    MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Luca Congi provided the offense and thedefense did the rest, making Kent Austin's coaching debut withthe Saskatchewan Roughriders a successful one.

    Congi kicked three field goals and the defense allowed only asingle touchdown as the Roughriders posted a 16-7 victory overthe Montreal Alouettes in the season opener for both teamsFriday.

    With Saskatchewan (1-0) trailing, 2-0, after one quarter, Congiconverted kicks of 45 and 37 yards in the second and another45-yarder in the third to give the Roughriders a 9-2 advantage.Kerry Joseph increased the lead at 9:06 of the quarter, tossinga 34-yard pass to Henri Childs for the only touchdown of thegame.

    Joseph went 16-of-30 for 230 yards, while Childs gained 34 yardson the ground and 64 receiving.

    Ben Cahoon made 11 catches for 96 yards for Montreal (0-1),which registered three safeties in losing its first opener since1996.
