So you are saying his right foot is the pivot foot before the step to the side.

Hi. As we were discussing over on the Clutchfans forum, the NBA rule book says one condition for "end of dribble" is the ball is at rest under the player's control. The point I was trying to make there, which met some resistance, is that what that actually means is not fully defined -- it is open to interpretation. I think when @dviss1 talks about "possession of the ball" he is saying, essentially, the ball is in the player's hand(s) under his control. That's one way to read "ball is at rest", IMO. Or one can go with a much more forgiving (for the offensive player) interpretation of "ball is at rest", in line with the lax carry rules.

As for people who say that if CJ's move was a travel, then Harden's is as well -- I'm not disputing that. I'm more interested in how the league might change the rules or add "points of emphasis" in the future to potentially disallow this maneuver. I'm sure players like CJ and Harden who constantly work at their craft in the offseason will adjust to whatever the league decides.

Good response. I read and responded to your thread on clutchfans. I was hoping for a more definitive ruling here, and I'm not sure I got it. If anything, it seems like elite offensive players often operate in the gray scale between legal and illegal. And that makes sense. Try to gain any advantage that you can, while you can.
What's your name on clutch? Your board has some douches, like any other. But there are some good people there as well. I think Mathrock is my personal favorite.

Soon as CJ lifts the foot between the block and the hash mark. It becomes a travel.
That's if you want to give a grey area and let offensive players get the benefit of the doubt.

Personally I'd call him for travel before that.

Are you a Blazer fan? If not, you're in the wrong forum. You're supposed to be blind to that.
