Portland State 84-57 victory Tuesday night.
