Good article by Quick. It's still a bad contract, but good article. http://www.nbcsports.com/northwest/...rs-have-no-room-evan-turners-world-these-days
I have no pity for someone getting paid 17 mil a year to play basketball. He talks a lot of shit on social media and is extremely mediocre on the court, that’s going to come with some negativity from fans. It’s not his fault he was given his contract, that’s on Neil, but his shitty attitude is all on him. He seems like the type of guy that will talk negatively about Portland after his departure.
ET is a good guy, and a great locker room guy, but this confirms he's an idiot. Dumb Rednecks can't afford season tickets in the 3rd row. He most certainly did not earn his "bread." His contract is a boat anchor that is hurting the team from getting better. He doesn't seem to understand/care about that.
I’ve never understood the bitching about a player because of the amount of money he’s making. It seems like two separate issues to me. Whether a guy is making a minimum or maximum contract or something in between, that’s only relevant to a GM’s need to balance the cap and judge market values. If he overpays, how is that on the player? I’ve never seen a contract make a bucket or grab a rebound. I try to look at what a player is doing on the court throughout the season. ET has contributed a lot during this streak. That’s enough for me.
He was just Lucky to be a fucking free agent in 2016, if he Really thinks he's worth 70 Million he is stupid af
Considering we weren't going attract anybody in 2016, having Turner play for us is better than not having him. And I agree with him, his money is his business. He earned it. Not his fault there is a salary cap. I think having both Turner/Harkless allow us to rachet up the defensive pressure that has been crucial for the Blazers during this winning streak. Let's hope it continues.
What shitty attitude? Everything in that article contradicts “shitty attitude.” As long as he’s good in the locker room I couldn’t care less if he wanted to tell a couple deserving fans to fuck off. As for on the court, he’s been our most consistent perimeter defender since he’s been here. His contract is whatever to me, I’m not the one paying him.
ET and Chief are huge reasons we're a top defensive team....I like both of those guys...they'll win you games
I call responding to fans and media personalities who are deservedly scrutinizing his shitty contract by telling them to kiss his ass a pretty shitty attitude. The fan deserved what we he got, but his entire persona is arrogant to me. That and seeing him tell people on social media that he’s fucked their mom or telling them to suck his dick helped form my opinion. I don’t knock him for getting paid what he is, like I said that’s not on him, but there’s plenty of cases of people responding to very similar situations with much more class.
So if you don’t knock him for what he’s getting paid, why are you justifying people scrutinizing him for his contract? Neil is the only one that should be getting shit. He paid for Evan Turner, and got...Evan Turner.
Because I don’t think most fans or media personalities are scrutinizing HIM for his contract they’re just talking him being way overpaid, which is Neil’s fault, and also true. He just takes it as people scrutinizing him. Except for that fan at the game, like I said he deserved what he got.
I'm one of those who feels it's perfectly reasonable to be critical of a contract. When the pie is limited in size, anyone greedy enough to take the biggest slice possible, better produce at a level worthy of it. Otherwise, there's not enough pie for everyone else and the bakery doesn't make the playoffs of the Great British Baking Show.
Olshey got what he paid for. If he was expecting more, that’s on him, not Turner. Players don’t change who they are at 28.
It's certainly Olshey's fault, but Turner is responsible for being overpaid or under-performing, however you want to look at it. I believe a player should not accept significantly more than they're worth. It never works out well for anyone/anything, other than their bank account. It ruins their reputation and their enjoyment of the game, the city, etc.
Like most of you, I don't blame ET for his contract, nor do I blame him for taking it. That's on Neil, 100%. But I do hold him accountable for his attitude on Social Media. The guy is a major douchebag, and it's well documented. The ONLY professional athlete of ANY sport that I have ever personally seen making remarks about cumshots on other people's mothers and sisters faces on social media.....is Evan Turner. I don't see that from Dame. Or Moe. Or Nurk. Or even Aminu....and Chief has had his moment of immaturity in regards to comments he made about gay people years ago when he was 19. No. Only from Evan Turner have I ever seen that kind of blatant disrespect and disgusting remark. It's one thing to read a comment from some nobody somewhere.....it's another when you are representing a professional basketball team that many people from all walks of life watch, AND getting paid like it. It matters not one fucking bit if the person deserved it or not, because like so many other positions in real life, you are expected to hold yourself to a higher standard. The guy is a total moron and a douche to boot. Eventually, the team is going to have to judge for themselves if the performance on the court and social media is worth keeping him. I'm guessing that it won't be.
I think it is hilarious when he gets all nasty on social media. Most athletes act like politicians, trying to toe the line and give the politically correct sterile remark to everything. I think it's fucking funny as hell.
Not really, to me at least. Because I see the president as someone who really should speak in the interest of all Americans. I see a basketball player as an entertainer. And if they make me laugh, then great. I don't want to get into a political debate as I know the two of us get along much better when politics aren't involved. I just find it interesting that you like when Donald Trump speaks like a crazy man and talks shit to everyone else, but don't like when a basketball player does it. I'm not seeing why one is ok for you, and not only ok, but something to be revered, and the other is a douche. The double standard is incredibly strong here, and I'm not going to bring race into, but why is the white guy who "speaks what's on his mind" a rally cry, and the black man doing the same thing makes Evan a terrible douche?
And feel free to quote this and start a thread in OT. I don't want to muck up the board of a badass team on a 9 game win streak with this bullshit. So, if you want to debate this with me, send this subject to OT. Love you man. Go Blazers.
