CJ + Collins + Turner + future picks for Kawhi + Aldridge Who says no? A healthy Dame/Kawhi/Aldridge/Nurk squad has an open championship window immediately. We'd have to deal with the nonsense that comes with Leonard's FA next year.
SA says no: They have no interest in Turner They give up the best 2 players in the deal The future picks would be low value
Take out ET and replace with Aminu + Moe. Add our scrubs like Swanigan/Layman et al. That enough to rope em in? When they look at the prospect of losing Kawhi for nothing, I think getting CJ/Collins/picks is better. And they'd clear a bunch of salary for 2019 with Aldridge gone.
I think that’s overstated. The Spurs risk losing Kawhi for nothing next summer and LA is getting really long in the tooth. CJ’s and Collins’s upside could appeal to them if they go all in on a rebuild. I think they would extract a first round pick from the Blazers, however. To me, the problem with the deal is on the Blazers’ side. What are the odds Kawhi will re-sign here, especially if he’s got LA as a teammate? Those two aren’t exactly bosom buddies, are they?
I thought part of Kawhi's issue is that he didn't like playing with Aldridge? Just to give you some reference, they allegedly asked LA for Kuzma, Hart, 2 1st round picks, and a 3rd team to take Ball and give them something else good. From Philly they were asking for Fultz, Saric, Covington, and 3 1st round picks. Now I know they have to ask for a ton initially but why would they want to give up Aldridge too for less than they could get for just Kawhi?
Kawhi will end up in Philly. Brown & Pop are buds and no way SA wants to send him to the west. POP will get what he wants from Philly. Smart to play the waiting game and put LA in a predictament.
Okay, so this makes me feel better about signing up for the Wade Baldwin 4 bandwagon (from the CBA FAQ page) :
WBIV didn't finish the year on a two-way contract so that doesn't apply. I suggest reading Testers posts about how we can offer almost $9 million in the thread that was worried about Baldwin leaving.
Even if Baldwin has a very good year, it sure seems like $9 million should be enough. I like him a lot for our team, but he's no all star.
No, because he's no longer a two-way player. His contract was already converted to a standard minimum deal.
Standard 2-year minimum deal. The '17-'18 season & then '18-'19 season. He'll be an UFA next summer, but we will have his early bird rights.
