I have this weird feeling that we will be helping out the Bucks and it would kind of make sense for letting Napier and Davis go. The Bucks are now hard capped after paying Ilyasova more than the tax-MLE and have some contracts that they really need to get off their books if they want to keep Jabari Parker. There are several combinations of deals that would work with the TPE(s). Brogdon along with either Henson (my favorite combo), Dellavedova, or Snell all work with the bigger TPE. Thon Maker and Dellavedova seems the most likely if we were just using the big TPE. This gives us an NBA champion experienced backup PG (not saying he is good but would fit what Olshey said) and a young center that could take the Davis role and who Olshey was rumored to want before the draft two years ago.
If the rumors of philly going after Kawhi and LBJ are true they will need to shed salary, would they send Covington to us for TPE and a lottery protected 1st?
I like Brogdon. He excelled in Tony Bennett's system at Virginia where players are expected to give full effort on defense.
This is the kind of situation I think Olshey is praying while also preparing for. He will need a bailout or to play clean up in the aftermath of some of these potentially bigger moves.
Have you looked at their situation? When they signed Ilyasova they are hard capped with only about $16 million left. That means if Parker signs for $16 million somewhere they would be unable to match. Even if he signs for a little less it would be tough for them to match and stay under the apron. Maker hasn't been that good and it may be worth giving up one of their young guys to shed a bad contract to keep them out of the tax and not have to worry about filling out their roster.
I'd love to know what kind of offers have been out there for the big TPE and if there are players that Olshey knows he can use it on and is just waiting to see if something else better comes along first before deciding if taking on any of those players is worth it.
We are at roughly $130 million in salary (depending on the amount of Nurk's 1st year it could be slightly more or slightly less). The apron is $129.817 million. At the conclusion of the sign and trade we'd have to be below that $129.817 number which makes using the TPE for it impossible. So in order to do a sign and trade the Bucks would have to take back at least the difference in salary between the $130 we are at and the apron line. For example Evan Turner for Parker at like $16 million a year would probably work but we'd lose the TPE's and couldn't sign anyone for even the minimum the rest of the year (which might not be a big deal if we have 15 guys anyway unless there are injuries). The problem is that the Bucks are also hard capped so they couldn't do it, nor would they likely want any package we'd send them more than just keeping Parker.
It is interesting that Melo just got cut so that his team could save A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS IN ONE YEAR.
So Tobias Harris has been rumored in trades all off-season. The Clippers have Harrel, who's extremely underrated, and just signed a combo forward in Mike Scott. I still feel like there's a chance Harris could be on his way out. They likely don't want extra long term salary, so itll be tough. Theyre also facing the tax if the rresign Harrell. BKN needs another PF, and seems to love our players, and has cap space to accept Aminu. LAC Gets: Swanigan (TPE), Turner, 2019 POR 1st, $21.6M TPE (D.G.) POR Gets: Harris, Gallinari BKN Gets: Aminu, Layman, Papagiannis LAC takes Swanigan with its Liggins TPE, so that Harris matches Turner and Gallinari is extra outgoing salary and creates a $21.6M TPE (I think thats gow it would work?). They could use this TPE for Kawhi in any scenario in the next year. If Gallinari has a bounce back year, we get two top notch combo-forwards. Hes always hurt though, but we'd still be better off... Lillard (36) / McCollum (12) McCollum (23) / Curry (25) Harkless (28) / Gallinari (20) Harris (33) / Gallinari (7) / Collins (5) Nurkic (30) / Collins (18) Or without Gallinari: Lillard (36) / McCollum (12) McCollum (23) / Curry (25) Harkless (30) / Trent (15) / Curry (3) Harris (35) / Collins (8) / Harkless (3) Nurkic (30) / Collins (18)
